Joseph Shadley
Joseph "Kip" Shadley, 53, of West Salem, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Medina General Hospital.
He was born April 17, 1948, in Lodi to Jesse and Lillian (Thompson) Shadley. He was employed at Owens Corning in Medina. Mr. Shadley graduated from Northwestern High School in 1966. He was a member of the James Stevenson American Post 499 of West Salem. Mr. Shadley served in the Army during the Vietnam era, stationed in Korea.
He is survived by his mother; stepfather, Carl "Bud" Whitcomb; and brother, Tim (Vickie) Shadley of West Salem.
He was preceded in death by his father, and brother, Tommy Shadley.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Matteson Funeral Home, 40 Congress St., West Salem. Pastor Raymond Miller will officiate.
Interment: West Salem Cemetery.

Donald W. Dearth Sr.
Donald W. Dearth Sr., 81, of Lodi, passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at Meadowview Care Center, Seville.
He was born Dec. 7, 1920, in Chatham Township to Aaron and Freeda Bonam Dearth and lived his whole life in Medina County. Mr. Dearth was head custodian at Lodi Elementary School for 22 years. He worked at Spencer Manufacturing Co. during the war years and also at the North Printery in Lodi.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (nee Sewell), to whom he was married 62 years; sons, Donald Dearth of Lodi, Walter (Jackie) Dearth of Wooster and David (Vickie) Dearth of Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Nellie Maszgay of Lafayette Township, Alice (Harry) Cash and Irene McKenzie, both of Lodi, and Mildred Christman of Woodsfield, Ohio; and sister-in-law, June (Robert) Dearth of Lodi.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Depew; parents; sister, Mae Williams; brothers, Floyd, Paul, James, Carl and Robert; and brother-in-law, William McKenzie.
Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi. The Rev. Robert Holmes will officiate.
Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery, Lodi.
Visiting hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Helen M. Nannfeldt
Helen Marie Nannfeldt (nee McEwen), 91, formerly of Lynbrook, N.Y., has passed away.
She was the loving mother of William George (Sandra) of Hinckley Township; grandmother of Scott, Dana, Jeffrey and Sean Lawless and Benjamin and Barbara Nannfeldt; great-grandmother of Kara and Kimberly; and mother-in-law of Richard.
Mrs. Nannfeldt was preceded in death by her husband, Nils George; daughter, Marie A. Lawless; and parents, William and Marie.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Inurnment: Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.

Dorothy B. Williams
Dorothy B. Williams, 84, passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at Calusa Harbor, Fort Myers, Fla., where she lived the past six years.
Mrs. Williams was born in Spencer and lived most of her life there before moving to Medina for eight years. She then moved to Fort Myers. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spencer.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol L. Firestone of Fort Myers; granddaughter, Michele L. Pelot of North Canton; great-granddaughter, Renée Nicole Pelot of North Canton; and grandson, Michael S. Firestone of Tampa, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lorn Williams.
Interment will be in Spencer at a later date.
National Cremation Society handled arrangements.
Claude Woodall
Claude "Woody" Woodall, 71, of Chippewa Lake, passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at his home.
He was born in Flatwoods, W.Va., and was a Medina County resident for 26 years. Mr. Woodall was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his ATVs. He enjoyed working on old tractors. Mr. Woodall retired as conductor and brakeman for the railroad, having worked for them for 39 years. He served in the Navy during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Eloise Woodall of Chippewa Lake; daughter, Janet Woodall of Chippewa Lake; son, Keith (Trish) Woodall of North Royalton; sisters, Norma Culver of Point Pleasant, W.Va., and Laura Brown of Flatwoods; and grandson, Douglas Woodall.
He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Sr., and his mother, Pearl.
Service: 1 p.m. Thursday at Armstrong-Waite Funeral Home, state Route 3, Seville. The Rev. James Patterson will officiate.
Burial: Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.

Barbara J. Alspach
Barbara JoAnne Homan Alspach, 69, of Litchfield Township, passed away Monday, July 30, 2001, at Christian Ministries Hospice in Griffin.
She was a native of Litchfield Township and a Methodist. She was a member of the Lions Club, AARP and a volunteer at the primary school of Lamar Co., assisting teachers.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Alspach, and sons, Tim Alspach of North Royalton, Tom Alspach of Medina and Terry Alspach of Chippewa Lake.
Service: 2 p.m. Friday at Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court St. Chaplain James Hostetler will officiate.
Burial: Litchfield Township Cemetery.

