HARRY BENTON STEPHENSON
Harry Benton "Steve" Stephenson, 80, Logan, died Friday, Aug. 18, at Logan Health Care Center after an extended illness.
Born Feb. 11, 1920, Logan, son of the late Ira Benton and Ethel Marie VanCuren Stephenson, he was the widower of Ruth Evelyn Myers Stephenson, who died Feb. 24, 1988.
He retired on June 1, 1982, having been a meter reader for the Ohio Power Company for 31 years; served as a volunteer for the Hocking Valley Community Hospital; was a special deputy for the Hocking County Sheriff Department; a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Logan; an Army veteran of World War II; enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing; and also was a ham radio operator.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Howard (Hilda L.) Schrader of Logan; sister-in-law, Naomi Myers of Logan; five nieces, Linda K. Bensonhaver and Kim Robb, both of Logan, Carole A. Martin of Swoope, Va., Sherry Newcomb of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Ruth E. Schrader of Springfield, Ill.; four nephews, Larry Stuart of Dunnellon, Fla., Howard Schrader Jr. and Steve Schrader, both of Logan, and Andrew Schrader of Lancaster; and several great- and great-great nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Ira Jr. Stephenson, Harold Robert Stephenson and Norbert Neil Stephenson; and one sister, Betty Margaret Stephenson.
Graveside and military services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Grove cemetery with the Rev. Danny Koch officiating.
Friends may call from noon until 1:45 Tuesday at Roberts Funeral Home.

HELEN F. MILLER
Helen F. Miller, 93, died Sunday, Aug. 20, at Wexner Heritage Village.
She was the widow of Harold T. Miller, who died in 1977.
She was a member of Brookwood Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Jean Courtney of Englewood, Fla.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nieces, Nancy Myers of Gahanna and Meredith Ann Pearsall of Rockbridge; and very special friends, Chuck and Betty Koontz.
She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Meredith, Joseph and Robert Gano.
Memorial services will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Brookwood Presbyterian Church, 2685 E. Livingston Ave., with the Rev. Thomas Mori officiating.
Private interment of cremains was held at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
ROBERT M. GILLILAN
RRobert M. Gillilan, 88, Nelsonville, died Monday, Aug. 21 at his residence.
Born Aug. 23, 1911, Vinton County, son of the late Ripley and Maude Stage Gillilan, he was married
to Helen L. Lovsey Gillilan, who survives.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Nelsonville Wesleyan Church.
Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Nelsonville.

TRACEY W. CONRAD
Tracey W. Conrad, 77, Logan, died Tuesday, Aug. 23 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 25, 1922, Logan, son of the late Raymond and Lucille A. Miller Conrad, he was married
to Lucille Hall Conrad of Logan, who survives.
A WWII Navy veteran, he retired from Logan Carborundum Corp. in 1983, was a member of Nelsonville VFW and of Logan High School Football Hall of Fame.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. James (Mary H.) Roberts and Jaqueline M. Dawson, both of Columbus; three grandchildren, Terry Washington, Mrs. Roger (Teresa) Kazee and Michael Dawson, all of Columbus; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Conrad of Nelsonville and Charles B. Conrad of Logan; two sisters, Pauline Miller of Nelsonville and Josephine Walker of Dayton; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
He also was preceded in death by a son, Tracy W. Conrad; three daughters, Pearl Albert, Martha JoAnn and Karen Ann Conrad; two brothers, Stanley and Jackie Conrad; and three sisters, Christine Stevens, Thelma Conrad and Margaret Peppers.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan, with Pastor Debbie Miller officiating.
Interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Combined Veterans of Hocking County.

TREVA I. SHAW
Treva I. Shaw, 89, Nelsonville, died Monday, Aug. 21 at Doctor¹s Hospital, Nelsonville.
Born Sept. 12, 1910, Athens County, she was the daughter of the late Emery and Cornelia Christian Shaw.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville.
Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Nelsonville.

