Norbert F. Werner
March 11, 1919 - April 7, 2004

Norbert F. Werner, for 30 years the claims manager for the St. Paul Insurance Companies and later Weston Hurd Fallon Paisley & Howley, died suddenly at his home in Rocky River last week. He was 85.+ Mr. Werner was born in the family home in Cleveland at 1919 West 45th Street in 1919. He attended St. Patrick's School, graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1937, and began his studies at John Carroll University. They were interrupted by World War II. He entered the Army in January, 1942 and rose to the rank of major by the time of his discharge in 1945. He served in the European theatre. Returning to Cleveland, he married Joan Lee in 1945 and resumed his studies at John Carroll, graduating in 1946. He then began working his way through night law school at Cleveland Marshall, graduating in 1950. He was promoted from adjuster to claims manager at the St. Paul Companies and worked 30 years as claims manager. On retiring he began a second career as Of Counsel to the law firm of Weston Hurd Fallon Paisley & Howley, where he worked for 20 years. Mr. Werner was an avid golfer and a member of Spring Valley Country Club. In March, 2004, while golfing with friends in Florida, he shot his age with an 85. He was a member of the Cleveland Bar Association for more than 50 years, was an usher at St. Christopher's Church for 50 years, and was a past Grand Knight and active member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his older brother, Clyde, his sister-in-law, Isabel Lee, his two sons, Robert of Stratford, Connecticut, and Dan, his daughter-in-law, Rosemary Sheehan, and his two grandchildren Rory and Ryan, all of Dallas, Texas.
As a tribute to Norb Werner, the Werner Family respectfully requests donations in lieu of flowers. We are establishing a Memorial Fund in his name at his and our high school Alma Mater, St. Ignatius High School, 1911 West 30th St., Cleveland, Ohio 44113 so that others may benefit from his life.
Norb’s Funeral Service will begin with a prayer service in the funeral home Saturday, April 17, at 9am with the Mass of Christian Burial in St. Christopher Church, 20141 Detroit Rd., at 9:30am. ZEPHRYHILLS, FL – James Richard Whitmore, 80, of Zephryhills, Florida and formerly of Avon passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at the Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center in Florida. He was born April 24, 1923 in Cleveland and lived in Avon for 52 years before moving to Florida 18 years ago. During World War II he served in the Army in Italy and France. He was employed as a graphic artist and production manager for Sherwin Williams, Cleveland before retiring. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Florida and Faith Lutheran Church in Avon. Mr. Whitmore is survived by his wife, Virginia Ann (nee Brandt); two daughters, Betty Pszenitzki of Big Prairie, Ohio and Ann Ramsier of Avon Lake, Ohio; a son, Kenneth Whitmore of Avon and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David Whitmore, parents William S. and Annie E. Whitmore (nee Slater) and a sister.
Graveside services will be held Monday April 19, 2004 at Lakewood Park cemetery, 22025 Detroit Rd. Rocky River at 1:00pm. Rev. Roger Daene of Faith Lutheran Church will officiate. Memorials may be forwarded to Hernando-Pasco Hospice, 37300 Royal Oak Lane, Dade City, FL 33525. Arrangements are being handled by the BUSCH-BURMEISTER FAMILY CHAPEL, 32000 Detroit Rd. Avon.

James W. Denton

James W. Denton – 76 of Avon Lake, passed away Tuesday, April 06, 2004, at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a lengthy Illness. Mr. Denton was born, September 9, 1927 in Rumsey, KY.
Mr. Denton was a graduate of Calhoun High School in Kentucky and graduated from Cleveland State University, Cleveland.
He served with the US Army during both WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 211, Avon Lake.
He was employed in the engineering department of Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company for 36 years, retiring in 1987. Following his retirement he helped raise funds for the United Way of Lorain County as a representative for 16 years.
He served on the Foundation Board of St. Joseph Hospital, Lorain Community/St. Joseph Regional Health Center and currently was Chairman of the Foundation Board of Trustees of Community health Partners.
He was a charter member of Lake Shore United Methodist Church, Avon Lake. He was a member and Past Master of Free and Accepted Masons, Mid-Century Lodge #725. He was a 32nd degree Mason in the A.A.S.R., Valley of Cleveland. He was a member of Royal Arch Masons, Council and Commandery and was a Knight of the York Cross of Honor, Prior #18. He was a member of Al Koran Shrine, O.E.S. #479, Jester Court 14, Lorain County Shrine Club and Lorain County Fire Brigade.
Mr. Denton is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeryl R. (nee Chipman); daughters: Sandra Stuart (Thomas) of North Ridgeville and Candyce Denton of Amherst and grandchildren: Rachel Jones and Michael Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe T. and Wilda Irene (nee Hatcher) Denton.
Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake, Friday, April 9 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Masonic Service will be held at the funeral home Friday evening at 7:30pm. Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 10 at Lake Shore United Methodist Church, 33119 Electric Blvd. Avon Lake at 11:00am. Dr. Charles A. Peal of the church will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted.
