Clyde M. Hubbard
Former Bellefontaine resident Clyde M. Hubbard, 78, of Jeffersonville, Ind., passed away quietly in his home Monday, Dec. 10, 2001.
A longtime resident of Bellefontaine, he retired from the City Water Department and was a World War II veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Lynda Klingsmith and Patty Fout, both of Indiana; two sons Jim and Mike Parrett, both of Arizona; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Herbert L. Wirick
Herbert L. Wirick, 83, of West Liberty, died at 11:36 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at Mary Rutan Hospital.
He was born in Logan County on April 18, 1918, a son of the late Byron and Rowena Taylor Wirick.
On Aug. 30, 1940, he married the former Ruth E. Grimes and she preceded him in death Oct. 16, 1989. He married the former Beatrice Davidson Woodruff on Sept. 22, 1991, and she survives in West Liberty.
The self-employed truck driver was retired from Miller Meteor in Piqua and during retirement, was employed with the Transportation Research Center in East Liberty.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the United Church of Christ and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1080 in Bellefontaine.
Also surviving are one son, Kayo (Melanie) Wirick of West Liberty; two daughters, Joyce (Steve) McCullough of West Liberty and Marian (Dennis) Nolan of Urbana; two stepsons, Tim (Joyce) Woodruff of West Liberty and Mark (Dawn) Woodruff of Loveland; one brother, Philip (Betty) Wirick of West Liberty; two grandchildren, Chris (Stacy) McCullough and Ryan (Cindy) Wirick; five great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.
Two grandsons, Rick Wirick and Jeff Wirick, preceded him in death.
Nila C. Cummins
Nila C. Cummins, 96, of Russells Point, died at 4 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at Heartland of Indian Lake Rehab, Lakeview.
She was born in Logan County on Aug. 22, 1905, a daughter of the late Ralph and Elizabeth Taylor Cummins.
She worked as a cook at New Hampshire School and the Indian Lake Manor.
Survivors include one foster brother, Carl D. Cummins of Wapakoneta; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Deloris Sue Guthrie
Deloris Sue Guthrie, 52, of Hilliard, died suddenly Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 27, 1949, in Louisa, Ky., a daughter of the late Winfred and Goldie Ledingham Burchett.
She was an avid collector of angels, a member of VFW Post 1080, and a former bartender at AMVETS Post 105, Bellefontaine.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Harold Allen; and two brothers, Elmer Burchett and Bill Burchett.
Survivors include two children, Tammy (John) Wright of Hilliard and Mark (Misty) Dawson of Bellefontaine; three grandsons, Steven Wright, Michael Wright and Justin Dawson.
Also surviving are six sisters, Jean Bentley, Eva Colvin and Freda Laney, all of Louisa, Rosie McMillian of Raymond, Mary Love of Marysville and Edie Longworth of Newport, Mich.; and one brother, John Burchett of Plain City.
Kenneth R. Lord
Kenneth R. Lord, 76, of Lakeview, died at 10:40 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, in his home.
He was born in Farmington, Mich., on Feb. 3, 1924, a son of the late George and Ruth Axford Lord.
On Feb. 11, 1950, he married the former Harriett Vander Swag and she survives.
He was a carpenter with the R.L. Vander Swag Carpentry company before retiring. A World War II veteran who served as a seaman first class aboard the USS Harris, APA-2 in the Pacific Theater, he was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8832 of Roundhead.
Also surviving are one son, Duane (Barbara) Lord of Marysville; three daughters, Dianne (Dewey) Smith and Denise Early, both of Lima, and Debbie (Robert) Commeans of Hilliard; one brother, Garnet Lord of Fenton, Mich.; one sister, M. Lorraine (Ed) Brunet of Russells Point; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and six great- stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Alfred Lord, and one sister, Marion Lord.
David Wellington Corwin
David Wellington Corwin, 81, of Ridgeway, died at 3 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at Mary Rutan Hospital.
Born March 15, 1920, in Hart, Mich., he was a son of the late Clifton and Mary Pegg Corwin.
On Oct. 29, 1939, he married Beth McDuffee in Rushsylvania. She died Feb. 21, 1998.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth (Molly) Corwin of Huntsville and Darrel (Linda) Corwin of Ridgeway; one daughter, Diana (Bob) Fillinger of Rushsylvania; two sisters, Olive Tapp of San Gabriel, Calif., and Doresa Brugler of Naperville, Ill.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Corwin; and three sisters, Martha Kerns, Dorthea Terrill and Helen Peterson.
