Catherine Harris
Catherine Harris, 92, of Medina, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Life Care Center of Medina.
She was born in Duryea, Pa., and resided in Lakewood before moving to Medina 22 years ago. Mrs. Harris was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Medina. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for relatives and cooking special meals for her family. She was a past committee member at North View Manor Senior Complex in Medina, where she helped with the planning of dinners and events for the residents.
Mrs. Harris is survived by her daughter, Catherine (Kay) Dumperth of Valley City; grandchildren, Kathy (Roger) Buhovecky of Valley City, Christian Dumperth of Columbus and Richard (Lora) Dumperth of Chatham Township; great-grandchildren, Justin, Brent, Adam and Brooke; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Victoria Apolski; husband, Jerome Harris; sister, Ann; brothers, Edward, Walter, John and Peter; and son-in-law, Christian Dumperth.
Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 606 E. Washington St., Medina, for the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. today.
Burial: Elmhurst Cemetery, Avon.
There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to a charity of the donor's choice.

Frank H. Rice
Frank H. Rice Jr., 66, of Zellwood, Fla., formerly of Spencer, passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Winter Park Memorial Hospital in Winter Park, Fla., following a five-month illness.
He was born Dec. 5, 1934, in Spencer to Frank and Pearl VonBoxel Rice and was a lifelong resident before moving to Florida one year ago. Mr. Rice retired from Columbia Gas Transmission following 30 years of service. He served as a Spencer Township clerk for 17 years. He was a member of Spencer United Methodist Church, 10-year member of Rural Water Board, Litchfield Masonic Lodge 608 F&AM, Spencer Knights of Pythias 738, Wellington Eagles, Medina Moose Lodge and past member of Spencer Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Tasula; daughter, Charlotte (Raymond) Hall of Indianapolis; sons, Douglas Rice of Wellington, Tracy (Julie) Shirk of Elyria, Mark (Marcia) Shirk of Tampa, Fla., Bill (Sue) Shirk of Atlanta and Steve (Nilvia) Shirk of Mount Plymouth, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, George; brother, Francis; and nephew, Gerald.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Parker & Son Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St., Spencer. The Rev. James Ellison of Spencer will officiate.
Burial: Spencer Cemetery.

Boyd M. Weaver
Boyd M. Weaver, 86, of Medina, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Life Care Center of Medina.
He was born in Brownfield, Pa., to Jesse and Bessie (nee Keener) Weaver and lived in Ida May, W.Va., for many years before retiring to Florida in 1970. Mr. Weaver then moved to Ohio in 1999. He was a coal miner and worked for Bethlehem Steel in West Virginia. He was a member of Moose Lodge and Eagles in West Virginia, where he held several office positions. While in Florida, he worked as a surveyor. He enjoyed bowling and gardening.
Mr. Weaver is survived by his daughters, Phyllis Hess of Marietta, Ga., Rosemary Gumont of Spring Hill, Fla., Mrs. Bernard (Loretta) Pyles of Streetsboro and Mrs. Thomas (Cheri) Weaver of Fond du Lac, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred (nee Ashcraft) Weaver; two grandchildren; and sisters, Ruth Keller and Emma Czewinchski.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road, Valley City.

William C. Branch
William C. Branch, 73, of Brunswick, passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, in Middleburg Heights.
Mr. Branch was born May 9, 1928, in Louisville, Ky. He was a resident of Medina County for 35 years. Mr. Branch worked as a salesman for Jewel Tea Co. and served in the Navy in World War II and Korea.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Branch (nee Shook) of Brunswick; daughters, Jenda Cotton of New York and Christie (Gregory) Lightcap of Brunswick; sons, John (Nemia) Branch of St. Louis, Mo., Jamie (Mare) Branch of Oregon and Scott Cummings of Brunswick; mother, Ethel Branch (nee Pickerell) of Kentucky; and brother, Jack (Norma) Branch of Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his father, William C. Branch Sr.

Walter F. Vanzile
Walter F. Vanzile, 89, of Lodi, passed away Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, in Banning, Calif.
He was born Oct. 30, 1912, in Wayne County and was a Medina County resident for 15 years. He was a foreman and superintendent for Wooster Brush Co. and a member of Grace Baptist Church in Brunswick.
Mr. Vanzile is survived by his daughter, Eva (Gene) McNeely of Creston; son, Richard C. (Phyllis) Vanzile of Cabazon, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mabel Carr of Ashland and Florence Chance of Michigan; and brother, Harry Vanzile of Wooster.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; daughter, Eleanor; brothers, Paul and Donald; grandson, Patrick McNeely; and great-grandchildren, Toni and William Carlyle and David Freeman.
Service: Noon on Thursday at Grace Baptist Church, 3289 Laurel Road, Brunswick. Pastor Richard Powers will officiate.

Sue Grundy
Sue Grundy (nee Russell), 60, of Homer Township, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at Lodi Community Hospital.
She was born in Chillicothe on April 4, 1941, to Lewis and Janette Pierce Russell and resided in Homer for the past 30 years. Mrs. Grundy graduated from Chillicothe High School and later Kentucky Baptist School of Nursing in Louisville, Ky. She worked as a registered nurse and also for Camelot Printing in Lodi and Medina. She attended Christ the Cornerstone Community Church.
Mrs. Grundy is survived by her husband, Grant, whom she married Sept. 5, 1964; daughter, Charleen (Dozier) Hendershot of Homer; son, George of Homer; granddaughter, McKenzie; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Gladys Taylor; and brother, Charles Russell.
Service: 7 p.m. Saturday at Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi. Pastor Bob Gault will officiate.

Grace E. Henninger
Grace E. Henninger, 89, of Brunswick, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, in Middleburg Heights.
She was born Aug. 30, 1912, in Meadville, Pa., and was a Medina County resident for nine years. Mrs. Henninger was a homemaker. She was the oldest member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and was a member of Trin-A-Dears and the Board of Ecumenical Church Women in Brunswick.
Mrs. Henninger is survived by her daughters, Joyce (Phillip) Garner and Donna (Larry) Schwering, both of Brunswick; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Henninger; granddaughter, Layne Garner; parents, Truman Harrington and Grace Harrington (nee Faust); sisters, Dorothy Calvin and Jeanette Rohrer; and brothers, Harold and Donald Harrington.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1600 Pearl Road, Brunswick. Pastor Scott Henderson will officiate.

Carroll D. Diehl
Carroll D. Diehl passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001.
He was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, and was a resident of Medina for the past 25 years. He retired from the FAA Cleveland office in 1985 as a safety/maintenance inspector with a total of 14 years of service. He was a member of the Ohio Air National Guard 164th Fighter Squadron in Mansfield from 1948 to 1952 and of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Mr. Diehl served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater.
He is survived by his wife, Louise (nee Smith); daughters, Diane (David) Cartwright of Big Bear Lake, Calif., and Pat (Carl) Ritterspach and Carman (Ken) Young, both of Medina; son, Stephen Diehl of New York City; grandchildren, David Jr., Michael and Stephanie Cartwright, Zachary, Rebecca and Adam Ritterspach, and Jourdan and Kurt Young; and brothers, Merrill of Green Valley, Ariz., and Clyde of Mount Vernon.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 606 E. Washington St., Medina. Father Stephen Kaminski will officiate.
