CLARENCE WILLIAM WOOD
Clarence W. (Bill) Wood, 83, Nelsonville, died Saturrday, April 29 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 1, 1916, Hocking County, son of the late Perry Wood and Blanche Bumgardner Wood, he was the widower of Louise P. Tucker Wood, who died April 9, 1998.
He was retired from DCSC in Columbus. He was a member of Philidorian Lodge #157 F and AM, Athens Chapter #39, R.A.M., Athens Council #15, Royal and Select Masons, and Athens Commandry #15.
Surviving are four sons, John (Linda) Wood of Pickerington, James E. Wood of Nelsonville, Don P. (Kay) Wood of Athens and Thomas J. (Phyllis) Wood of Indiana; one daughter, Mrs. Gail (Anita) Fouty of Nelsonville; two brothers, John L. Bumgardner of Logan and Lester Holcomb of Connecticut; and one sister, Ines (Sis) Reider of Buckley Lake; 21 great-grandchildren; and 34 great-great-grandchildren.
He also was proceeded in death by one son, Lester R. (Mike) Wood, one daughter, Mary Margaret Garrison; and three brothers, Chester Holcomb, Charles (Chuck) Wood and Herman (Butch) Bumgardner.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville with the Rev. James Mathias officiating.
Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and one hour prior to services Tuesday, May 2.
Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit.
JOANNE LOUISE HORSKY
Joanne Louise Horsky, 71, Logan, died Sunday, April 30 at Logan Health Care Center following an extended illness.
Born July 30, 1928, Altoona, Pa., daughter of the late Roy Alton and Thelma Virginia Gates Miller, she was married
for 47 years to Elmer Gene "Al" Horsky, who survives.
She had been a Logan resident for 37 years and retired in 1992, having taught first grade for 29 years in the Logan-Hocking School District.
She was a 1947 Findlay High School graduate and a 1952 Ohio University graduate with a bachelor's degree in fine arts with a major in radio and television. She returned to Ohio University, earning her teaching certificate.
As a teenager, she was a model for Findlay photographer Harriett Green, a varsity cheerleader, homecoming queen of Findlay High School and sang in the United Service Organization (USO) in Toledo.
She was the secretary to the director (Vinnie Jukes) of the 1954 Ohio University Sesquicentennial Celebration. She was the vocalist and business manager of the dance band, The Ohioans, which was originated at Ohio University by Al Horsky.
She was a member of Findlay YMCA/YWCA. She served as vice president and president of Logan Education Association and was a member of Southeastern Ohio Education Association, Ohio Education Association and National Education Association.
She was a lifetime member of the Ohio Retired Teacher's Association (ORTA) and the local ORTA. She was editor of the LEA newsletter from the mid-1960s until the time of her retirement. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma teacher's honorary, Business and Professional Women's Association, American Association of University Women, Athens Women's Music Club and Euterpean Music Club. She also was a member of American Association of Retired Persons.
She was a favorite performer in Hocking County Cancer Society's annual variety show. She was on the board of directors for Stuart's Opera House in Nelsonville and was coordinator and emcee for Hocking County Heart Association's annual Jump-a-Thon for 15 years. She was a member of Logan Band Boosters and was secretary of Logan Alumni Band Association.
She was honored in the 1970s as one of the nation's outstanding elementary teachers and was nominated for the Ashland Oil Teacher Achievement award in 1989. She was listed in the 1989-90 "Who's Who in American Education, " and was inducted into the LEA Hall of Fame in 1995.
A devout Christian, she was baptized and married
in St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Findlay.
Also surviving are a son, David Alan (Cindy) Horsky of Lancaster; a daughter, Mrs. Phillip (Debbie) Hamrick of Newark; four grandchildren, Carrie and Anna Horsky, both of Lancaster, and Bryan and Matthew Hamrick, both of Newark; four brothers, Fred (Dorothy) Kiehne of Dayton, Ron (Margaret) Kiehne of Washington, Tom Kiehne of Kellyville, Okla., and Bill Kiehne of Sandusky; two sisters, Carol Kiehne of San Francisco, Calif., and Nancy Bryan of Novelty; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by her adoptive father, Paul Kiehne, and a stepfather, Lynn "Stew" Stewart.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Roberts Funeral Home with Monsignor James A. Geiger officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 today at the funeral home.