Alan D. Kimble
Alan D. Kimble, 46, of Medina, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, after a tragic accident at the Medina County Fairgrounds.
Alan was born in Lodi to Clyde and Georgia (nee Schultz) Kimble and lived in Medina County all his life. He was a graduate of Buckeye High School and started in the machinist trade following graduation. He worked for the former Mining Machine in Medina for years and was employed at Tiger General in Medina for the past 16 years. Alan enjoyed working on the family farm, Mapleland Farm, and making maple syrup in due season. He was well known for his mechanical skills and spent time restoring antique tractors with his brother Dean.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Liz (nee Paul) of Medina; children, Kevin Kimble of Medina and Katie and Rachel Kimble, both of Medina; mother, Georgia Kimble of Medina; brothers, Dean (Becky) Kimble of Medina and Clyde Russel Jr. (Julia) of Columbiana; and sister, Lynn (Philip) Kemp of Medina. He was the son-in-law of Laurel and Joe Paul of Lodi and brother-in-law of Ray (Joyce) Paul and Jeff (Diana) Paul, both of Medina. Alan also is survived by many nieces and nephews; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Russel Kimble Sr., in July 2001; maternal grandparents, Bernice and Nelson Schultz; and paternal grandparents, Mildred and Virgil Kimble.
Service: 11 a.m. Friday at Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road, Valley City. The Rev. Beulah Knieriem will officiate.
Burial: Litchfield Township Cemetery.

William F. Ols
William F. Ols, 84, of Hinckley Township, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Akron City Hospital after a short illness.
He was born April 13, 1917, in Cleveland and lived in Hinckley for 43 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Hinckley for many years and Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local 33. Mr. Ols was employed by American Ship Building Co., building minesweepers during World War II. In later years, he worked for Duct Fabricators Inc., Web Fabricating and Bartelheim Sheet Metal as a tinner before retiring in 1979.
He is survived by his son, Richard (Mary Beth) Ols of Richmond, Va.; daughter, Rosemary (Curtis) Nemchak of Granger Township; two grandchildren; brother, John Ols of Henderson, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (nee Yarish); brothers, Edward, Frank Jr., Joseph and Frank Gerard; and sister, Sister Mary Corneila SND.
Funeral Mass: 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Assumption Catholic Church, 1033 Elm St., Grafton. Father Ralph Bodziony will officiate.
Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, Grafton.

Edward F. Pelka
Edward F. Pelka, 85, of Freeport, Ohio, previously a 15-year resident of Brunswick, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Harrison County Hospital.
He was born March 22, 1916, in Lafferty, Ohio, and was a Medina County resident for 15 years. Mr. Pelka worked as a machine operator at Alcoa for 22 years. He was a member of Freeport Seniors, Tippecanoe United Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his son, Dennis (Brigid) Pelka of Seville; daughter, Anita (Bob) Pike of Chicago; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie, and son, Michael.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday at Carlson, A Golden Rule Funeral Home, 1642 Pearl Road (one-half mile south of state Route 303), Brunswick.
Burial: Eastlawn Memory Gardens, Brunswick.

Paul M. Strojny
Paul M. Strojny, 37, of West Salem, passed away Monday, July 30, 2001, in Ashland as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born May 16, 1964, in Medina and was a Medina County resident until 1991, most recently living in Wayne County. He enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing.
Mr. Strojny is survived by his mother, Cecile R. Strojny of West Salem; sister, Rebecca (Robert) Young of Savannah, Ohio; niece, Jennifer Nicole Young of Savannah; nephew, Justin Robert Young of Savannah; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul A., and grandparents, Andrew and Lottie Strojny, and Harvey and Gertrude Phelps.
Service: 11 a.m. Friday at Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court St. The Rev. Michael Oakley will officiate.
Burial: Eastlawn Memory Gardens, Brunswick.

Jacqueline M. Allen
Jacqueline M. "Jackie" Allen, 69, of Creston, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital following a short illness.
She was born Jan. 1, 1932, in Barberton to Eldoris and Louise (Bergdorf) Collins and made her home in Creston for the past 50 years. She was the salutatorian at Seville High School in 1949. Mrs. Allen worked for 27 years at the Creston Library, retiring as the branch's head librarian in 2000. She was an active member of Creston Presbyterian Church, Women's Association, Creston Friends of the Library, and Creston Book and Music Club. She was active in the Creston community and in 1992, was honored as Creston Citizen of the Year. Mrs. Allen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Richard G. Allen, whom she married on Jan. 7, 1950; sons, Andrew Allen and Lee (Melinda) Allen, both of Seville, Daniel (Marj) Allen and Scott (Jill) Allen, both of Wooster, Ben (Penny) Allen of Creston and George (Gretchen) Allen of Wadsworth; and grandchildren, Becky, Joe, Tad, Cathlin, Kenneth, Charles, Christopher, Jeremy, Leslie, Michael, Sara, Jackie, Sam and Susanna.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Louise, in 1966, and grandson, Jonathan, in 1997.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Creston Presbyterian Church. The Rev. James McCurdy will officiate.
Interment: Jackson Cemetery.
