Donald G. Metter
Donald G. Metter, 66, of Brunswick, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at the Cleveland Clinic after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Cleveland and was a Brunswick resident for 40 years. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, past grand knight and member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4847, Brunswick 3505 Eagles and social member of Brunswick VFW Post 9520. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, camping and loved his yard work. Mr. Metter was a custodian at Highland schools and Polaris JVS. He was a Brunswick Transit System driver and worked for Carlson Funeral Homes. In addition, he was a bus driver for Brunswick City Schools and a heavy equipment operator specialist at Terex.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carlotta (nee Pesek) of Brunswick; sister, Helen Kollmorgan of Cleveland; mother-in-law, Ethel Pesek of Cleveland; and brothers-in-law, Stanley Pesek of Salem, Va., Robert Pesek of Shelby Township, Mich., and Dennis Pesek of Cleveland. His extended families included the Butler and Szill families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen Metter; sister, Helen Ballasch; and brother, Walter.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 929 Pearl Road, Brunswick.
Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, Valley City.
Visiting hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Carlson, A Golden Rule Funeral Home, 1642 Pearl Road, Brunswick.

Frank S. Zwolsky
Frank S. Zwolsky, 81, of Medina, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Medina General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Palanka, Yugoslavia, and was a Medina County resident for 13 years, formerly of Cleveland. Mr. Zwolsky enjoyed gardening, reading, writing and his granddaughters. He was a tailor all his working life and worked in the men's clothing department of Halle Bros. Department Store in Cleveland until retiring in 1982.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anna (nee Fritz) of Medina; son, Donald (Louise) Zwolsky of Medina; and granddaughters, Jessica and Amanda.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Frances.
Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Carlson Funeral Home, 3477 Medina Road (one-half mile west of Interstate 71), Medina.
Burial: St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Medina.
Visiting hours: 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Wallace E. Bixby Jr.
Wallace E. Bixby Jr., 76, of Medina, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Ohio Pythian Sisters Home of Medina.
He was born on Sept. 11, 1924, in Berea and was formerly of Lakewood. Mr. Bixby was a graduate of Cleveland Institute of Art (1950s) and a co-founder of the Cleveland Traditional Jazz Society. Mr. Bixby worked as a graphic artist in Cleveland for many years and spent his retirement in Medina to be close to his brother and family. He was a major fan of jazz music and photographed many jazz stars, such as Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday and Gene Krupa, who performed in Cleveland clubs in the 1950s. Mr. Bixby later donated those photos to the Cleveland Public Library. He had exhibits of his work at the Medina County District Library and Tri-C Metro. He continued his art in retirement and was honored by the Medina Post Office in 1996 with their choosing of his design for the cancellation stamp for the U.S. Postal Service commemorating "Great Band Leaders." Mr. Bixby also was a part-time cartoonist. He served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II from 1943 to 1946.
He is survived by his brother, James A. Bixby of Medina; nephews, Jeff Bixby of Cincinnati, David Bixby of Derwood, Md., and Bruce Bixby of Dalton, Pa.; and nieces, Jody Doyle of Defiance, Nancy Jones of Dalton and Laura Bogdanski of Medina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace E. and Marie Bixby, and brother, Leon.
Private family services will be held.
Burial: Lakewood Park Cemetery.

George O. Hutton
George O. Hutton, 74, of Chippewa Lake, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at the Medina County Home.
He was born on May 20, 1926, in Cedar Grove, W.Va., to Noah and Jessie (nee Hackney) Hutton. Mr. Hutton was retired from Chevrolet after 26 years of service. He was a member of Triangle Baptist Church in Chippewa Lake.
Mr. Hutton is survived by his stepson, Jim (Della) Watkins of Cleveland, and brother, Jack (Vivian) Hutton of West Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline (nee Wallace); three brothers; and one sister.
Service: 11 a.m. today at Triangle Baptist Church, Chippewa Lake.
Burial: Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Wadsworth.
Stanley T. Wood
Stanley T. Wood, 80, of Medina, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Akron General Hospital.
He was born on March 17, 1921, in Needham, Mass., and was a Medina County resident since 1958. Mr. Wood was a sales representative for the Stanley Works of Britain, Conn. He was an avid woodworker, furniture maker and golfer. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a Veteran of Foreign Wars. Family and friends will remember Stanley for his wit and humor.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy B. Stanley (nee Bergstrom) of Medina; sons, Fred Wood of Seminole, Fla., Peter (Patty) Wood of Fairlawn, Paul Wood of Biddeford, Maine, and Roger (Katie) Wood of Naperville, Ill.; and grandchildren, Eric, Carly, Kyle, Andy and Joey.
He was preceded in death by his son, Mark; sister, Marjorie Cooke; and brother, David.
Service: 11 a.m. Monday at Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court St. The Rev. Dr. Ted Elsenheimer will officiate.