GLADYS O. POWERS
Gladys O. Powers, 82, Lancaster, died Monday, May 1 at Crestview Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lancaster.
Daughter of the late Guy and Ethel Evans Vaughn, she was the widow of James E. Powers.
She was a member of Lancaster Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Olivedale Senior Citizens Center and Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW.
She was retired from the general office of Anchor Hocking Corporation.
Surviving are two sons, Roger (Paula) Powers of Lancaster and James (Nancy) Powers of Rockbridge; seven grandchildren, Mike Powers, Mrs. Dean (Kristy) Miller, Mrs. Paul (Kathy) Adams, Mark (Beth) Powers, Mick Powers, all of Sugar Grove, and Stacy Powers and Mrs. David (Stefanie) Hodgson, both of Lancaster; step-granddaughter Mrs. Jim (Tammy) Crawford of Rockbridge; several great-grandchildren; a cousin, Mrs. Ken (Marcie) Greenwood of North Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Friend, Lulu Shaeffer and Mrs. Kenneth (Vivian) Richards, all of Lancaster; two brothers-in-law, Pat Powers and Sam Powers, both of Lancaster; a special friend, Ann Powers of Sugar Grove; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Vaughn.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sheridan Funeral Home with Pastor Loren Fenton officiating.
Burial will be at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Lancaster.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.

ANGEL HOPE WHALEN
Angel Hope Whalen, infant daughter of Corey J. and Tara N. Snyder Whalen of Logan, died at birth Friday, April 28 at Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.
Also surviving are grandparents, Rick and Becky Snyder and Dennis and Cindy Baker, all of Logan, and Dan and Mary Whalen of Nelsonville; great-grandparents, Thelma Kincade of Albany and Don and Valerie Snyder of Logan; great-grandmother, Joanne Eyerman of Logan; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanual United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Wheeler officiating.
No calling hours will be observed.

R. STANLEY KNOTTS
R. Stanley Knotts, 79, Lancaster, died Monday, May 1 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
Son of the late Otis and Martha Knotts, he was the widower of Mary Gompf Knotts.
He was a retired dental technician and World War II staff sergeant in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 11.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Susan Ann) Bigham of Amanda, and Martha Marie Knotts of Columbus; one son, John Stanley (Teri) Knotts of Groveport; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Wills; and five brothers, George, Walter, Earl, Richard and Woody Knotts.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. John C. Davidson officiating.
Burial will follow in Forest Rose cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 today at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, Lancaster, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
The Lancaster Veterans Burial Squad will conduct military rites at the cemetery.

SANDRA C. STEWART
Sandra C. Stewart, 57, Logan, died Monday, May 1 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
Born Feb. 21, 1943, Cuyahoga Co., the daughter of Ellen Murphy Spinner of Twinsburg and the late Andrew Spinner, she was married
to David Spinner, who survives.
She was a homemaker, a member of the Ilesborro Farmeretts, and a previous member of the Twinsburg Lady's Auxiliary Fire Department and the Twinsburg Garden Club.
Also surviving are one son, Brian (Cheryl) Stewart of Northfield; two daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Dana) Johnson of Canal Fulton, and Beth Stewart of Logan; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Meghan Stewart, Brianna, Kristen and Benjamin Johnson, and Amber and Brandy Moody; two brothers, Scott Spinner of Arizona, and Shawn Spinner of Stow; and one sister, Sharon Cistone of Twinsburg.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan, with additional services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Crown Hill cemetery Chapel, Twinsburg.

ELSIE I. CAMPBELL
Elsie I. Campbell, 72, Logan, died Thursday, May 4 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Born June 15, 1927, Hocking County, daughter of the late Albert and Nancy Chilcote Woolever, she was the widow of Fred Campbell.
Surviving are three sons, Bob Willard and Jim Willard, both of Rockbridge, and Terry Snyder of Logan; a daughter, Louise Friesner of Lancaster; two sisters, Betty Hampshire and Ruby Gill, both of Logan; a brother, Marion Woolever of Avon Park, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan, with the Rev. Marvin Walker officiating.
Burial will be in New Fairview Memorial Gardens, Rockbridge.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral home.
GEORGE A. KELLEY
George A. Kelley, 54, Logan, died Thursday, May 4 at Arcadia Acres Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 10, 1945, Miami County, he was the son of the late Elvy Kelley.
No calling hours will be observed.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

ELISA ZANNER
Elisha Zanner, Groveport, formerly of Logan, died Thursday, May 4 at her residence.
Born Sept. 17, 1922, Antigua, Guatemala, Central America, she was the widow of Raymond F. Zanner.
God, whom she loved and served all her life, has called this angel home.
She retired after many years of teaching, the last 10 in Canal Winchester. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Altar Society, Forever Young Club and the Catholic Women's Club of Naples, Fla.
She was a life member of the Ohio Retired Teacher's Association and was affiliated with several educational associations.
Surviving are children, Erick and Susan Zanner and Eddie and Becky Zanner; a beautiful Grandma, her memory lives on with her adoring grandchildren, Margot, Johnny, Ethan, Diane Elisa and Melinda Zanner; a brother, Dr. C. Enrique Fernandez Junama; a caring friend, Virginia Bauman; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Margot Dressler Junama.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church, Groveport, with Father J. Lawrence Reichert and Monsignor Anthony Missimi Cocelebra officiating.
Interment will be in St. Joseph cemetery, Lockbourne.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 Sunday at Myers Funeral Home, Groveport.
Rosary will be recited 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
