Daniel McKirnan
Daniel M. McKirnan, 79, 130 Northwood Drive, Celina, died at 11:45 p.m. March 26, 2001 at Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.
He was born Dec. 4, 1921, in Celina, to Daniel C. and Marguerite (Hemmert) McKirnan. On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Mary Jo Sommers, who survives.
Other survivors are two sons and their wives, Kevin and Cheryl, and Frank and Sue, all of Celina; two daughters and their husbands, Maureen and Michael Hausfeld, Dublin, and Jane and Lee Riesen, Lebanon; and seven grandchildren.
He was co-owner and president of McKirnan Brothers Vending, Inc., and co-owner and vice president of McKirnan Brothers Inc. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces with the 20th Reconnaissance Squadron, 6th Reconnaissance Group, 5th Air Force with a rank of 1st Lieutenant in the Pacific Theatre. He served as president and director at large of the Ohio Automatic Merchandising Association and was Operator of the Year in 1988. He was director of Western District of Society Bank, served as two-term president of Celina Area Chamber of Commerce, president of the Sertoma Club, Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5713, and was an original director of the Community Improvement Corp. He was a 1943 graduate of Purdue University, and a 1939 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School. He trained in mechanical engineering at Yale University, Harvard University and MIT while serving in the Air Force.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church, Celina, the Rev. Robert Schmitz officiating. Burial is at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina.
Contributions can be made to the Immaculate Conception Endowment Fund.

Hester Bowersock
Former St. Marys resident Hester F. Bowersock, 98, died at 12:13 p.m. March 29, 2001 at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home.
She was born May 29, 1902, in St. Marys, to Louis and Lovina (Grigg) Sullivan. On June 15, 1921, she married Harry L. Bowersock, who died March 19, 1980.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Norma Sullivan, South Charleston, and Viola Sullivan, New Knoxville; three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Louis, three brothers, Harold, Virgil and Vernon Sullivan, and a sister-in-law, Esther Sullivan.
She was a homemaker and was a former employee of DWG Cigar Factory, St. Marys. She was a member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church, St. Marys.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Monday at Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. David L. Woodyard officiating.
Calling is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Donald Knapke
Donald G. Knapke, D.V.M., 63, of West Alexandria, died suddenly March 28, 2001 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.
He was born in Coldwater March 4, 1938, to Rudolph and Dorothy (Kobes) Knapke. His wife, Barbara, survives.
Other survivors are a son, Frederick of McArthur; a daughter, Angela of Cincinnati; and a sister, Sister Mary Lou Knapke, S.C., Cincinnati.
He was a veterinarian in the West Alexandria area, and was a member of Church of the Visitation, Eaton, the A.V.M.A., and the F.A.S.T. Club, Brookville. He was a 1961 graduate of Ohio State University.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. J. Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial is at Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria.
Calling is 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Cecelia Kremer
Cecelia Kremer, 94, 4249 Ohio 716A, Celina, died at 4:55 a.m. March 30, 2001 at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater, where she was a resident for two weeks.
She was born April 21, 1906, in St. Rose, to Joseph and Mary (Niemeyer) Homan. On May 6, 1931, she married Herbert A. Kremer, who died in 1984.
Survivors are three sons and their wives, Stanley and Ruth of Celina, Luke and Gladys of Dayton, and Lavern and Ann of Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters and their husbands, Thelma and Jerry Ruchty, and Agnes and Mel Bertke, all of Coldwater; a sister, Agnes Schulte, Chickasaw; 23 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sisters, six brothers and a grandchild.
She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and its Christian Mother's Sodality, Montezuma.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. James Dugal officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.

Frances E. Hoch
Frances E. Hoch, 84, formerly a resident of rural Spencerville and Tucson, Ariz., died at 8:40 a.m. March 28, 2001 at Van Crest Care Center in Van Wert.
She was born June 10, 1916, in Salem Township in Auglaize County to Harmon and Nellie B. (McConnell) Wright. On April 8, 1936, she married Clayton D. Hoch, who died July 13, 1980.
Survivors are three daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Carl Kill of Celina, Linda and Richard Ashbaugh of Belmont, N. H., and Cheryl and Michael Wright of Summerville, S. C.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She had worked for many years with her husband on the family farm near Spencerville and had been active with the Parent Teacher Association in Spencerville. In Arizona, she was active in the Mount Cross Lutheran Church in Payson, Ariz.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, the Rev. Alan Field officiating. Burial will follow in the Spencerville Cemetery.
Calling is 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Van Wert Manor or Van Crest Care Center activity funds.

Earl Ahrens
Earl T. Ahrens, 75, 1110 Sunset Drive, Celina, died at 3 a.m. Feb. 28, 2002, at Lima Memorial Hospital. Death was due to natural causes.
He was born July 24, 1926, in Port Washington, to Herman and Ella (Fark) Ahrens. On Jan. 6, 1951, he married Madonna Bollenbacher and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, David and Barb of Celina; three daughters and their husbands, Carol and Ken Gray, Diane and Don Norris and Denise and Randy Laux, all of Celina; two brothers and their wives, Herman and Lorene of Landsdale, Pa., and Ralph and Marilyn of Ossion, Ind.; a sister and her husband, Ruth and Eddison Klingler, Kenton; and 11 grandchildren.
He retired from the former Mersman's factory and Erb Lumber, both of Celina, after 31 years of service. He was a World War II veteran and a member of Celina American Legion Post 210.
Services are 3:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Pauls United Church of Christ, Rockford, the Rev. John Fleming officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, and after 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Contributions can be made to the church.

Robert Hobler
Robert E. Hobler, 75, 261 N. Spruce St., St. Marys, died at 6:45 p.m. Feb. 27, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born March 6, 1926, in St. Marys, to Clyde and Reva (Witzenhausen) Hobler. On May 10, 1947, he married Wilma "Jean" Darnell and she died Sept. 17, 1969.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Robert and B.J. and Dean and Pam, all of St. Marys; two daughters and their husbands, Cheryl and Brad King, Temperance, Mich., and Ellen and Allen Fhegley, Carlisle, Ind., and a daughter, Melinda of St. Marys; a sister-in-law, Margaret of St. Marys; and four grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Tracy Annette, and a brother, Richard.
He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in St. Marys after 381/2 years of service. He was a 1944 graduate of Memorial High School, St. Marys, and a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a member and trustee of Hillsdale United Brethren Church in St. Marys, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289, St. Marys, and a patron of Van Wert Civic Theater.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Al Carter officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys.
Contributions can be made to the church.
