The Rev. Wesley J. Hawes
ELYRIA - The Rev. Wesley J. Hawes, 45, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at EMH Regional Medical Center following a car accident in Eaton Township, Ohio.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Elyria Community Church of the Nazarene, 1107 Clemens Ave., Elyria. Burial will be Evergreen Cemetery in Geneva.
Calling hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Busch Curtis Scheuffer Family Chapel, 114 Second St., Elyria.
Jeanette D. Bovee
SHEFFIELD TOWNSHIP - Jeanette D. Bovee, 48, of Dewey Road in Sheffield Township, died Monday afternoon, July 28, 2003, at her home following a six-month illness.
She was born on February 1, 1955 in Geneva, and was the daughter of George T. and Elizabeth (Kurki) Davis.
Jeanette was a graduate of St. John High School and completed training to become a registered nurse at Hocking Tech. She was employed in the OB unit at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital in Conneaut for 25 years. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and her family, especially taking family vacations.
Survivors include her parents of Sheffield Township; her husband, Dean R. Bovee, whom she married on October 15, 1977; her daughter, Lindsay M. Bovee, and son, Justin R. Bovee, both at home; two sisters, Catherine L. and husband, Kenneth Romine of Reynoldsburg, OH, and Barbara J. and husband, Kim Spencer of Lyons, IN; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and more distant relatives.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Cecile Kurki Dubach, Arne Kurki, and James and Louise R. Davis.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2003, at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut, OH 44030, immediately followed by a service there, officiated by the Rev. Bonnie Habbersett of Kingsville Presbyterian Church.
A time of fellowship will be held following the service at the MARCY FAMILY CENTER, 180 Harbor Street, Conneaut, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for use as a future memorial at Brown Memorial Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Lawrence E. Griggs
SHEFFIELD TOWNSHIP - Lawrence E. Griggs, 66, of Benetka Road, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at his home.
The son of Homer and Nellie (Sackett) Griggs, he was born Aug. 19, 1934, in Conneaut. He was a life-long area resident.
A retired farmer, he also worked for Sheffield Township Road Department, and the former New York Central Railroad.
Mr. Griggs served in the U.S. Marines. He enjoyed gardening, fabricating and fixing farm equipment and machinery. He also enjoyed citizen band radioing with the handle "Old Timer."
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Lindsey of Ashtabula and Susan Fink of Warren; three sons, Larry of Sheffield Township, Jerry of Norfolk, Va. and Bob of Geneva; 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Kenneth Williams, pastor of the Gageville United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Gageville Cemetery.
Calling hours are from noon until 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Patricia A. Spurlock
August 7, 1940 - February 19, 2009

Patricia A. Spurlock, age 68, Hines Rd., Sheffield Twp., died Thursday morning at her residence.
She was born August 7, 1940 in Cleveland, the daughter of Paul & Thelma (Barnes) Bouska and has lived in the Jefferson area the past 45 years, coming from Cleveland. They moved to Jefferson to give their children a better life. Mrs. Spurlock has been employed with the Gazette Newspaper for 12 years.
Mrs. Spurlock was an avid Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan.
Survivors include seven children, Denise (Ron) Palma of Ashtabula, Charles Spurlock of Columbia Station, Darryl Spurlock of Dorset Twp., Patrick Spurlock of Cleveland, Lori (Charles) Bradford of Kingsville Twp., Brian (Phyllis) Spurlock of Cleveland & Jerome (Adina) Spurlock of Jefferson, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a sister, Marlene (Wes) Spurlock & brother, Butch Bouska, both of Cleveland. She also leaves behind many friends, especially those at the Gazette.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Roger in childhood.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Pastor Kenneth Roberts of the Pentecostal Church of God officiating. Burial will be in Griggs Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 6-8 P. M. at the funeral home.
Frank Giangicomo
ELYRIA - Frank Giangicomo, 82, of Elyria, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Life Care Center of Elyria.
He was born Oct. 1, 1919, in Geneva, and had lived in Elyria since 1945.
He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II, and was employed by TRW in Lorain in the maintenance department for many years, retiring in 1982.
He attended services at Beth-el Baptist Church in Elyria, and enjoyed fishing and golfing.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, the former Garnett Trockley; daughters Lynnett "Cricket" Wright of Elyria, Ellen Akins of North Ridgeville, and Lori Youngberg of Wellington; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brothers Peter Giangicomo of Lorain, and Tony Giangicomo of Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jared C. Akins, in 2001; a sister, Julia Rich; and brothers Rose Giangicomo and Felix Giangicomo.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Open Door, West Ridge Road and Route 113, in Elyria. The Rev. Ken Tucker, pastor of Beth-el Baptist Church in Elyria, will officiate.
Calling hour at the church is 10 a.m. Friday until the time of service.
The Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home of Elyria is in charge of arrangements.
Robert C. Stanbery
AVON LAKE - Robert C. Stanbery, 53, of Avon Lake, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Fairview Hospital, Cleveland, following a sudden illness.
Born April 5, 1947, in Conneaut, he was the son of Robert J. and Ruth V. (Miller) Stanbery.
Mr. Stanbery was raised in Ashtabula and was a 1965 graduate of Harbor High School.
He was a 1971 graduate of Ohio State School of Veterinary Medicine, Columbus. He moved to Avon Lake in 1974.
Mr. Stanbery, referred to as Dr. Bob, was in practice at Bay Village Animal Clinic for many years. He enjoyed speaking about animal care to local school children and appearing occasionally on local television.
He was a member of Bay Presbyterian Church in Bay Village, where he was active in the men's Bible study group and was a Sunday school teacher.
He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and at the Catholic Storefront in Cleveland.
He enjoyed golfing and racquetball and was a sports enthusiast.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Connie (Coutts), and two sons, Scott of New Hampshire and Mark of Avon Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Service is 10 a.m. Saturday at Bay Presbyterian Church, 25415 Lake Road, Bay Village, with the Rev. Hubert C. Auburn officiating.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Road, in Avon Lake.
Burial will be private.
