Dale H. Meredith
1927-2011

The Lord Jesus took Dales' hand and led him home on November 12, 2011 from the New Life Hospice after a brave battle with Leukemia. Dale, 84 was born and raised in Lorain, graduated from Lorain High with the class of 1945 A.
He served in the U.S Army in WWII in the 397th Railway Police Unit in Germany. Remaining in the service after the war, he was a player/manager of a baseball team that barnstormed around Europe.
After coming home from the service in 1947, Dale began his local sandlot career with Kirby Cleaners, Lawson Lumber, Lorain Glass and finished in Class A with Ed's Indians, as a right handed pitcher.
Dale also played basketball in the city leagues and later was the refree at games in the YMCA and county high schools.
He played softball with the Lorain Telephone Company, bowled with the service leagues and enjoyed golfing in the senior league. He was proud of his hole in one in June of 1997.
He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, also served on the board for Salvation Army and was proud to be a bell ringer at Christmas with his fellow Lions. Dale belonged to the Lorain Lions for 33 years and also served as President. He whole-heartedly supported the clubs fund raising projects.
Dale was a member of the Senior Fellowship Club and was song leader in both clubs. One of his greatest joys was singing and his tenor voice was enjoyed by everyone.
He was a life long, faithful member of St. Johns United Church of Christ and held various offices and sang in the church choir for many years.
Dale was employed by Lorain Telephone Company for 40 years and retired in 1986 as manager of the Outside Plant Engineering Department.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lois, (nee Molnar) Meredith, daughters, Lynette Rogers (David), Nancy Svat (Rick), and sons Mark and Scott (Sue) Meredith all of Lorain, four granddaughters Kimberly, Megan, Katelyn, and Morgan and grandson Kevin. Dale also had two step grandchildren and four great step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Meredith; mother, Louise (Bischoff) Peters Meredith, sisters Geraldine Peters Toole (Tom), Jeanette Peters Brumback (Bud), infant brother, Raymond and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at St. Johns United Church of Christ, 715 Reid Avenue, Lorain from 4 to 8pm on Tuesday November 15th. The Lorain Lions will conduct a memorial service in Dale's honor at 7:30 pm in the church.
The funeral services will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ on Wednesday November 16, 2011 at 10:30am with Rev. Phil Kunz, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be at Ridge Hill Memorial cemetery with full military honors provided jointly by the American Legion Post 30 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 451.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the St. Johns United Church of Christ as desired.

Kenneth R. Meyers

Kenneth R. "Ken" Meyers, 58, of Elyria, formerly of Lorain (Ashland) passed away at his home on Saturday, January 22, 2011, unexpectedly.
Mr. Meyers was born in Ft. Lee, VA on January 14, 1953, the son of Neil R. and Betty J. (nee Armstrong) Meyers of Vermilion who both survive.
He was a graduate of Lorain's Admiral King High School, class of 1971. He enjoyed fishing, and playing both poker and the lottery.
He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain.
He worked as a maintenance man for Sherwood Forest Apartments, Six Flags Amusements, and the Oberlin Manor Apartments.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughters Eileen M. (Mark Roberts) Rhoades of Loudonville, Laura E. (Bradley) McAfoos of North Pole, Alaska, granddaughters Aurora McAfoos and Joliana Rodriguez, his longtime companion Bonnie of Lorain, brothers Dave (Debbie) Meyers, Jeff (Jan) Meyers both of Lorain, his uncle Erwin (Ann) Armstrong of Amherst, his aunts Jan King of North Ridgeville, Linda Donahue of New Castle, VA his nephew Tom Meyers and a niece Jamie Meyers.
Friends may call Thursday, January 27, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
Additionally friends may call on Friday, January 28, 2011 from 1:00 pm until funeral services at 2:00 pm in the funeral home. The Rev. Jimmy Madsen, co-pastor of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate.

Carl F. Baker

Devoted Husband, Father & Grandfather
Carl F. Baker, 76, of Lorain passed away on Tuesday in the Cleveland Clinic following a short illness.
Carl was born in Redding, PA on March 16, 1935, the son of the late Charles M and Margaret M (nee Mosholder) Baker. He was an U.S. Army veteran.
A former member of the Lake Breeze Church of the Brethren, Carl served as Chairman of the board, and as church treasurer. Currently , an active member of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, he served as a greeter and volunteer in both the clothing drive and food pantry.
Carl retired from the Lowe's Department Store in Elyria.
He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn A. (nee Blose) Baker, a son Brian E (Lorie) Baker of Ft. Wayne, IN, 3 grandchildren, 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two infant sons, two sisters and a brother.
Friends may call Saturday in the Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, 3015 Meister Road, Lorain from 9:00 am until services at 11:00 am. The Rev. Greg Sellers will officiate.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park cemetery. The Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain is handling the services.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church Building Fund or American Heart Association.

