LORA JANE CAMPBELL
Lora Jane Campbell, 80, Dresden, died Tuesday, March 21 at Bethesda Hospital, Zanesville.
Born Feb. 14, 1920, Carbon Hill, daughter of the late Hedley and Anna Mitchell Lowes, she was the widow of Clyde C. Campbell, who died Jan. 15, 1998.
Her joys in life were her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to write letters to all of her family and friends. A 1938 Carbon Hill High School graduate, she was a member of First United Methodist Church of Nelsonville and Queen Esther Sunday School Class of the church.
Surviving are two sons, Clyde H. (Diane) Campbell and Gary K. (Karen) Campbell, both of Nelsonville; a daughter, Mrs. Chuck (Margie "Susie") Anderson of Dresden; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by seven brothers, Wilbert and Garland Hawk, Hedley, Louis, Reuben and Johnnie Lowes and Pierce Icenhour; and three sisters, Mabel and Dorothy Lowes and Catherine McGall.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Nelsonville, with the Rev. Gary Carlson officiating.
Burial will be in Carbon Hill cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 Friday at Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

TERRY L. CHALFANT
Terry L. Chalfant, 52, Jacksonville, died Saturday, March 4 at his residence.
Born Feb. 6, 1948, Athens County, son of Florence Kidd Chalfant of Jacksonville and the late Ernest Chalfant, he was married
to Teresa Rose Lanning Chalfant, who survives.
Graveside memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Taylor Ridge cemetery, Glouster.
No calling hours will be observed.

VIOLA C. GRUBB
Viola C. Grubb, 84, formerly of Murray City, died Sunday, March 19 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
Born Dec. 30, 1915, Murray City, daughter of the late Bert and Kate Anders, she was the widow of Leslie Grubb, who died April 1985.
Surviving are a son, Tom (Barbara) Grubb of Hilliard; a granddaughter, Lezlie Grubb of Hilliard; a brother, Robert (Betty) Anders; a special niece, Mrs. Pete (Ruth) Vasko; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude, and two brothers, Gilbert and Andy.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Fairview cemetery, Rockbridge.
No calling hours will be observed.

NELLIE HAZEL HAGAN
Nellie Hazel Hagan, 91, Logan, died Tuesday, March 21 at Logan Health Care Center.
Born Nov. 3, 1908, Starr, daughter of the late Wilmer and Victoria McGatha Hardesty, she was the widow of Hovie Hagen, who died Oct. 31, 1987.
She was a member of Christian Prayer Chapel.
Surviving are two sons, Eugene Hagan Sr. of Lancaster and Russell (Gertrude) Hagan of Columbus; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two sons, James B. and Robert Hagan; a daughter, Gertrude Hagan; and two brothers, Sylvester "Vess" and Harry R. Hardesty; and two sisters, Helen Carpenter and Ruth Loomis.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Betty Brooks officiating.
Burial will be in New Plymouth cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 Friday at the funeral home.
FLOSSIE M. SWACKHAMMER
Flossie M. Swackhammer, 91, Somerset, died Tuesday, March 21 at Somerset Center.
Born Jan. 18, 1909, Hocking County, daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Elick Edwards, she was the widow of Clayton I. Swackhammer, who died Jan. 29, 1975.
She was a member of Bremen Bible Holiness Church. She was a loving mother and homemaker.
Surviving are a daughter, Darlene Swackhammer of Somerset; three sons, Kenneth W. (Thelma) Swackhammer of Lancaster, Darrell E. (Joan) Swackhammer of Smyrna, Del., and Doyne H. (Betty) Swackhammer of Somerset; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Karshner of Rockbridge and Donna Tisdale of Laurelville; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Earl J. Swackhammer, who died in 1965; three sisters, Cecilene Bennett, Thelma Kerns and Audrey Reid; and two brothers, Harold and Norman Edwards.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Bremen Bible Holiness Church with the Revs. David Neville and Marvin Shipman officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.

