LINDEN NATHANIEL TOWNSEND
Linden Nathaniel "Joe" Townsend, 73, Logan, died Wednesday, May 31 at his residence after an extended illness.
Born Feb. 10, 1927, West Somerset, N.Y., son of the late Ira Lester and Maude J. (Pratt) Townsend, he was married
to Clara Audrey Hare Townsend, who survives.
A World War II veteran, he served as a navigator with the Marine Corps. He retired as operations manager in 1986 from Carborundum Company after 39 years of service. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a senior member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, a former member of Logan Kiwanis Club, former adviser at Tri-County Vocational School and former member of the National Rifle Association. He also was an avid outdoorsman.
Also surviving are four sons, Edward R. (Patricia) Townsend of Colorado, Richard L. Townsend of Lancaster, Arthur J. (Caren) Townsend of Florida and James W. (Jena) Townsend of Texas; two grandchildren, A. Ryan Townsend of Waterville and Alicia Townsend of Florida; and one brother, Ronald Townsend of Henderson, Nev.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Townsend and Flora Townsend.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Roberts Funeral Home with the Rev. Lawrence R. Hoffmann officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Combined Veterans of Hocking County.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 Saturday and from 9 a.m. until time of services Sunday at the funeral home.
ROSALIE MOSCATO
Rosalie "Rosie" Moscato, 60, Logan, died Saturday, June 3 at her residence after an extended illness.
Born Oct. 21, 1939, Hollister, she was the daughter of Sarah Jane Sweeney Moscato of Logan and the late Sam Moscato.
A 1982 practical nursing graduate of Hocking College, she retired from Hocking Valley Community Hospital in 1998 after 27 years of service in the medical records department. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church and formerly worked for Buckeye Community Services.
Also surviving are a brother, Anthony William (Sharon E.) Moscato of Logan; a sister, Jean M. VanSickle of Logan; a nephew, Richard Wayne VanSickle of Canal Winchester; and three nieces, Connie VanSickle of Canal Winchester, Patricia VanSickle of Groveport, and Mindy Moscato of Logan.
Private burial services will be held at the convenience of the family.
No calling hours will be observed.
The family suggests contributions be made in Rosalie Moscato's memory to the Hocking Valley Community Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 966, Logan, Ohio 43138.

NEVADA BELLE SMITH
Nevada Belle Smith, 84, Athens, formerly of Logan, died Saturday, June 3 at the home of her daughter.
Born Nov. 25, 1915, Gibisonville, daughter of the late David and Pansy Merle Brashares Wylie, she was the widow of Clyde Denver Smith, who died in 1986.
She retired after teaching for 33 years in Laurelville, Union Furnace, Sugar Grove and Logan High School. A graduate of Ohio University, she was a member of Mount Olive United Methodist Church in Gibisonville and Hocking County Retired Teachers' Association.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra K. Smart of Athens; a grandson, Jonathan Smart of Athens; a granddaughter, Kara Smart of Athens; a sister, Opal Lucille Wylie of Gibisonville; and a sister-in-law, Mary Wylie of Rockbridge.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas D. "Doc" Wylie and Mark William Wylie.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Olive United Methodist Church, Gibisonville, with the Rev. John T. Williams officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Olive cemetery, Gibisonville.
Friends may call from noon until time of services Tuesday at the church.

KENNETH W. BRIGHT SR.
Kenneth W. Bright Sr., 85, died Saturday, June 3 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, N.Y.
Born June 26, 1914, Omaha, Neb., son of the late Warren and Florence Harry Bright Sr., he was the widower of Ethel S. "Pat" Patton Bright.
A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, he retired from Columbia Gas Co. after 43 years of service. He was a lifetime member of Immanuel United Methodist Church and a 65-year member of the choir.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth W. Bright Jr. of Carbondale, Ill., and Stephen K. (Susan) Bright of Pittsford, N.Y.; a daughter, Mrs. Rick (Julia) Overturf of Copperas Cove, Texas; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Louise Heinlein Bright; a daughter, Karen McDowell; and two brothers, Samuel A. Bright and the Rev. Warren Bright Jr.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary K. Wheeler officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.

JOHN ALVA CHILCOTE SR.
John Alva Chilcote Sr., 56, Rockbridge, died Tuesday, June 6 at his residence.
Born July 23, 1943, Willoughby, son of the late Alva F. and Dessie L. Poling Chilcote, he was married
to Marvene C. Sams Chilcote, who survives.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Nelsonville.

