George T. Lazard
January 6, 1948 - August 2, 2004
Birthplace: Euclid, OH
Resided In: Lakewood, OH
cemetery: Lakewood Park cemetery, 22025 Detroit Road, Rocky River, OH 44116
Lakewood, Ohio - George T. Lazard, 56, died in his home on Monday, August 2, 2004 following a progressive, 13-year illness with a rare, debilitating neurological disorder known as Lewy Body Dementia. Born at University Hospitals in Cleveland, he lived exclusively in Lakewood, graduating from LHS in 1966, and attended Cleveland State University, majoring in Business Administration, Mr. Lazard’s career path developed at an early age from his fundamental love of people. His self-starter, highly-motivated personality earned him his first boat at the age of 12 as a Plain Dealer paper carrier. His love of all facets of boating was rewarded with skills developed working during junior high and high school at Chuck Marine Supply in Lakewood and as a yacht refinisher at Cleveland Yachting Club while attending college. George’s enthusiasm for water, wind and weather challenged him further while earning his Private Pilot’s license through Sundorph Aeronautical Corp. at Cleveland-Hopkins Airport in his early 20’s. He was gifted with a rare talent for setting personal goals and with persistence and a hard work ethic, he met many such goals – admirable qualities earning his success as a Premium and Promotional Sales Representative locally throughout the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s. He established Popular Products Corporation and Lazard and Associates, firms which generated ad specialty and promotional product sales throughout the Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus, Pittsburgh and Detroit corporate communities. As President and owner, Mr. Lazard carried a long-standing membership in IMRA, Incentive Manufacturer’s Representative Association. He established an embroidery business in which he shared ownership. This business is named Logotec and prospers today at its Industrial Parkway address on Cleveland’s westside. His promotional sales business was purchased in 1997 by The Shamrock Companies of Westlake, Ohio. He joined the Cleveland Yachting Club in 1971 and held many committee chairman positions as well as being a member of their Board of Trustees from 1986 – 1992. Along with his family, he was awarded recognition as Family of the Year in 1992, and named Power Boater of the Year in 1995.
In 1977, the Lazard family located to a lakefront home in Lakewood. Mr. Lazard very ambitiously set a long-range goal for shoreline erosion control. After 3 years of research, knocking on doors, talking with local and federal government officials, and meetings of all dimensions, his brainchild was born...a “unique, innovative” plan of an association of lakefront homeowners’ who could build a breakwall system in a manner untried before. In 1981 a mile long seawall of prefabricated concrete modules were individually placed, along the toe of the bluff beneath a 50 to 60 foot high cliff, by the Campbell Erosion Control of Kirtland, Ohio. Since its’ original installation, the same system was placed in areas such as, Lakewood’s Gold Coast, The Lake House in Rocky River, Linwood Park in Vermilion, Ohio and elsewhere.
Born to George C. and Elizabeth J. Lazard of Lakewood, deceased, and brother of Sue Ann (Lazard) Portman of North Olmsted. Mr. Lazard is survived by his wife of 33 years, Joy (Forbes), and their sons, George Scott, 30, (Kristen) and Peter Thomas, 18. Due to the rare nature of and dedication to further pathological discoveries of Mr. Lazard’s illness, the family would appreciate memorial contributions being forwarded to: The Lewy Body Dementia Association, PO Box 11390, Tempe, Arizona 85284-0024
Funeral service Friday, Aug. 6, at 10:30am in The Bay Presbyterian Church, 25415 Lake Rd. Interment Private. Friends may call at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 21369 CENTER RIDGE RD. FROM 5-8PM THURSDAY. 440-333-9774 Busch Funeral and Cremation Services.