WILLIAM R. WITHEM
William R. Withem, 76, Murray City, died Wednesday, March 22 at his residence.
Born April 10, 1923, Hocking County, son of the late William R. and Dorabelle Beougher Withem, he was the widower of Opal Withem, who died in 1996.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville.
Burial will be in Carbon Hill cemetery.

WARREN W. GUMBRELL
Warren W. Gumbrell, 71, McArthur, died Friday, March 24 at Twin Maples Nursing Home, McArthur.
Born July 21, 1928, Springfield, Ill., he was an oil well driller.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Mark (April) Duke of Logan; a granddaughter, Kelsi Lowther of Logan; and one sister.
Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur.
No funeral services are planned. Cremation will follow at a later date.
SARAH J. HILES
Sarah J. Hiles, Athens, died Thursday, March 23 at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens.
Born May 17, 1912, Athens, daughter of the late James and Anna Hitchings Pitts, she was the widow of Charles Leonard Hiles, who died Jan. 31, 1980.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with Pastor Margaret Ward officiating.
Interment will be in Hilltop cemetery, Millfield.

GEORGE B. HUFFER
George B. Huffer, Lancaster, died Thursday, March 23 at Mount Carmel West Hospital.
Born March 13, Fairfield County, son of the late Kirby and Bertha Huffer, he was married
for 54 years to Novella Brown Huffer, who survives.
A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of American Legion and Maple Street United Methodist Church. He retired from Essex Wire.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Gary (Sandra) Snider of Logan, Mrs. Warren (Twila) Mast of Lancaster and Gayla Cade of Lancaster; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a niece; a nephew; and several cousins.
He also was preceded in death by a stepmother, Mary Huffer; a granddaughter, Lindsay Cade; and a brother, Melvin Huffer.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home, Lancaster, with the Rev. Don Meadows officiating.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
Military graveside services will be conducted by Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 Sunday at the funeral home.

OLIVER JAAKOLA
Oliver S. Jaakola, 84, Logan, died Tuesday, March 21 at Arcadia Acres Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 13, 1915, Comptche, Calif., son of the late Isaac and Mary Peterson Jaakola, he was the widower of his second wife, Pauline Smart Jaakola, who died in 1983.
He was retired from the timber business in northern California and Oregon, where he had worked for 40 years.
He was a decorated World War II veteran, serving in the Navy and seeing action in the Philippines. During his time on the USS Coghlan (DD606), he also earned eight battle stars. He was a member of American Legion Post 78 and the USS Coghlan Association.
He had made his home for the past eight years at Arcadia Acres Nursing Home and had been cared for by many loving staff and caregivers.
Surviving are a son, George O. Baker of Aurora, Colo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Ed and Jane Green of Logan; a grandson, Matthew A. Green of Logan; a half brother, Carl Peterson of Comptche, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services will be held at New Fairview Memorial Gardens, Rockbridge, with the Rev. Rick Snyder officiating.
Military graveside services will be conducted by Hocking County Combined Veterans Organizations.
The family suggests contributions be made to the charity one one's choice.
DON MEYER
Don F. Meyer, 71, Lancaster, formerly of Logan, died Thursday, March 23 at Rockmill Rehabilitation Center, Lancaster.
Born Oct. 12, 1928, Hocking County, he was the son of the late Charles and Emily Woltz Meyer.
He was a retired supervisor for Dupont.
Surviving are a son, Charles E. (Beth) Meyer of Lancaster; five daughters, Mrs. Harry (Mary Catherine) Boyer and Mrs. Steve (Karen) Stump, both of Lancaster, Sharon Caton and special friend, Jeff, of Carroll, Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Barnhart of Albany and Mrs. Mike (Susan E.) Thimmes of New Lexington; 19 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; a brother, Creighton Meyer of Rockbridge; and two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Waveline) Ellinger and Shirley Brooks, both of Logan.
He also was preceded in death by a son, John M. Meyer, and two brothers, Melvin and Kenneth Meyer.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday at his residence on 1068 Jennifer Lane in Lancaster.
Per Mr. Meyer's request he has been cremated.
