Barbara O’Hara (nee Steets) – 78 of Avon Lake, formerly of the West Side of Cleveland, passed away, Thursday, October 11, at St. John West Shore Hospital, following a 9 month pulmonary illness. Mrs. O’Hara was born March 24, 1923 in Avella, PA and came to Cleveland as child. She has lived in Avon Lake since 1955. Mrs. O’Hara worked for General Motors at the Tank Plant, Brook Park and Fischer Body, Elyria in the office and retired in 1975. She enjoyed golf and was a member of a women’s golf league at Hilliard Lake Golf Course. She also enjoyed bowling, crafts, sewing and was an avid reader. She is survived by her husband Wilbert C. O’Hara, Jr., whom she married
June 2, 1945. Other survivors include her children, Linda J. (Bruce) Collins of Elgin, Ill, Michael C. (Cynthia) O’Hara of Avon and Pamela R. (Anthony) Janicek of Avon Lake. 9 Grandchildren, brother George Steets of Leigh High Acres, FL, and sisters Irene Olee of Lakewood and Kathryn Amstutz of Strongsville. She is preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Julia (nee Rizsak) Steets, a sister Dorothy Thomas and a brother Frank Steets. Ruth S. Vallandigham (nee Haley) – 86 of Avon Lake, formerly of Rocky River, passed away, Tuesday, September 18 at St. John West Shore Hospital, Westlake, following complications of surgery. Mrs. Vallandigham was born, July 28, 1915 in Chicago. For the past 21/2 years she and her husband have made their home with their daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Gordon Lensner, in Avon Lake. Besides her husband of 64 years, Herschel L., Mrs. Vallandigham is survived by two daughters, Fran R. (Charles) Schroeder of Hampshire, Ill and Joan E. (Gordon) Lensner of Avon Lake. Four Grandchildren, William Burnett, Dawn Schroeder, Lia (Thomas) Palisin and Haley Lensner. Two great grandchildren, Thomas and Jack and a sister, Lorraine (Herbert) Barber of Port Washington, WI. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bernard W. and Frances J. (nee Swanson) Haley, a sister Mabel Cottrell and a brother William Haley. A memorial service will be at the BUSCH-BURMEISTER FAMILY CHAPEL, 163, Avon-Belden Rd., Friday, September 21 at 11:00am. Rev. Joan Skelly-Watts of the Rock Port United Methodist Church, Rocky River, will officiate.

Elyria - Georgie Catherine Malik (nee Benton) – 80 of Elyria, formerly of Arkansas, passed away, Sunday, August 7, in Elyria Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Malik was born, May 30, 1921 in Yellville Arkansas and has lived in Elyria since 1940. During WWII, from 1943-1946, Mrs. Malik worked for the Perry and Fay Company. She also waitressed for a time. She enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers. She is survived by her husband Mike G., whom she married
November 5, 1939. Other survivors include a son Michael (Suzanne) Malik of Elyria, brother Robert Malik and a sister Ethel Corbin both of Yakima, WA and a grandson Peter Malik. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Nellie (nee Thomas) Benton, brothers James, Marvin, Marion and a sister Corrine Wagner. Avon Lake – Barbara R. Hamilton (nee Baker) – 80 of Avon Lake, formerly of Lorain, passed away, Tuesday, August 7, at Avon Oaks Nursing Home, following complications of cancer. Mrs. Hamilton was born, July 16, 1921 in Amherst and has lived in Avon Lake for the past 20 years. Mrs. Hamilton had worked for Lorain National Bank for 25 years. She received an associates degree from Wooster College and was an avid bridge player, and enjoyed reading and golf. She is survived by 2 daughters, Kathleen Bettridge of Avon Lake and Christine Chappell of Cocoa, FL. Other survivors include 3 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a brother Charles A. Baker of Punta Gorda, FL and a sister, Harriet Sandborn of Casper WY. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Helen (nee Stone) Baker. Avon Lake - Dorothy V. Abookire, Formerly Terrell(nee Bycynski) 74 of Avon Lake, Formerly of California, passed away, July 24, at her daughter's home in Elyria, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Abookire was born, September 38, 1926 n Elyria and has lived in Avon Lake for the past 12 years. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Avon Lake, and enjoyed baking, cooking and knitting. She was an avid Cleveladn Indians Baseball fan and found great joy in spending time with her family.
Survivors include a son Timothy (Teri) Terrell of Elyria, 2 daughters, Kathy (Larry) Stark of Burbank, CA and Sheila Terrell of Elyria. Other survivors include 3 brothers John of Marysville, OH, Bernard of Avon Lake, Joseph of St. Petersburg, FL, a sister Gerry Wearsh of Avon Lake, 4 grandson and 2 great grandson. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Maragart (nee Fritz) Bycynski and a brother Stephen.

