Charles W. “Chuck” Ramaley – 80, of Sheffield Lake, formerly of Avon Lake, passed Thursday, March 3, 2005 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Mr. Ramaley was born, January 6, 1925 in Nartrona Heights, Pennsylvania and has lived in the area since 1957.
Mr. Ramaley was owner/CEO of Robert H. Welf and Associates, Cleveland; a company that sells and services industrial batteries. Mr. Ramaley purchased the company in 1977 and was still working at the time of his death.
Mr. Ramaley served from 1943 to 1946 in the United States Marine Corp during WWII. He was stationed mostly in Cherry Point, North Carolina as a RADAR technician. It was at this time he developed his interest in electronics. Following his honorable discharge for the Marine Corp, Mr. Ramaley attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he graduated in 1946 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Mr. Ramaley began his career in 1949, as and electronics instructor at the Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Mississippi. In 1940 he went to work for the United States Government Bureau of Mines as an electronics scientist. In 1952 he worked for Syntron Corporation as a Sales Person in Home City, PA. In 1957 he went to work for Lorain Products as a sales engineer and then sales manager, settling in Avon Lake. In 1976 he moved to Plymouth Meeting, PA where he worked for CND Batteries until purchasing Robert H. Welf and Associate in 1977. It was the purchase of the company that allowed he and his wife to return to North East Ohio.
Mr. Ramaley was a member of Lake Shore United Methodist Church; a member of the church’s Board of Trustees; active in the United Methodist Men and he was a church Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Avon Lake Masonic Lodge, the NRA and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He was described by his family as an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed all spectator sports. In his younger years he played church league softball and enjoyed dancing with his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Alice V. (nee Smith) whom he married
, September 10, 1948. He is also survived by 2 daughters: Charlene Kurko (Jerry) of Norwalk, OH and Linda Ramaley of Lorain and 2 sons: Brian Ramaley (Wava) of North Ridgeville and Blair Ramaley (Claudette) of Sheffield Lake. Other survivors include 6 grandchildren: Jessica DeChant (Tim), Nathan Kurko (Joy), Ian Ramaley, Melissa Ramaley, Terry Toth (Brian) and Denna Stump (Malin); 4 great grandchildren: Caroline and Daniel DeChant and Joe and Erin Stump, as well as, a brother Lawrence “Dutch” Ramaley in Indiana and sister Vera Heffran (Vern) of Toledo. He is preceded in death by his parents: William R. and Vera A. (nee Hidinger); a sister Margaret Toy and 2 brothers: James Ramaley and John Ramaley.
Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake Saturday, March 5 from 2:00–4:00 and 7:00-9:00pm and Sunday, March 6, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00pm. Funeral Services will be Monday, March 7 at 10:00am at Lake Shore United Methodist Church, 33119 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake. Dr. Charles A. Peal of the Church will officiate. Sheffield Village, OH - Sandra Ann Hannan (nee Stephens), age 66, of Sheffield Village, Ohio passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain after a lengthy illness following several strokes. She was born November 6, 1938 in Cramerton, North Carolina and was raised in Miami, Florida where she graduated from Hialeah High School in 1957. She moved to Lorain from Miami when her husband was transferred with the Coast Guard in 1969 and moved to Sheffield Village in 1971. Mrs. Hannan was employed as a school bus driver for Sheffield and Sheffield Lake Schools before retiring. She enjoyed reading, classic movies and traveling with her husband.
Mrs. Hannan is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jack Neal Hannan; five sons, Tom (Maureen) of Streetsboro; Bob of Georgia; Jimmy (Wic) of Sunnyvale, California; Steve (Tammy) of Lorain and Bill of Sheffield Village; and a daughter, Jackie Faulkner (Gary) of Sheffield Lake; eight grandchildren and a brother, Greg Stephens of Miami, Florida. She was predeceased by her father, Alvin Stephens; mother Mary C. McElhinney (nee Bolden) and her step-father, Charles McElhinney.
Friends may call at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 32000 Detroit Rd. Avon from 2-4 and 6-8pm Sunday. Services will be held at the funeral home Monday, March 7 at 11:00am.
