Lawrence Kemper
Lawrence E. "Larry" Kemper, 69, 56 West Sixth St., Minster, died at 1:10 a.m. this morning, March 1, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. He had been ill six months.
He was born Oct. 24, 1932, in Minster, to Lawrence and Ruth (Gaier) Kemper. On Nov. 23, 1954, he married Martha Jean Meyer who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Jack and Libby of Grove City; three daughters and their husbands, Diane and David Stricker, Minster, Debra and Frank Ganley, Tampa, Fla., and Nancy and Bruce Adams, LaMesa, Calif.; two brothers and their wives, Donald and Susan of McCormick, S.C., and James and Carol of Fort Loramie; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a son, Michael.
He was retired as a project superintendent for H.A. Dorsten Inc., and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, both of Minster. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of Minster Historical Society, Ohio Archeological Society, Ohio Rifle and Pistol Club, Valley City Rifle Club and a life member of the National Rifle Association.
Funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Louis Schmidt officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Monday and 9-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.

Kathryn Knapp
Kathryn C. Knapp, 91, 540 E. Anthony St., Celina, died Feb. 28, 2002, at her residence.
She was born June 5, 1910, in Coldwater, to John and Catherine (Powell) Menchhofer. On Aug. 1, 1941, she married Wilmer Knapp and he died Dec. 22, 1986.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Wallace and Janet of Upper Sandusky; a daughter and her husband, Marcia and Mark Miller, Coldwater; a brother, Martin Menchhofer, St. Marys; a sister, Helen Suchland, New Bremen; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Cletus and Herbert Menchhofer, and a sister, Beatrice Nolte.
She worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in St. Marys, as a sports writer for the Mercer County Chronicle in Coldwater and at the former New Life Spa in Celina. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Celina Flower Garden Club and the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. She served as Brownie leader for many years.
Private services are Sunday at the church, the Rev. Douglas Meyer officiating. Burial will be at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, has charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.
Contributions can be made to the organ fund at St. John Lutheran Church or St. Paul Lutheran Church, Coldwater.
Lola Shaffer
Lola I. Shaffer, 80, 330 Hickory St., St. Marys, a former New Bremen resident, died Feb. 28, 2002, at her residence.
She was born May 8, 1921, near Sidney, to Lafayette and Mary Edna (Fosnight) Verdier. On Aug. 7, 1940, she married Robert Shaffer and he died Jan. 9, 1987.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Robert Shaffer Jr. and Deb-ra Monnin, Versailles; five daughters and their husbands, Phyllis Mills and Gill Rhodes, Oklahoma City, Okla., Carolyn and Larry Wehnes, St. Marys, Sarah and Don Belton, New Bremen, Julia and Neil Fossa, Lima, and Janet and Stephen Henschen, Knoxville, Tenn.; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are four brothers, a half brother and a half sister.
She retired from Crown Equip. Corp., New Bremen, in 1988 after 26 years of service and attended Hillsdale United Brethren Church, St. Marys.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, the Rev. Al Carter officiating. Burial is at Willow Grove Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

John Fleck
John R. Fleck, 72, 140 Woodview Drive, Coldwater, died at 1:45 a.m. March 1, 2002, at SCCI at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born Aug. 7, 1929, in Celina, to Matthew and Mary (Mertz) Fleck. On Sept. 4, 1954, he married Eileen Knapke who died Oct. 15, 1980. On May 14, 1982, he married Irma Kramer Grilliot who survives.
Other survivors are five stepsons and their wives, Tom and Joyce Grilliot of Covington, Ken and Tammy Grilliot of Troy, Dave and Kathy Grilliot of New Port, Randy and Mary Ann Grilliot of Versailles, and Nick and Kim Grilliot of Brookville; six stepdaughters and their husbands, Diane and Paul Penny of Sidney, Bonnie and Steve York of Russia, Barb and Ray Riethman of McCartyville, Gretta and Gary Phlipot of Versailles; Jan and Tom Finfrock of Brookville, and Angie and Tony Dues of Carmel, Ind., and a stepdaughter, Cathy Grilliot of Lima; three brothers and their wives, Robert and Merilda, Paul and Rose Mary, and James and Connie, all of Celina; a sister and her husband, Marilyn and John Braun of Celina, and a sister, Catherine Wenning of Coldwater; a sister-in-law, Lucille of Celina; 36 stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased is a brother, Richard.
He was retired from Reynolds & Reynolds, Celina, and worked part-time at Pax Machine, Celina. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, and its Men's Holy Name Society. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, having served in the 1989 Regiment, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1991, Coldwater.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating. Burial is at St. Marys Cemetery, Celina, with military rites performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, both of Coldwater.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.

Dolores Schimpf
Dolores M. Schimpf, 67, of Lima, died at 5:20 a.m. March 1, 2002, at Lima Convalescent Home.
She was born March 18, 1935, in St. Paul, Minn., to Joseph and Margaret Von de Linde Ohr. On Nov. 8, 1952, she married Paul F. Schimpf Jr., who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Thomas F. and Terry of North Richland Hills, Texas, and a son, David R. of Irving, Texas; three daughters and their husbands, former city editor for The Daily Standard, Paula C. and Rob Richardson of Spencerville, Gail E. and William Lewis of Westerville, Barbara R. and Robert Gupton of McKinney, Texas, and a daughter, Christina M. of Westerville; a brother, Donald Ohr of Ava, Mo.; 11 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Deceased is a stepfather, Sylvester Sather; a brother, Lawrence Ohr; a stepbrother, Roger Sather; and a stepsister, Nancy Sabin.
She retired in 2000 as a nursing assistant at Cridersville Nursing Home. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Lima, its Altar Rosary Society and the church's Home and School Association.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Chris Vasko officiating. Burial is at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Home, Shawnee Chapel, Lima. A wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday.

William Seastone
William E. Seastone, 64, 1840 E. Market St., Celina, died of cancer at 5:45 a.m. March 1, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Feb. 8, 1938, in Breckenridge, Minn., to Merrien and Lucille (Pittner) Seastone.
Survivors are four brothers, John, Carl, James and Merrien Jr., all of Oregon; two sisters, Barbara Skorepa of Celina, and Mary Lou Starr of Oregon; a nephew, Ben Savage of Oregon; three nieces, Helen Howe of Coldwater, Barbara Markham of Canada, and Angela Howe of Oregon.
Deceased are two brothers, Richard and Raymond; and a sister, Margaret Esstepp.
There will be no visitation or services.
Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater, is handling funeral arrangements.
Steven Braun
Steven C. Braun, 42, of Reading, Mich., formerly of Coldwater, died Feb. 28, 2002, at the Hillsdale Community Health Center, Hillsdale, Mich.
He was born Nov. 28, 1959, in Coldwater, to Lewis and Rosella (Barga) Braun. The mother survives in Coldwater. His wife, the former Carolyn Bennett, survives.
Also surviving are a son, Samuel Braun, Litchfield, Mich.; two daughters, Barbara Braun, Litchfield, and Amanda Braun, Reading; two stepsons, Pvt. Dennis Begley, Germany, and Benjamin Begley, Reading; two brothers and their wives, Mike and Rebecah of Celina and Thomas and Mary Jo of Coldwater; and a sister and her husband, Susan and Tony Fella, Coldwater.
He was a Ham radio operator and a member of the National Rifle Association.
Memorial visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Tuesday at Kurtz Funeral Home, Hillsdale. The body was cremated.
