Hazel C. Stevens (nee McClearnon), formerly Hazel C. Nealon - 92 of Avon Lake, formerly of Cleveland, passed away, Tuesday, June 1 at Lorain Manor, Lorain, following a short illness. Mrs. Stevens was born, November 26, 1911 in Cleveland and had lived with her daughter for 5 years prior to moving to Lorain Manor.
Mrs. Stevens was a member of the Cleveland Musicians' Union for over 50 years. She played various instruments, but mostly bass fiddle with many area bands and orchestras. She also worked as a private music instructor. She was a member of St. Marks Church, Cleveland. In her younger years she enjoyed boating and fishing, however, her family said that "Music was her life".
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon D. Wing (Tom) of Strongsville and Kathleen T. Kelly of Avon Lake. She is also survived by three grandchildren; Colleen Graff, Daniel T. Kelly, Jr. and Kyle W. Kelly. She was preceded in death by her first husband William A. Nealon and her second husband Casimir Stevens. She is also preceded in death by two step sons; Casimir Stevens and Dr. Ned Stevens.

Valentine J. Janicek – 78 of Leesburg, Florida, formerly of Avon Lake, passed away, suddenly, Monday, May 31 at Florida Hospital – Waterman, Traveres, Florida. Mr. Janicek was born, January 26, 1926 in Landsford, Pennsylvania and had lived in Avon Lake for over 50 years, prior to moving to Leesburg 9 years ago.
Mr. Janicek worked as a Tool and Die Maker for River Mold and Die and then for General Motors, Elyria, where he worked for 15 years. Mr. Janicek was a member of St. Joseph Church, Avon Lake, where he sang in the Choir and in Florida a member of St. Mary’s of the Lakes, Eustis, FL, where he was a member of the Men’s Coral Group. He was a member of the United Autoworkers Union. He enjoyed playing cards, working in the yard and helping those in his retirement community by fixing and repairing things.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor B. (nee Bohac), whom he married
, October 28, 1950. Other survivors include 3 daughters: Monica Schnitz (James) of Leesburg, FL; Marla Benik (Michael) of Melbourne, FL and Julie Arnold (James) of LaGrange, OH; 4 sons: Valentine Janicek, Jr. (Diane) of Avon Lake; Anthony Janicek (Pamela) of Avon Lake; Ronald Janicek (Linda) of Collins, OH and Joseph Janicek (Deborah) of Avon Lake. He is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 6 sisters: Alma Morana of Hazelton, PA; Sarah Iacabucci of Rochester, NY; Stephanie Jasenak of Mansfield, OH; Rose Horwedel of Kinsman, OH, and Bernadine Plocinik of Coalsdale, PA. He is preceded in death by a daughter: Carole Janicek; sister: Margaret Matula and his parents: Valentine F. and Rose (nee Konecny) Janicek.

Avon, OH - Wilcox, William Ernest, age 76, of Avon, passed away Monday May 31, 2004 at Life Care Center of Medina following a four month illness. He was born September 2, 1927 in Lakewood and was a 1945 graduate of Lakewood High School and attended Kent State University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948. William was self-employed for Wilcox and Associates as a manufacturer’s representative for forty years. Mr. Wilcox was a 32nd Degree Mason with a Lakewood Lodge. He enjoyed boating and golfing. He moved to Avon from Bay Village two years ago.
Mr. Wilcox is survived by a daughter, Kathy Haaning (Kurt) of Fishers, Indiana and a son, Jim Wilcox (Karen) of Avon Lake; four grandchildren, Kaitlin, Ryan, Kyle and Casey. He was preceded in death in March by his wife Jacqueline F. (nee Swilik); and by his parents, William Ernest Wilcox, Jr. and Esther Wilcox (nee Kyle).