In 1982, he retired as an assembler for Creviston Implement. He also farmed.
The 1937 graduate of Rushsylvania High School was a member of the Ridgeway United Methodist Church. He also belonged to the Rushsylvania Lions Club and formerly was a member of the Logan County Cattlemen's Association and the Logan County Farm Bureau.
A woodworker, leather craftsman and bee keeper, he and his wife were broom makers and traveled with this craft to shows around the state. An avid card player, he especially liked to play Pine Island rum and entertain in the family log cabin. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Ward L. 'Herk' Davie
Ward L. "Herk" Davie, 63, of Rockbridge and formerly of Raymond, died unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, in the emergency room at Memorial Hospital of Union County in Marysville.
He was born in Raymond on Aug. 10, 1938, a son of the late Carl J. and Ruth Grant Davie.
He married the former LaDonna Barry Rausch in Rushsylvania on Feb. 6, 1965, and she survives along with four children, Sharon (Nick) Johnson of Zanesfield, R. Lee Rausch of North Carolina and Debra (Jim Rogers) Sweeney and Steve (Angie) Rausch, both of Marysville; seven grandchildren, David Johnson, B.J. Phillips, Melanie Sweeney and Austin, Chelsie, Brittany and Caleb Rausch.
Also surviving are one brother, John (Betty) Davie of Bellefontaine; one sister, Janet "Peg" Anderson of Delaware; mother-in-law, Frances M. Amrine of Marysville; and many nieces and nephews and special friends.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Nathaniel Davie, Carl Davie Jr., Tom Davie and James Davie; and sisters, Joy Brehm, Esther Beightler, Ruby Fisher and Laura Jean Penny.
Involved in construction building since 1966, he became a well-known brick mason in the Marysville area and throughout Ohio.
A former adviser for the original Bit and Bridle 4-H Club in Raymond, he and his wife moved to Ohio to enjoy their fox trotting and racking horses, trail riding and camping. He and his family raised and showed Quarter horses. A farrier, he bought and sold horses and tack, judged for open class horse shows and enjoyed wood projects, yard sales and campfires with friends.
Of the Methodist faith, he was a former member of Heart of Ohio Saddle Club, the American Quarter Horse Association and was a former volunteer fireman for Liberty Township in Raymond.
Shirley Ann MacDonald
Shirley Ann MacDonald, 59, of 2666 Township Road 198, died at 4:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at her residence.
She was born in Huntsville on March 23, 1942, a daughter of the late Faye and Lucille Lash Pool.
In March 1987, she married Gordon MacDonald in Bellefontaine.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda (Gregory) Beecher of Marysville and Denise (Todd) Kipker of Belle Center; one stepdaughter, Kimberly (Chris) Zachar of Denver; one stepson, Clark (Diane) MacDonald of Upper Arlington; five grandchildren, Chad Beecher, Kyle Beecher, Shayla Kipker, Devin Kipker and Gordon MacDonald.
Also surviving are six brothers, Faye Pool of Willard, Ed Pool and Roger Pool, both of Bryan, and Jim Pool, Bob Pool, and George Pool, all of Bellefontaine; one sister, Susie Hunsicker of Bellefontaine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
One brother, Bernard Pool, preceded her in death.
A homemaker who enjoyed gardening and interior design, she also was a cosmetologist. For several years she owned a styling salon in Wapakoneta that featured men's hair styling, and also was employed at several salons in the Logan County area.
Mary Itelia Williams
Mary Itelia Williams, 84, of Mansfield, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 15, 2001, at her home following a long illness.
Born July 2, 1917, in Dayton, she was a daughter of Beauregard and Alice Sanders Benthall and attended Mt. St. Joseph Academy in Cincinnati. She graduated from Stokes Township High School in Lakeview in 1936.
In 1960, she moved from Ayersville to Mansfield, where she was an avid golfer. She had completed extensive research in genealogy, enjoyed gardening and appreciated antiques.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cloyd "Mike" Williams on June 14, 1973; and by a grandson, Steven Miller on Nov. 6, 1980.
Along with her husband, she co-owned and operated the former Babcock Donut Shop, a business founded by her grandfather, Harry Babcock.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Alice "Mick" and Earl "Smokey" Gibson of Columbus and O'Connor's Point, Indian Lake, and Gay and Steve Miller of Mansfield; one son and daughter-in-law, William W. and Margaret Williams of Lexington; two grandchildren, Alexis Miller and Kristi Williams (Chris) Humphrey; and a great-grandson, Michael Humphrey.