GEORGE NOEL BARKHURST
George Noel Barkhurst, 62, Logan, died unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 24 at his residence.
Born July 1, 1938, McConnelsville, he was the son of Fay Williams Barkhurst of Malta and the late George Hoffman Barkhurst.
A Morgan County native, he had worked for the Hoosier Electric Company in Indiana, Ohio Power Company in Logan, South Central Power Company in Circleville and for Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Company as a lineman in the Chillicothe District.
He was active in many Masonic organizations.
He recently was awarded the Knight Commander of the Temple of the Grand Encampment of Knights Templar of the United States of America.
He was a member of Mingo Lodge 171, Logan, P.M.; Logan Chapter 75 RAM, PHM; past district deputy grand high priest of the 13th Capitchular District RAM; Hock-Hocking Council 39 R&SM, PIM: Logan Commandery 78, Knights Temple, P.C.; 32nd degree, Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Cambridge; Aladdin Shrine, Columbus; Hocking County Shrine Club; Venus Chapter 76, Order of Eastern Star, Logan; Honorary member New Straitsville Lodge 484; past member of Corinthian Lodge 111 F&AM, McConnelsville; Ohio Priory 18 Knights of the York Cross of Honour; Knight Commander of the Temple; named Mr. Mingo in 1987; W.J. Reese Council 141 of Allied Masonic degrees; and Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests.
He also was a national member of Harley Davidson owner¹s group; lifetime member National Rifle Association; lay leader at Union United Methodist Church, Enterprise charge; formerly active with Boy Scouts Troop 99; active in community affairs with the former Hocking Valley Varieties Association and Logan Bicentennial Celebration; and a volunteer electrician for Logan High School.
Also surviving are a three sons, Joel (Karen) Barkhurst of Logan, Gary (Kelly) Barkhurst of Cincinnati and Mick (Kristy) Barkhurst of Logan; a daughter, Mrs. Gib (Renee) Tschudy of Logan; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Craig A. Barkhurst of Cincinnati.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Lowell and Edwin K. Barkhurst.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Roberts Funeral Home with the Rev. Clarence M. Thompson officiating.
Burial will be in McConnelsville cemetery.

JOSEPH E. GIFFEN SR.
Joseph E. Giffen Sr., 64, Glouster, died Friday, Aug. 25 at Chillicothe VA Medical Center.
Born April 12, 1936, Athens County, son of the late Elige and Dasie Rutter Giffen, he was the widower of Wilma L. Stiers Giffen.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home, Murray City.
Burial will be in Glouster cemetery.

ARTHUR SHERMAN DILLIE
Arthur Sherman Dillie, 61, Laurelville, died Saturday, Aug. 26 at Berger Hospital.
Born Aug. 27, 1938, Hocking County, son of the late Rufus Leslie and Wanda Mae Kuhn Dillie, he married
Kneece Dillie Sept. 14, 1968, who survives.
A timber cutter for Mercer Logging, he was a member of the Red Men Lodge.
Also surviving are two brothers, Clayton (Connie) Dillie of Laurelville and Harry (Janice) Dillie of Amanda; four sisters, Mrs. Francis (Avanell) Hart of Londonderry, Mrs. Jack (Dollie) Thompson and Mrs. Carl (Ethel) Hart, both of Laurelville, and Mrs. Arnold (Edith) Holbrook of Circleville; and two sisters-in-laws, Mabel Imler Dillie of Laurelville and Alice Robinson Dillie of McArthur.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Wingett and Clarence Dillie.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Carmel Church, Bluecreek Road, Laurelville, with the Rev. James Vandagriff officiating.
Memorial services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today by the Red Men Lodge.

WALTER E. FORREST
Walter E. Forrest, 66, Nelsonville, died Saturday, Aug. 26 at his residence.
Born Dec. 13, 1933, Haydenville, son of the late Walter and Nellie Jeffers Forrest, he was married
to Dondana "Tillie" McConaha Forrest, who survives.
A Korean War Marine Veteran who served in the Ohio National Guard Logan Unit Battery A 2nd Battalion 174th ADA, serving a combined total of 28 years, he worked at Carborundum Company of Logan.
Also surviving are three sons, Ronald (Darla) Forrest of Bokens, Michael (Kathi) Forrest of Columbus and Terry Lee (Brenda) Robinette of Doanville; two daughters, Pricilla McConaha of Nelsonville and Mrs. Jerry (Tanaya) Jones of Carbon Hill; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Harley Forrest of New Philadelphia; and a sister, Electa Teal of Kimberly.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Richard Forrest.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with the Rev. Kenneth Donley officiating.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit.
At the request of the family, he will be cremated.
BOBBY LEE HARRIS
Bobby Lee Harris, 71, Buchtel, died Saturday, Aug. 26 at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville after suffering from leukemia.
Born July 27, 1929, Longstreth, son of the late Edward and Gladys Galentin Harris, he married
Barbara R. Harris July 27, 1949, who survives.
A U.S. Army Veteran, he was a retired employee of the U.S. Post Offices in Nelsonville and in The Plains, a member of York Township and Nelsonville fire departments, a member of Philodorian Lodge F&AM of Nelsonville, 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Aladdin Shrine of Columbus where he was named ambassador. He also was a member of Athens County Shrine Club, president of Athens County Hillbillys, served on the W.I.N. committee, a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church of Nelsonville, a ham radio operator, a longtime Scoutmaster, was active in all organizations, serving as cook for many of them, a member of Nelsonville VFW, was associated with Warren Funeral Home and Brown Funeral Home for several years and graduated from Carbon Hill High School.
Also surviving are two sisters, Kathryn Herrold of Nelsonville and Mrs. Richard (Janet) Brown of Amesville; three brothers, Jack (Darla) Harris of Reynoldsburg and Charlie (Nancy) Harris and Lester (Faye) Harris, both of Nelsonville; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, Mac Harris; and a sister, Juanita Hawk.
Graveside services were held 11 a.m. today at Carbon Hill cemetery with the Rev. Harold McConnell officiating.