Lander, WY – Christopher S. Zgurich – 35 of Lander, WY formerly of Avon Lake, passed away, Tuesday, June 26, 2001 in Lander. Mr. Zgurich was born, April 24, 1966 in Youngstown, OH and had lived in Avon Lake most of his life. He was a 1984 graduate of Avon Lake High School. Mr. Zgurich was a Desert Storm Marine Corp Veteran, receiving the Navy Achievement Metal. He graduated in the top 5 percent of the first reserve assault climbers course. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Lander, WY. Mr. Zgurich worked in the ranching industry, in the Fremont County, WY area. He was also owner of Fremont County Tree Trimming and had built log cabins and home as well as, working in electronic. Mr. Zgurich was a cowboy who enjoyed hunting, fishing and ranching. He is survived by his parents, Stephen and Joan Zgurich of Avon Lake; sons Ryan and Shaun, daughters Erin and Riley Zgurich all of Riverton, WY and numerous aunts uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 410 Lear Rd., Avon Lake, Saturday, July 28 at 11:00am. Fr. James H. Beatty of the church will officiate. Interment will be private in the Western Reserve National cemetery, Ritman, OH. Charles Donald Brady

C. Donald Brady - 72 of Avon Lake, fomrerly of Oberlin, passed away, Monday, July 23, at his sister's home in Lakewood. Mr. Brady, know as Don, was born, November 19, 1929 in Connellsville, PA. Mr. Brady was a Biology Teacher, beginning his career in 1959 with the Firelands School District, in 1965 he moved to the North Olmsted City School System and retired from there in 1987. He served in the US Navy on an aircraft carrier, from 1948-1954. He earned his Bachelor in Education Degree from the California State College, Pennsylvania in 1957. In 1959 he received his Masters in Education Degree from the University of West Virginia. In 1961 he continued his education at Indiana University, studing bacteriology. Mr. Brady was a member of the OEA, LCEA, NEOTA and the NABT. He played Clarinet and was anctive in area Dixie Land Music Associations. He enjoyed tying flies, fly fishing and canoeing. His wife Mary Ellen (nee Egbert) whom he married
January 12, 1972, passed away December 23, 1999. He is survived by a daughter Mary C. (Brady) Rosenthol of Andover, MA; a stepson, John F. Nixon of Fairfield, CA; 3 sisters, Lois Samsel of Lakewood, Adrienne Kenny of Pittsburgh, PA and Barbara Glover of Morgantown, WV and 2 grandsons. Besides his wife he is preceded in death by his parents, Francis M. and Adrienne (nee Soisson) Brady and a brother Francis M. Brady. BAY VILLAGE - H. Frank Estok – 87 of Bay Village, formerly of Cleveland, passed away, Monday, July 23 at St. John West Shore Hospital, following a 1-week illness. Mr. Estok was born, November 30, 1913 in Alliance and has live in Bay Village for the past 40 years. Mr. Estok worked for L.T.V. Steel in the Metallurgical Laboratory, retiring January 31, 1979 after 25 years of service. He was a WWII Army Veteran, serving from October 1942 to February 1946. Prior to entering the service, he attended Juliart School of Music, New York City, studying opera and piano. He also attended Dale Carnegie Public Speaking Classes. He was a member of Bethesda on the Bay Lutheran Church, Bay Village and continued to use his musical talents singing in the church’s choir as well as volunteering his time playing piano and singing at Rae Ann Nursing Facility, Westlake and Our House Assisted Living, Westlake. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Martha (nee Hiel). Other survivors include his daughter Kimberly H. (Doug) Eiting of Avon Lake and son Frank R. (Barbara) Estok of Plantation, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Martha (nee Waladi) Estok and a sister Hermina Meinzer. Memorial service at Bethesda on the Bay Lutheran Church, 28607 Wolf Rd., Bay Village, 44140, Friday, July 27 at 1:00pm. Rev. Dennis Stylski of the Church will officiate. Avon Lake – Marian Demsey (nee Demma), 87 of Avon Lake, passed away, Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at Avon Oaks Skilled Nursing Facility, Avon, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Demsey was born, September 29, 1913 in Chicago and came to Avon Lake as a child. She was a 1932 graduate of Avon Lake High School and had worked for 30 years as a teller for National City Bank at the main branch in Cleveland. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Chapter 557, Avon Lake and enjoyed sewing and quilting. He husband of 62 years Bernard E., passed away November 15, 1999. She is survived by 2 sisters, Ann Gerbick of Avon Lake, and Dorothy Schwinn of Lakewood, as well as, many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Josephine (nee Corso) Demma.