Phillip R. Barnes
Phillip R. Barnes, 59, passed away Monday, May 7, 2001, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a graduate of Zanesville High School and Otterbein College. He was a commercial real estate broker, operating his own company as chairman of Prudential Barnes Commercial Group. He was recognized as a leader in the profession and served as president of the Cleveland Area Board of Realtors and Ohio Association of Realtors. He received many awards for his work, including Realtor of the Year and Commercial Realtor of the Year. Phil most recently served as chairman of the Realtors Political Action Committee for the National Association of Realtors. The Ohio Association of Realtors recognized his contributions to the profession by initiating the annual Phillip R. Barnes Realtors Political Action Committee Achievement Award and honoring him as the first recipient.
Phil participated and volunteered for civic and school-related activities, including keeping the time clock for the Medina Bees High School football team. He was a Boy Scout leader and Methodist Youth Fellowship adviser. He enjoyed his 14 grandchildren and was an avid golfer and hunter. He liked to spend time woodworking in his shop.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sue; daughters, Bonnie (Bill) Meadows, Becky (Dan) Harris and Jenny (Bill) Doraty; son, Jeff (Shannon) Barnes; grandchildren, Jordan, Jessica, Sam, Jack, Molly and Marie Meadows, Adam, Alex and Andrew Harris, Meghan, Katherine and Mitchell Doraty, and Norah and Sophia Barnes; father, Jack Barnes of Zanesville; sister, Judy Zinn of Zanesville; mother-in-law, Susan Seidel of Medina; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful friends, John and Marie Reali of Avon Lake.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen (Brown) Barnes, and sister, Linda (Barnes) Bunting.

Gabriela I. Cruz
Gabriela Irene Cruz was stillborn at Medina General Hospital on Tuesday, May 8, 2001.
Gabriela was the daughter of Luis and Donna Hall Cruz of Medina.
In addition to her parents, Gabriela is survived by her sisters, Miranda and Marissa Comstock of Ashland, Olivia Cruz of Medina and twin sister, Matiana Cruz of Medina; brother, Kevin Comstock of Ashland; maternal grandmother, Cora Hall of Ashland; paternal grandparents, J.R. and Irene Cruz of Guadalajara, Mexico; and several aunts, uncles and cousins of Ashland and Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Eligha Hall, in 1997.
A private service will be held today at Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home, 313 Center St., Ashland. James A. Kaniecki will officiate.
Burial: Ashland Cemetery.
Lola Mae Hall Dicus
Lola Mae Hall Dicus, 72, of Brunswick, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2001, in Medina.
She was born June 4, 1928, in Crossville, Tenn., and was a Brunswick resident for 45 years. She was a member of Church of Christ in Medina. Mrs. Dicus was a homemaker.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Dicus of Brunswick; sisters, Zenia Roberts of Pikeville, Tenn., and Alice Garrett of Crossville; and nieces, Janice Barnes of Monroe, Mich., Sue Kerley of Ashland City, Tenn., and Linda Smith of Crossville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard W. Dicus, in 1981.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Brunswick Chapel, 3300 Center Road (state Route 303 at Interstate 71). James Barnes, minister from Church of Christ in Monroe, Mich., will officiate.

Larry L. Franks
Larry L. Franks, 61, of Burbank, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Lodi Community Hospital following a sudden illness.
He was born Sept. 29, 1939, in West Salem to Donald and E. Maxine (Ickes) Franks and made his home in Burbank for 31 years. Mr. Franks graduated from Northwestern High School in 1957. He worked at Baker Sand and Gravel for the past 28 years. Mr. Franks was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served in the Army.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet (nee Haas), whom he married on June 21, 1964; son, Randy Franks of the home; daughters, Michelle (Bill) Vance and Susan (Jim) Harris, both of Burbank, and Rhonda (Sam) Morris of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Zachary and Kaitlyn Vance, Amanda, Tyann, Shawna, Matthew and Brock Morris, and Justin, Amy and Cordell Harris; brother, Kenneth Franks of Wooster; and father-in-law, Carl Haas of Burbank.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Karen.
Service: 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Revs. Kristin McKinley and Melvin Browning will officiate.
Interment: Burbank Cemetery.

Bonette A. Papp
Bonette Aldine Papp, 74, of Grafton, passed away Thursday May 10, 2001, at Elyria Memorial Hospital R.M.C. after a sudden illness.
She was born Nov. 21, 1926, in Reynoldsville, Pa., and lived in the Grafton area for 30 years. She was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church for many years. Mrs. Papp was employed by Bendix Westinghouse in Elyria as a secretary until her retirement in the mid-'80s. For many years, she helped run the family business, Regis Industrial Supply, with her husband, Andrew. Mrs. Papp was a past matron of Lyndon Chapter 361 Order of Eastern Star in Lagrange, a member of American Legion Post 12, Order of the Moose in Elyria and Grafton VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 3341 in Grafton. She enjoyed traveling all over the world.
Mrs. Papp is survived by her husband, Andrew, to whom she was married for 30 years; daughter, Sherrill Wilson of Wellington; sister, Gwen Ketcham of Wellington; and brother, Jim Butler of Apopka, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Aldine Butler.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Blackburn Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton. The Rev. Mark Cannon, pastor of Lagrange United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Burial: Ridge Hill Memorial Garden, Amherst.
