Henry M. Thompson, 98, went home to the Lord August 8, 2004 following complications of cancer. Mr. Thompson of Avon Lake, formerly of Rocky River, was born July 13, 1906 in Cleveland and had lived in Rocky River for over 30 years, before moving to Independence Village, Avon Lake a year and a half ago.
Mr. Thompson had worked for the Federal Government as an Engineer at the Main Post Office, Cleveland. He served in the US Marine Corp from 1925 to 1929. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Retired Postal Workers and for 30 years belonged to St. Christopher Church, Rocky River. He was described by his family as some one who was fascinated with the way things worked and able to repair anything. He was also described as a quiet, gentle man. He enjoyed reading.
Preceding him in death his wife of 70 years, Gertrude (nee Miller) in 2002. He is survived by daughter, Dolores Blackburn-Rump (Fred); granddaughters Deborah Jean Blackburn and Cheryl Anne Schackt (Kurt); great grandchildren, Claire and Jack Henry; sisters, Emily and Mary and brother Jack. He was the oldest of 14. His parents, Valenty and Mary (nee Worobleski) Tomaszewski, also precede him.
A Prayer Services will be at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME 32000 Detroit Rd. Avon Thursday, August 12 at 9:30am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at Holy Spirit Church, 410 Lear Rd. Avon Lake. Fr. James H. Beatty of the Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Holy Cross cemetery.

Frank Hlebak, age 71, of Parma, beloved Husband of Gwen Hlebak; loving Step-Father of Dan Ezell, Barry Ezell (Kathy), and Melanie Settlemire (Bill); dear Step-Grandfather of Gabby, Hannah, Aubrey, and Halle; dear Brother of the late Evelyn M. Mark Amato - 37, of Avon Lake, formerly of Lorain, passed away, Monday, August 9, 2004 at his home from cancer. Mark was born, February 10, 1967 in Lorain and had lived in Avon Lake the past 10 years.
Mark worked as a Radiology Manager at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria for the past 8 years. He was a graduate of Admiral King High School, Lorain in 1985, continued his education at Providence Hospital Schoo l of Radiologic Technology, Sandusky, graduating in 1987 and then graduated from David Myers University, Lorain in 1996 with a degree in Business Management.
Mark was a member of the Lorain County British Car Club owning a 1972 MGB. He also coached his children's soccer and t-ball teams.
Mark is survived by his wife, Melissa (nee Cabranes) whom he married
, February 6, 1988. Other survivors include his daughter, Cara and son Nicholas, both at home. He is also survived by his parents: Pasquale R. and Linda J. (nee Perrier) Amato of Lorain, brothers: Steven Amato of Lorain and Philip Amato of Lorain and his maternal grandmother Gladys Perrier of Lorain. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Alfred Perrier and paternal grandparents Mike and Nancy Amato.

Eleanor Marie Kelly (nee Betts) 83 of Avon Lake, died Monday, August 9, 2004 in the care of Harbinger Hospice at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Avon, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Kelly was born, November 20, 1920 in Cleveland and was a resident of Avon Lake since moving from Westlake in 1960.
She had been employed at the Electric Cord Set Company, Bay Village. She worked in Food Preparation at the Aquamarine Resort and Restaurant in Avon Lake. She retired from Community Health Partners in 1980 where she had been employed as a Dietary Technician. In retirement, she worked as a cook for the rectory at St. Joseph Parish, Avon Lake.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, the church's Avilas, the Altar and Rosary Society and was a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. She was also a member of the Third Order of St. Francis at St. Anthony's in Lorain. She had lived at Beachpark Tower, Avon Lake and was a member of the Towerettes, a group of seniors that would visit nursing homes and senior centers, where they would sing and perform skits. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, music and being with her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Sheila Grattan of Amherst, sons Timothy Kelly (Barbara) of Macomb, MI, Patrick Kelly of North Olmsted, Daniel Kelly and Thomas "Salty" Kelly (Peggy "Elmer) of Avon Lake. Other survivors include a sister, Minerva Sherwin of Houston, TX; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Peter Kelly, parents Earl and Fanny (nee Kortesniemi) Betts, sisters Olive Barnes and Merle Krawec.
Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake, Wednesday, August 11 from 3-8pm. Prayers service will be at the funeral home, Thursday, August 12 at 10:15am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, 32929 Lake Rd. Avon Lake at 11:00am. Fr.