CHARLES F. CARPENTER
Charles F. "Frank" Carpenter, 74, Maxville, died Tuesday, June 6 at his residence.
Born June 10, 1925, Fairfield County, son of the late Roland Charles and Florence Ada Young Carpenter, he was married
to Myrle G. Mohler Carpenter, who survives.
A World War II veteran, he retired from Diamond Power Company in Lancaster. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and a member of Logan DAV.
Also surviving are two sons, Glen (Shirley) Carpenter of Logan and Roger (Dodie) Carpenter of Maxville; a daughter, Mrs. Hubert (Diane) Taulbee of Logan; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Claude Crane of Sugar Grove and Jacob Carpenter of Lancaster; and two sisters, Mary Wahl of Logan and Lorene Billman of Boardman.
He also was preceded in death by a sister, Bess Ann Carpenter.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Perry County, with the Revs. Charles Spier and James Allison officiating.
Interment will be in Ebenezer cemetery.
Special military graveside services will be conducted by the Hocking County Combined Color Guard Unit.

DON HEMSWORTH
Don E. Hemsworth, 73, Gallipolis, died Tuesday, June 6 at Holzer Medical Center.
Born March 8, 1927, Logan, son of the late O.L. "Buzz" and Margaret Ellen Hemsworth, he was the widower of Norma Jean Harrison Hemsworth, who died in 1994.
A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of the American Legion Post #27 of Gallipolis, a member of VFW Post #4464, a member of Morning Dawn Masonic Lodge #7, Gallipolis Chapter #79 Royal Arch Masons, Moriah Council #32 Royal and Select Mastery, Rose Commandery #43 Knight Templer and a member of Aladdin Temple Shrine of Columbus and was past state commander of the Military Order of the Cooties.
Surviving are a son, Tim (Ginger) Hemsworth of Cincinnati; a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Tammy) Morgan of Edmond, Okla.; two grandchildren, Erin (Jill) Hemsworth of Cincinnati and Jack (Elizabeth) Morgan of Edmond, Okla.; special friend, Sally Layne of Gallipolis; brother, Glen (Pat) Hemsworth of Logan; and a sister, Mrs. William (Norma) Lehman of Logan.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Willis Funeral Home, Garfield Avenue and Portsmouth Road, Gallipolis, with the Msgr. William Myers officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Street cemetery.
Masonic services will be 8:30 p.m by the Morning Dawn Lodge #7.

BONNIE ROWLANDS
Bonnie Helen Rowlands, 74, Logan, formerly of Medina, died Wednesday, June 7 at Arcadia Acres Nursing Home, Illesboro, after an extended illness.
Born May 1, 1926, Ashland, daughter of the late Frank Russell and Levis Swineford Smith, she was the widow of David Rowlands II, who died in 1975.
A graduate of Ashland College, she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Medina and an antique dealer, having owned and operated Bonnie Rowland's Antique Shop for 25 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Geoff (Rebecca Jo) Roche of Logan; a son, David (Julie) Rowlands III of Broadview Heights; two grandchildren, Chad and Kristen Glaser of Logan; a brother, Marshall Smith of Jupiter, Fla.; and a sister, Jeanne Conklin of Ashland.
Memorial services will be at a later date in Medina.
Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Medina.

HARRY WALKER
Harry Walker, 76, died Thursday, June 8 at Dayton VA Hospital.
preceded in death by his parents, he was married
to Joan Walker, who survives.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he was retired from the state of Ohio.
Also surviving are four daughters, Cheri Arnold, Christy Walker, Mrs. Greg (Jeanne) Zorich and Mrs. Scott (Miki) Hughes; five grandchildren, Russ, Nick, Staci, Kaitlyn and Madison; and a sister, Jean Craven.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Jerry Spears Funeral Home.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Per the deceased's wishes, he will be cremated.
ETHEL F. BUCHMAN
Ethel F. Buchman, 62, Chauncey, died Saturday, June 10 at her residence.
Born Jan. 1, 1938, Millfield, she was the daughter of Dortha Russell Hamilton of Athens and the late Earl Hamilton.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home, Murray City.
Burial will be in Carbon Hill cemetery.
