Mary Catherine Masterson

Mary C. Masterson, 83, (nee Amy) passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Altercare of Alliance, in Alliance following a long illness.
Mrs. Masterson was born in Princeton, IN on April 23, 1927, the daughter of the late Harvey and Anna L. (nee Curtz) Amy. She has lived in Lorain since 1945. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, The Church Women's Society, the Mary Hartzel Club and the Pinochle Club. She was active in the Summer Bible School Program in her church in the 1950’s & 60’s as the Song Director. She was an very active member of the Lorain High School Band Parents Organization from 1965 to 1971. She was active in the PTA in the Lorain City Schools for many years.
Mrs. Masterson enjoyed taking care of her husband and her children, reading, crossword puzzles, sewing, and traveling. crafting of all kinds, cooking, baking, attended her sons’ baseball games locally as well as all over the United States when her son Tom traveled with his college baseball team. She took annual family trips to Indiana to visit other family members and traveled across the country with her husband and her sons to as many different professional baseball parks as possible.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, John " Jack" Masterson, Jr., daughter Debbie (Dale) Grasse of Mesa, AZ, sons Michael Masterson of Vermilion, John (Mary) Masterson of Sandusky, Tom (Tennie) Masterson of Louisville, grandchildren, Amy Beth Anello, Andrew Masterson, Kyle Masterson, Zachary Masterson and sister Louise Maclay of Sheffield Village and nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great- great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Baby Girl Masterson, her infant daughter, sisters Ellen Dawson, Velma Thompson, Corean Hightower, Anna Lee Amy, an infant sister and a brother Herschel Amy.
The Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals was entrusted with the arrangements.
Burial was private in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

Louis C. McGee

Louis Clifford McGee, 88, died Thursday evening, September 22, 2011 at Mercy Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mr. McGee was born in Shreveport, LA on January 5, 1923, the son of the late Clifford & Beatrice (Cicero) McGee.
He was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge, while serving in the U.S. Army during W.W. II. Following the war, he worked as a material handling at Fruehauf for 24 years 1946-1970, retiring in 1970. Then Louis workerd as a crane operator for U.S. Kobe Steel until his retirement in 1992.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Evangelical Church where he was an usher. He was active with Meals on Wheels, and also active in the Masons F & AM Black River Lodge #786 and the AmVets.
He is survived by his daughter; Patricia (Robert Schuman) Bajcer of Lorain, son; Gregory A. (Catherine Killam) of Toledo, grandchildren; Robin (Troy) Archer of Salt Lake City, UT, Christine (William) Kimberly of Toledo, Catherine (Damian) Peterson of Washington, DC, Matt (fiance' Heidi) of Chicago, IL, Martha Killam of Columbus, Teah Schuman of Ravenna, Tanya Schuman of Mayfield Heights, great grandchildren Samantha of Toledo, Sarah of Salt Lake City, UT, Anthony of Ravenna, and a sister; Martha Templeton.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McGee was preceded in death by his wife Eileen (Gahagan)McGee on July 12, 2011, a son; Daniel B. McGee, brothers; James Charles, Brownell McGee, sisters; Beatrice Cicero and Lillian Ruth Murray.
A Celebration of Louis' Life will take place Saturday October 1, 2011, at 11:00 am in the First Lutheran Evangelical Church, 603 Washington Ave. Lorain, with Pastor Jimmy Madsen officiating.
The family wishes memorial contributions be made to the First Lutheran Evangelical Church, 603 Washington Ave. Lorain.
There will be no visitation and burial will be at a later date.

Eileen G. McGee

Eileen G. McGee, 94 (nee Gahagan) died Tuesday evening, July 12, 2011 at her home following a long illness.
Mrs. McGee was born on November 24, 1916 in Scott, OH to the late Lawrence and Goldie (nee Keltner) Gahagan.
She was a survivor of the infamous Lorain Tornado. Prior to WW II, she worked as a civilian employee in the Quartermaster Corp. in Mississippi. Following the war, she moved to the Lakewood and Bay Village area returning to Lorain in 1953 as a young widow.
Mrs. McGee was a member of the First Lutheran Evangelical Lutheran Church and was past president of the Women of The Church. She also was a past Worthy Advisor's Group from the Rainbow Girls, Lorain Chapter 8, past Grand Confidential Observer for the State of Ohio-Rainbow Girls and Eastern Star. She served as past president of the Child Conservation League, past Republican Precinct Committee Person, treasurer for the Lorain Republican Central Committee, past member of the Lorain County Central Committee, founding member of the Black River Historical Society, a delegate to the Republican National Convention and past president of the Grand Cross of Color.
She is survived her husband of 55 years, Louis McGee, a daughter Patricia (Robert Schuman) Bajcer of Lorain, Gregory A. (Catherine Killam) of Toledo, grandchildren Robin (Troy) Archer of Salt Lake City, UT, Christine (William) Kimberly of Toledo, Catherine (Damien) Peterson of Washington, DC, Matt (fiance' Heidi) of Chicago, IL, Teah Schuman of Ravenna, Tanya Schuman of Mayfield Heights, great grandchildren Samantha of Toledo, Sarah of Salt Lake City, UT, and Anthony of Ravenna.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. McGee was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence A. Peterson, son Daniel B. McGee and a brother Wade K. Gahagan.
Friends may call on Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 11:00 am concluding with funeral services at 2:00 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain with Rev. Jimmy Madsen, pastor of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating.
Burial will be at a later date.

