AVON LAKE, OH – Jacolyn “Jackie” Ann Benson (nee Clifford), age 57, of Avon Lake passed away Thursday, April 15, 2004 at her home after a courageous fight against cancer. She was born February 17, 1947 in Cleveland and was raised in Avon Lake and moved to Avon upon marrying her husband Neil. She recently moved back to Avon Lake in order to be closer to Lake Erie. After graduation from Avon Lake High School, class of 1965, she worked for New York Life Insurance in Cleveland. After devoting all her time and energy for many years to her first love, her family, she started her own cleaning service. She personally cleaned each client’s home and became friends to all of them. After retiring from her cleaning service, Jackie became an indispensable employee of the Avon Lake Dairy Queen. She was the “heart” of all the delicacies that passed across the counter, and a caring listener for many teenaged co-workers. As First Mate of her family’s boat, Jackie fulfilled her passion for fishing and boating. She could be found on Lake Erie, alongside her husband Neil, at 5:00am reeling in fish.
Mrs. Benson is survived by her husband Neil; a daughter, Jill Benson of Avon; two sons, Joel Benson (Colleen) of Medina and Jeffrey Benson of Avon Lake; her parents, Jack and Betty (nee Marley) Clifford of Avon Lake; a sister, Nancy Albrecht (Skip) of Avon Lake and two brothers, Jim Clifford (Nadia) of Hudson and Scott Clifford (Noreen) of Avon Lake.
