She was born Jan. 10, 1923, in Medina, and was a Bay Village resident for 32 years. She was an active participant in the Bay Village community. Her weekly columns and feature stories on Bay Village people and happenings were a staple of the West Life newspaper for 10 years. She later created the first Bay Village column for the Lorain Journal (now the Morning Journal), which ran for another nine years until her retirement in 1991. Mrs. Neeson graduated from Medina High School and attended Bluffton College. While living in Dayton, she worked as news editor of the Oakwood Press and assistant public relations director of the Dayton Chamber of Commerce.
Mrs. Neeson moved to Bay Village from Dayton with her husband, John "Jack," and four children in 1968 and almost immediately became active in the Bay Village Women's Club. She served as president of the club in 1975 and 1976. She was perhaps most proud of the fact that, during her presidency, she initiated and headed a drive for a charter amendment to purchase the first paramedic unit for the City of Bay Village. This ballot initiative resoundingly passed in November 1976. It was because of her leadership, dedication and hard work that the paramedic unit was initially created, giving Bay Village access to one of the first paramedic units in the West Shore area. Mrs. Neeson was transported to Fairview Hospital on Wednesday, March 8, by the Bay Village Paramedic Unit after having been cared for in her home for a year by her children and close family friends.
Mrs. Neeson also was an active member of the Bay United Methodist Church and was a trustee of the church for several years in the mid 1990s. As a trustee for the Bay Interfaith Housing Corporation, she served on the Board of Trustees for the Knickerbocker Apartments for Senior Living, also located in Bay Village. She was secretary of the board for one year.
With a great interest in genealogy, Mrs. Neeson was active in the Martha Devotion Huntington Chapter, Daughters of the Revolution. She also was an organizing president of Henry Brooks Chapter, Colonial Dames, which was named after one of Mrs. Neeson's ancestors. Her hobbies were antiques, finding bargains at garage sales, reading, walking and travel, especially with her children.
Mrs. Neeson is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Robin of Westfield Center, and Michael and Eva of North Olmsted; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Charles Wochna; daughter, Margaret "Peg" Neeson of Bay Village; grandchildren, Christopher Patrick Neeson, Charles Daniel Neeson, Caitlin Elizabeth Wochna, and Jacob Charles Wochna; sister, Patricia Dean of Painesville; and brother, Max M.
