Myrtle V. Christy
Myrtle Viola Christy, 86, of Medina, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2001, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Rittman, where she resided for the last nine months.

She was born June 7, 1914, in New Effington, S.D., to Benjamin Franklin and Josephine Borgen Harn and grew up in Veblen, S.D. She later lived in Spokane, Wash., and moved to the Medina area in 1947. Mrs. Christy was a homemaker and enjoyed returning to South Dakota annually.

She is survived by her husband, Gaylord, whom she married on Oct. 31, 1946, in Sand Point, Idaho; brothers, Elmer Harn of Reno, Nev., and Ervin (Evelyn) Harn of Vale, Ore.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Stevens and Caroline Olsen, and brothers, Ernest, Clifford and Benjamin Harn.

Service: 1 p.m. Thursday at Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi. The Rev. Randy K'Meyer will officiate.

Burial: Poe Cemetery.

Visiting hours: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ronald K. Crawford
Ronald K. Crawford, 54, of Spencer, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at Lodi Community Hospital.

He was born March 26, 1946, in Gastonia, Ga., and was a Medina County resident for three months, formerly of Old Brooklyn, a Cleveland suburb. Mr. Crawford was employed as a line coordinator with Ford Motor Co., Cleveland. He was a member of the National Pool League, Southwest Eight Ball League and the Regional Pigeon Association. Mr. Crawford served in the Army during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Tammie M. Crawford (nee Rice) of Spencer; daughters, Leisha and Ronda Crawford, both of Cleveland, and Jessica Kulik of Spencer; sons, Ronald Crawford Jr. of Lancaster and Timothy Kulik Jr. of Lobleville, Tenn.; mother, Leslie Crawford of Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; sisters, Teresa Crawford of Knoxville and Charlene Crawford of Cleveland; and brothers, Rick Crawford of Marietta, Ga., Gary Crawford of Phoenix and Charles Crawford of Taylor, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles.

Service: 8:30 p.m. today at Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court St. Allen Alexander will officiate.

Visiting hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Waver J. McCourt
Waver J. McCourt, 57, of Medina, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital.

She was born Nov. 25, 1943, in Lodi and was a lifetime resident of Medina County. Mrs. McCourt was employed with the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier and also worked in the administrative office in Medina. She was a lifetime member of Medina Assembly of God.

She is survived by her son, Richard "Cave Man" Williams and Scott (Denise) McCourt, all of Medina; daughters, Cheryl Willis of Cleveland, Georgia DeVore of Brunswick and Traci (Cameron) Karger of Mansfield; stepsons, Jeffery (Deborah) McCourt of Wadsworth, James (Trudy) McCourt of Spencer and Richard (Pamela) McCourt of Medina; father, Victor Seeley of Medina; grandchildren, Ashley McCourt, Victoria Willis, Caleb and Chase Williams, Addison Karger, and Darren, Kara and Austin Grabel; brothers, Ron (Patricia) Seeley of Valley City and William Joseph Seeley of Spencer; and sister, Patricia (Robert) Yost of Westfield Center.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Fredda Seeley (Musch); brother, Don Seeley; and son-in-law, Rob Willis.

Service: 11 a.m. Friday at Medina Assembly of God, 830 Lafayette Road, Medina. The Rev. Ron Dress will officiate.

Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery, Medina.

Visiting hours: 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court St.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Medina Assembly of God or the American Diabetes Association, 225 E. Exchange St., Akron, 44302.

Cheryl A. Mikalacki
Cheryl Ann (nee Boone) Mikalacki, 40, of Greenwich, Ohio, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at the Hospice of Visiting Nurse Center in Copley after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Cleveland and resided there until moving to Medina County in 1976. She then moved to Greenwich in 1994. Mrs. Mikalacki graduated from Medina County JVS in 1978, where she studied animal care. She was a member of FFA. A couple of years later, she graduated with an associate's degree from the OSU branch at ATI in Wooster. She was a waitress for 12 years at Rustic Inn, Medina. Mrs. Mikalacki enjoyed creative craft making of all kinds, gardening, antiques and had an avid love of reading and animals. She will be remembered by many for her loving and gentle personality.

Mrs. Mikalacki is survived by her husband, John, whom she married on June 18, 1994; daughters, Rebeka Lynn, 41/2, and Rachael, 21/2, both at home; parents, Ron and Theresa (nee Krupar) of York Township; brother, Allen (Cherine) Boone, of Suwanee, Ga.; in-laws, Jean and Ed Violett of Litchfield Township and John G. Mikalacki of Dearborn, Mich.; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Betsy) Mikalacki of Medina and Joe Mikalacki of Sterling; sister-in-law, Joan Frey of Spencer; grandparents-in-law, Ladd and Louis Praisler of Medina; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Martin Catholic Church, 1824 Station Road, Valley City. The Rev. Thomas Dunphy will officiate.

Burial: St. Martin Church Cemetery, Valley City.

Visiting hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road, Valley City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

Lois E. Scott
Lois E. Scott, 87, of Lodi, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Smithville Western Care Center in Wooster, where she had resided the past six months.

She was born March 30, 1913, in the Methodist parsonage in Ashley, Ohio, to the Rev. Charles and Josephine Howard Cole. She was a graduate of North Fairfield High School. Mrs. Scott received her teaching certificate from Ohio University and taught elementary school for several years in North Fairfield, Plymouth and Lodi. She and her husband owned and operated Scott & Sons IGA in Lodi from 1938 to 1961. They later joined with Ray and Verna Turk in 1959 to build and operate Strike & Spare Lanes in Lodi. Mrs. Scott was a member of Lodi United Methodist Church and Lodi Chapter 137 Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years, where she was past matron. She loved her family and friends.