Margaret "Molly" Truxell

Margaret Irene Truxell (nee Ruth) 82, of Lorain passed away on Friday, December 30, 2011 at her home following a long illness.
Mrs. Truxell was born in Lorain on May 7, 1929, the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Ruth.
Molly was a proud graduate of Lorain High School, class of 1947. During World War II while only still in high school she felt a strong patriotic duty to support her country during war times and decided to work at General Industries manufacturing airplane armatures. One of her favorite childhood memories was meeting Dean Martin in Steubenville, OH during a trip to visit relatives. As Dean carried her groceries, he told Molly of his ambition to become a famous singer and Molly remained a life- long fan of his work.
Mrs. Truxell was an active and devoted member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain for more than 62 years. Molly happily worked at Lorain National Bank until her retirement.
Some of her favorite pastimes included listening to big band music, dancing at Crystal Beach with her husband, taking trips to Cedar Point, and watching any television shows with Rosemary Clooney.
Mrs. Truxell is survived by her son Daniel D.Truxell of Vermilion and her grandson Daniel P. Truxell of Cleveland.
In addition to her parents, Molly was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Ellen Truxell, a brother Charles (Sparky) Ruth, and her husband Daniel C. Truxell.
Friends may call on Monday January 2, 2012 from 4-7 pm at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, corner of 6th and Washington Street, with Rev. Jimmy Madsen officiating. Burial will take place at the Elmwood cemetery in Lorain.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to either the New Life Hospice, c/o Community Hospital Foundation, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain 44053 or the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 603 Washington Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052

John David Virant

John D. Virant, 68, of Lorain died Tuesday evening, March 22, 2011 at his home following a long illness.
Mr. Virant was born in Lorain on October 19, 1942, the son of the late John L. Virant and Irene (nee Erdy) Virant, of Lorain, who survives.
A lifelong resident of Lorain, he was a graduate of Lorain High School, class of 1960. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of First Congregational Church in Lorain.
Mr. Virant was a retired foreman with Lorain City Utilities Department. He worked for the city for more than 34 years.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge #552, and the American Legion Post #30. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and especially summering in his Loudonville Ohio home.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by sons David J. Virant of Lorain, Michael Murr of Amherst, daughters Cindy (Mike) Doane of Wakeman, Lynda Gezzer of Amherst, Patti (Steve) Hickman of New London, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a brother Mike (Janice) Virant of Summersville, SC.
Mr. Virant was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie E. (nee Murr) Virant in 2006 and his father in 2008.
Friends may call on Sunday, March 27, 2011 from 2-5 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain. Following the visitation, a Celebration Of Life will be held at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Kelly Brill, pastor of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ, officiating.
Burial will be in Grove Street cemetery in New London at a later date.
The family suggest that memorial contributions maybe made to Lake View Park Rose Program, 12882 Diagonal Road, LaGrange, Ohio 44050.

Eleanor R. Whitaker

Eleanor R. Whitaker, 82, (nee Sakal) of Lorain passed away at her home on Thursday, June 2, 2011 following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Whitaker was born in Lorain on October 19, 1928, the daughter of the late Joseph and Esther (nee Czene) Sakal.
She was a graduate of Clearview High School. She was a member of Hungarian Reformed Church in Lorain.
Mrs. Whitaker was a retired cleaning matron from Lorain Board of Education primarily at Homewood School. She retired in 1991 following 23 yrs of service. She worked at General Industries in Elyria prior to working for the school system.
She was a member of the Buckeye CBer's Club and was a former member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed baking, cooking, reading, gardening, playing pinnochle, bingo, and watching Cleveland Indians Baseball. The love of her life was spending time with family and friends, especially the Saturday night gatherings.
Mrs. Whitaker is survived by her daughters Roberta L (Dale) Smith, Kimberly A. (Dennis) Edwards, Rebecca M. Whitaker, with whom she made her home, all of Lorain., grandchildren Melissa (Jose) Colon, Melanie and Susan Smith, great grandchildren, Kayla, Leland and Kaden Colon, and a brother Alexander S ( Julia) Sakal of Elyria.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William H. Whitaker in 2005, granddaughter Shelley M. Smith in 2007, grandson, Connor W. Whitaker in 2009, sisters Goldie Sakal, Margaret Razo, Elizabeth Tomkins, Irene Tomsco and brothers Joseph Sakal, Jr., and Steven Sakal.
Friends may call Friday, June 3, 2011 from 5-9 pm. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W 5th Street, Lorain. Prayer services will be at 8:00 pm.
Additionally, friends may call Saturday, June 4, 2011 from 10 am until services at 11 am in the Hungarian Reformed Church, 1691 E. 31st Street, Lorain. The Rev. Peter L. Toth, pastor of the Hungarian Reformed Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

Bertha Iva Williams

Bertha I. Williams, 77, (nee Sprinkle), of Lorain passed away peacefully while in the company of her loving family on Sunday, February 13, 2011 following a brief illness.
Mrs. Williams was born in West Liberty, Ohio on March 2, 1933, the daughter of the late Walter L and Freda (nee Ridout) Sprinkle. Mrs. Williams has been a resident of Lorain since 1967.
She was a retired nurse at the former Lorain Community Hospital, retiring in 1995 with 28 years of service.
Mrs. Williams enjoyed her dogs, traveling, crossword puzzles, bluegrass music, cross stitch and crocheting.
She is survived by her sons Son(s): George "Dennis" D. Colley, Timothy W. Colley both of Lorain, grandchildren Dennis Colley, Melissa Colley, Madison Colley, great grandchildren Alexis Rodriguez, Junito Rodriguez, and a sister Lorita Morrow of Huntington.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond H. Williams in 1995, a daughter Lisa Williams in 1967, a son Randall W Colley in 2008, a sister Marion Smith and a brother Walter Sprinkle, III.
Friends may call on Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 4-7 p.m. at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
Funeral Services in the funeral home will be Friday, February 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Crucita Marrero, of Spanish El Faro Disciples of Christ in Lorain.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park cemetery, Amherst Township, OH
