Jerry A. Strickler - age 54, of Elyria, and formerly of Wellington, OH, passed away early Saturday, August 7, 2004 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born in 1950 in Lorain, OH and graduated from Clearview High School, Class of 1969. He served in the US Army from 1970-72, stationed in Germany.
Jerry was employed as a machine operator for Whirlaway Corporation in Wellington with 3 years of service. He was a member of the Alliance of Transylvania Saxons-Branch #5 of Lorain. He was a charter member of the Cleveland Browns Backers. He was baptized and confirmed at St John United Church of Christ in Lorain. Jerry enjoyed woodworking, was a handyman, as well as, a sports enthusiast. He was an avid Cleveland Indians and Browns fan.
Jerry is survived by his companion of 15 years, Christine “Lynn” Lowery; a daughter Tracie Strickler of Elyria; his parents, Harry Strickler of Vermilion and Kate Thompson of Lorain; sisters Elaine Johnson of Elyria, Karen Cassidy of Lorain, Nancy Kranstube of Madison, OH, Penny Shreve and Heidi Strickler, both of Vermilion; a brother Bill Strickler of Palm Harbor, FL; 10 nieces and nephews; many Aunts, Uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Robert Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 10 at 11:00am. Rev. Jim Cooper, Senior Pastor of Harbortown Community Church in Vermilion, and Rev. Heidi Strickler, staff minister at Harbortown Community Church, will co-officiate. Interment will be at RidgeHill Memorial Park in Amherst Township, OH where military honors will be performed by VFW Post #1079 of Elyria.Friends may call at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 114 Second Street in Elyria from 4-8pm Monday.

Toda N. Christ (nee Nastovski) - age 93, of Avon Lake, passed away Friday, August 6 at St John Westshore Hospital in Westlake, OH following a short illness. She was born in 1911 in Tetovo, Macedonia and married
in 1929 and came to America. The couple resided in Cleveland until the early 1940’s, moved to Avon Lake in 1942 and started a fruit farm. In 1945, they purchased property on Walker Road and started the Christ Winery. Toda enjoyed sewing, embroidery, vegetable and flower gardening, cooking and baking. She was a member of St Clement of Ohrid Macedonia Orthodox Church in Avon.
She is survived by a son, Alex Christ (wife, Zora) of Avon Lake; 2 grandchildren Debra Martin (husband, Jeffrey) and John Alex Christ; 2 great-grandchildren; 6 God-children and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Christ (in 1986), a son Andrew Christ (in 1980), 2 brothers Ivan and Slave, 2 sisters Nora and Blaga, and her parents, Stefan and Tasa Nastovski.
Funeral services will be held at the Funeral Home Monday, August 9 at 10:30AM. Interment at Lakewood Park cemetery in Rocky River, OH. Friends may call at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 32000 Detroit Road in Avon from 2-4 and 7-9pm Sunday.

Rita Patricia Maguire (nee Hartigan) – 80 of Avon passed away, Friday, August 6 at the Kobacker Hospice House, Columbus, OH follow complications of a stroke. Mrs. Maguire was born, February 12, 1924 in Bethlehem PA and had lived in Avon since 1954. She was a 1942 graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School and served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946.
She had worked as an aide at Our Lady of the Wayside Children’s Home for 15 years. She was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, Avon. She bowled in the Scratch League at Aqua Marine Lanes, Avon Lake and golfed at Bob-O-Link Golf Course, Avon.
Her husband Harry A., whom she married
, December 14, 1946 died August 8, 1982. She is survived by her two sons, Patrick D. Maguire (Kathy) of New Albany, OH and David N. Maguire of Circleville, OH. She is also survived 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a special person whom she cared for, Nina Dempsey.
Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by two brothers, James Hartigan and Francis Hartigan and her parents, David and Florence (nee Moran) Hartigan.
Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Rd. Avon from 10:00am to 12:15pm, Tuesday, August 10. A prayer service will be at the funeral home at 12:15pm Tuesday, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, 2640 Stoney Ridge Rd., Avon at 1:00pm. Fr.