Mrs. Scott is survived by her sons, Chuck (Pat) Scott of Brentwood, Tenn., Larry (Irene) Scott of Westfield Center and Tom (Bonnie) Scott of Medina; grandchildren, Jo (Richard) Drumright of Brentwood, Jim (Val) Scott of Anderson, Ind., Barb (Brad) Dawson of Medina, Pam (Steve) Bredemeier of Bexley, Ohio, David (Colleen) Scott of Hilliard, Brian (Sandy) Scott of Mason, Ohio, and Sue (Bo) Thompson of Medina; and great-grandchildren, Will, Rachel, Taylor, Zach, Jeremy, Curtis, Joy, Ethan, Henry, Annie and Casey.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Correl E., in 1981, whom she married on June 20, 1934; sisters, Helen Fee and Margaret Harry; and brother, Howard Cole.

Memorial service: 7 p.m. Saturday at Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi. The Rev. David Howell of Lodi will officiate.

Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery, Lodi.

Visiting hours: 1 to 3 p.m. and one hour prior to the memorial service Saturday. Order of the Eastern Star services will be held at 2:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Lodi United Methodist Church, 320 Medina St., Lodi, 44254, or the Society for Handicapped Citizens, 4283 Paradise Road, Seville, 44273.

Eleanor M. Scheimann
Eleanor "Ellie" M. Scheimann, 73, of Brunswick, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, in Middleburg Heights.

She was born March 29, 1927, in Cleveland and was a Medina County resident for 24 years.

Mrs. Scheimann is survived by her sons, Anthony Scheimann Jr., Richard Scheimann and Robert Scheimann, all of Brunswick, and Joseph Scheimann of Florida; brother, James Habart of Strongsville; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Sr., and brother, Arthur Habart.

Visiting hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Jardine Funeral Home, 14701 Pearl Road, Strongsville.

Leo E. Smith
Leo E. Smith, 69, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Akron City Hospital.

He was born July 1, 1931, in Wadsworth, where he lived his entire life on the family farm. Mr. Smith was a 1949 graduate of Wadsworth High School and attended Arizona State University. He was a member of Wadsworth Post 170 of the American Legion, Wadsworth Moose Lodge and Wadsworth Eagles. Mr. Smith spent his entire life farming and retired from Holland Oil Co. in 1996. He was a hard-working, kind-hearted man who will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Mr. Smith served in the Air Force during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bonnie (nee Miller) Smith; children, Mike (Margo) Smith, Mary Ellen Poetter, Sue (Jim) Fajt, Barb (Allen) Lesure, Jim (Lisa) Smith, Steve (Jessi) Smith and Tom Smith, all of Wadsworth, and Jody Smith of Akron; 24 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Francis Smith of Barberton and Alfred Joseph Smith of Wadsworth; sister, Rita Rice of Rittman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph J. and Mildred (Nichter) Smith; brother, Tony J. Smith; brother-in-law, Perry Miller; nephew, Anthony Smith; and son-in-law, Rick Poetter.

Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Hilliard & Mullaney Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St., Wadsworth.

Interment: Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Visiting hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the rosary will be recited at 3:30.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1236 Weathervane, Suite 300C, Akron, 44313.

Dennis A. Fehlner
Dennis A. Fehlner, 50, of Medina, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, in Medina.

He was born April 24, 1950, in Cleveland and was a Medina County resident for eight years. Mr. Fehlner was a metallurgical engineer at Ford Motor Co. for 26 years. He was retired from the Ohio Army National Guard, Company B 112th Engineer Battalion. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, running, woodworking and music.

He is survived by his wife, Linda M. (nee Kyer) of Medina; sons, Alan P. Fehlner and Jason T. Fehlner, both of Cleveland, and Matthew R. Fehlner of Olmsted Falls; stepson, Gilbert T. Korka of Grafton; grandson, Jeremy Korka; granddaughter, Jamie Korka; father, George T. Fehlner of Avon Lake; mother, Dorothy M. Fehlner of Cleveland; grandmother, Alice C. Fehlner of Avon Lake; sister, Deborah L. Darnell of Avon Lake; brother, Robert G. Fehlner of Broadview Heights; very good friend, Diane C. Fehlner of Olmsted Falls; and companions, his dogs, Amber and Sissy.

Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Cornerstone Chapel, 3939 Granger Road, Medina. The Rev. John Chapman will officiate.

Burial: Elmhurst Cemetery, Avon.

Visiting hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Brunswick Chapel, 3300 Center Road (state Route 303 at Interstate 71).

Alice J. Myers
Alice J. Myers, 78, of Medina, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at Medina General Hospital.

She was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Brecksville and was a Medina County resident for 60-plus years. Mrs. Myers was a member of Medina United Methodist Church and was the church secretary at Medina United Church of Christ for 25 years.

Mrs. Myers is survived by her son, Kenneth (Debi) Myers of Leesburg, Va.; daughter, Marie (Matthew) Smith of Canal Fulton; and grandchildren, Kristen and Cortney.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland, and son, Jeffery.

Service: 2 p.m. Friday at Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court St. Dr. Ted Elsenheimer will officiate.

Burial: Poe Cemetery, Medina Township.

Visiting hours: 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