James F. Logsdon

James Franklin Logsdon, 81 years of age, and a resident of Lorain since 1950, went home to be present with the Lord, Saturday September 24, 2011 at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born October 2, 1929 in Parkersburg, WV. After serving in the army during the Korean war, he was employed at Fruehauf, and then as an electronics technician with JC Penny's and RCA before leaving to become the operations manager at Stoney's Rainbow Lanes in Elyria for 10 years prior to his retirement in 2001.
A man known for his devotion to God and family with a great sense of humor, he also had a passion for bowling. Jim enjoyed spending time with his wife and family and especially enjoyed his ministries as a deacon at Lorain Baptist Church.
Jim leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 62 years, June (Blosser) Logsdon; his daughters and their husbands, Connie and Ronald Luman of Berlin Heights, and Audrey and Norman Ballinger of Ocean Springs, MS, his sons and their wives Tim and Sue Logsdon, of Lorain, Daniel and Marlee Logsdon of Amherst, and David and Sandy Logsdon, of Grove City, Ohio; his 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; his three brothers Justin Logsdon of Alexandria, VA, Jon Logsdon of Amherst, and Bill Logsdon of Laurel, DE.
He was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Ruth (Gant) Logsdon, daughter, Amy Louise Logsdon in 1963 and his son James Ernest Logsdon in 1964.
Friends may visit Tuesday, Sept 27, 2011 from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m. at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lakeview Baptist Church, corner of Liberty and Ferndale Ave. in Vermilion with Pastors Dempsey Miller and Guy Morton, officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township with full military honors provided jointly by American Legion Post 30 and VFW Post 451.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Lorain Baptist Church, 3640 Palm Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44055.

Mary Ellen Truxell

Mary Ellen Truxell, 59, of Lorain passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at her home unexpectedly. Ms. Truxell was born in Lorain, OH on January 23, 1952, the daughter of Margaret Ruth-Truxell and the late Daniel C. Truxell.
She graduated from Lorain High School in 1970 and received her BA in Primary Education from Ohio University in 1974. Mary Ellen continued to pursue her academic ambitions until 1992 when she received the high honor of obtaining a Masters Degree from Bowling Green State University.
Ms. Truxell spent her entire career teaching in the Lorain City Schools system and was widely regarded as a devoted and respected educator. Mary Ellen was well known for impacting her students' lives through her gift of music. An accomplished musician, she often played her twelve string guitar for assemblies and actively involved the student body by encouraging participation. Mary Ellen welcomed every child with open arms into both her classroom and heart and is remembered by her students and the faculty for her warm spirit and kind nature.
Mary Ellen loved the arts and attended many cultural events. She was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and a wildlife enthusiast who was known for feeding the deer, squirrels, and birds around her home. Ms. Truxell was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Ohio Education Association.
Mary Ellen is survived by her mother Margaret Truxell of Lorain, brother Daniel D. Truxell of Vermilion, and nephew Daniel P. Truxell of Cleveland. Her father preceded her in death.
Friends may call on Monday, October 24, 2011 from 4-7 pm in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, corner of Sixth and Washington Street. Her burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery, Lorain.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to either the New Life Hospice, c/o Community Hospital Foundation, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain 44053 or the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 603 Washington Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.

Gene E. Baumert

Gene E. Baumert, Sr., 72, of Lorain passed away on Monday July 11, 2011 at his home following a short illness.
Mr. Baumert was born in Lorain on March 12, 1939, the son of the late William E. and Alice (nee Quashnefski) Baumert.
Along with his wife, he was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lorain.
Mr. Baumert proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960 working as a heavy equipment tester.
He spent most of his working years installing flooring for L&J Carpet Workshop and later, Baumert Carpet Installers. Mr. Baumert found his peace, when he began working for the City of Lorain in the Parks Department as a grounds keeper. He would go on to work for the City of Lorain for 13 years before retiring in May of 2005.
Mr. Baumert was an avid and accomplished wood carver who enjoyed transforming a simple piece of wood into a piece of art. His children cherish many of the wood carvings he crafted over the years. He also enjoyed football, construction, golfing, and bowling.
Mr. Baumert is survived by two daughters; Rita J. Drum and Kimberly J. (Chuck) Camera both of Lorain, two sons; Gene E. (Linda) Baumert, Jr. of Huber Heights and Daniel S.(Beth) Baumert of Temperance, MI, grandchildren; Rachel Drum, Emily Drum, Sophia Drum ,Paul Baumert, Vinnie Camera, Mario Camera, Gene Baumert III, Deanna Baumert, Benjamin Baumert, Joseph Baumert, Lauren Baumert, Danica Baumert, great grandchildren; Oliver Baumert, and Liam Baumert, a sister Darlene (Denny) Wilhelms of Cape Coral, FL, and a brother Ronald (Donna) Baumert of Lorain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Carolina A. (nee McCauley) Baumert in 2010, a sister Jeannette M. Whitney-Kish, a brother Gerald Whitney, and a son-in-law Donald Drum.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Mr. Baumert’s life will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 East Erie Ave., Lorain, OH 44052 at 11:00 AM on Monday July 18, 2011 with Father Richard Hudak, pastor, officiating.
Burial will take place at a later date.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Adoration Chapel at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44052.
Arrangements were entrusted to Schwartz, Spence Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
