Catherine Avila
Catherine Avila, 89, of Brunswick Hills Township, passed away Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at VNS Hospice Care Center Ridgewood in Akron.
She was born Jan. 13, 1915, in Brolo, Sicily, and arrived at Ellis Island, N.Y., at age 8. She was a member of the Azteca Club of Cleveland, Medina County Seniors and St. Ambrose Catholic Church. She was a machine operator for Sealy Mattress Co., retiring after 20 years, and also worked for Medina County Seniors for 10 years. Catherine will be remembered by her family and many lifelong friends for her independent free spirit, quick wit and love of music.
She is survived by her sons, Jim (Joan) Avila of Brunswick Hills, Larry Avila of Brooklyn and Jerry Avila of Dallas; daughters, Janet Rea of Medina and Linda Raday of Brunswick Hills; grandchildren, Judy Hadam of Medina, Kathy Rea of Avon, Bob Rea of Korea, Debbie Aldridge of Granger Township, Denise Avila of Rocky River, Dan Avila of Brunswick, Cheryl Surrarrer of Brunswick, Kristy Schieber of Columbus, Tony Avila of Independence, Julie Avila of Independence, Katie Avila of Chicago and Bob Avila of Independence; 12 great-grandchildren; and brother, Jim Fornia of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Guadalupe Avila; brother, Frank Fornia; and sister, Antoinette Moore.
Service: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 929 Pearl Road, Brunswick.
Interment: Towline Cemetery, Brunswick Hills.

Thomas L. Aust
Thomas L. Aust, 66, of Medina, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 8, 2004.
He was born Oct. 21, 1937, in Fairview Park to Raymond and Genevieve Aust and lived in Strongsville prior to moving to Medina County 13 years ago. Tom was a retired sales consultant with Sherwin-Williams. He was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Valley City, where he was involved in the music ministry. He was a lifelong musician, playing for many weddings and parties and with a large selection of musical talents. He played polka Masses at his home church, as well as neighboring churches. Recently, Tom built a recording studio in his home so he could record not only his music, but recordings for many others. His pride and joy was being involved with all the activities of his grandchildren. Tom was a model train enthusiast. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dottie (nee Langer); children, Lori (Ken) Hess of Macedonia, Carolyn Lough of Twinsburg and Rick Aust of Parma; grandchildren, Danny, Nicholas, Tommy, Sarah, Carly, Jessica and Julia; and brother, Donald Aust of Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, David, in 1993.
Service: Noon on Saturday at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 1800 Station Road, Valley City. The Rev. Thomas Dunphy will officiate.
Burial: St. Martin's Cemetery, Valley City.
Visiting hours: 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road, Valley City.

Paul H. Heilman
Paul Herbert Heilman, 93, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Samaritan Hospital in Ashland.
He was born Dec. 22, 1910, in Spencer to Grover and Verda Holmes Heilman and resided in Spencer most of his life. Mr. Heilman was a machinist for Spencer Manufacturing Co., a self-employed truck driver and later a heavy equipment operator at Medina Land Fill. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Homerville and enjoyed farming and gardening.
Mr. Heilman is survived by his wife, Mary; children, William of Burbank, Russell (Pat) of Medina, Bert (June) of West Salem, Clarence of Medina, Gerald (Freda) of Rittman, Robert (Josie) of Sullivan Township, Jerry (Mary) of Wooster, Eileen Rogers of Brunswick, Barbara Boreman of Lodi and Sue (Bill) Schaad of West Salem; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Freeda, in 1999; brother, Ralph; and sister, Helen Smith.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, 8439 River Corners Road, Homerville. Pastor Myron Schevey will officiate.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Ruth M. Rogers, 82, has passed away.
She was the beloved wife of John Rogers, who preceded her in death; loving mother of Tim (Linda) of Canton and Mary Beth (Jim) Schleter of Chippewa Lake; grandmother of seven; and great-grandmother of one.

Anna J. Zielinski, 91, of Medina, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004.
She was born April 5, 1913, in Podwierzyniec, Poland. She was a member of St. Ambrose Women's Guild. Mrs. Zielinski enjoyed gardening and baking, and was a tireless worker. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her son, James (Susan) Zielinski of Medina; daughter, Phyllis (Bill) Kidder of Medina; sister, Mary Szuba of Brunswick; and grandson, James Edward Zielinski.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve; parents, Felix and Josephine (nee Leznar) Panek; and grandson, Eric Walter Kidder.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 929 Pearl Road, Brunswick.
Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Brook Park.

John Hollis Delong, 85, of Lodi, passed away Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at Hospice of Medina County at The Inn at Medina.
He was born May 18, 1919, in Lodi, to William E. and Nora L. Shaw Delong. Mr. Delong was a 1936 graduate of Lodi High School. He was a farmer and lifetime resident of Lodi. He was past master of the Harrisville Lodge 137 F&AM, a 4-H adviser for many years and a former Harrisville Township zoning inspector.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; sons, Lewis (Lynn) Delong of Lodi and Darrell (Sandra) Delong of Lodi; and grandchildren, Michele and John R.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Delong and Lucile Daly.
Service: 11 a.m. Friday at Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi.
Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery, Lodi.

Sarah M. Tosatto, 63, of Wadsworth, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Hospice of Medina at The Inn at Medina, following a five-year illness.
She was born May 24, 1941, in Tarentum, Pa., to William and Sarah (nee Rogers) Thomson. Mrs. Tosatto made her home in Hinckley for 36 years before moving to Wadsworth in 2003. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Rittman.
Mrs. Tosatto is survived by her husband, Joseph, whom she married Aug. 8, 1958; children, Richard (Mauresa) Tosatto of Wadsworth, Joe (Lisa) Tosatto of Creston, Jimmy Tosatto of Hinckley and Phyllis Tosatto of Brunswick; grandchildren, Jennifer, Joey, Michael, Amanda (Mike), Ricky, Heather, Brittney and Anthony; brother, William (Phyllis) Thomson of Fawn Township, Pa.; and sisters, Liz Hollenbaugh of Tarentum, Mary (Robert) Young of Sharver, Pa., Barbara Cvetnick of Natrona Heights, Pa., and Linda (Gary) Hough of Wooster.
