Emanuel Caywood
Emanuel "Cay" J. Caywood, 88, of Fort Wayne, Ind. and who had numerous relatives in the Mercer County area, died March 3, 2002, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He was born Sept. 6, 1913, in Steuben County, Ind. On April 15, 1936, he married Hilda Arnold and she survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Donald D. of Auburn, Ind., James E. of Waverly, Dale A. of Wolcottville, Ind., and Michael of Huntertown, Ind.; a daughter, Diana J. Frey, Granger, Ind.; a brother, Alonzo P. of Angola, Ind.; a sister, Mary E. Outcalt, Warsaw, Ind.; 23 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Wendell, a brother, Gerald, and three sisters, Vivian Rosseau, Naomi M. Fisher and Marjorie Johnstone.
He retired as a mechanic with Kroger's in 1978 after 28 years of service. He was a member of Brookside Community Church, Masonic Lodge 731, Free and Accepted Masons, York Rite, Scottish Rite and Mispah Shrine, all of Fort Wayne.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home, Fort Wayne.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Calling is 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Thomas Coombs
Thomas Richard Coombs, 85, 1100 Myers Road, Apt. 6, Celina, died at 5:02 p.m. March 1, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Feb. 8, 1917, in Greenville, to George F. and Edith (Hickcox) Coombs. On Oct. 18, 1993, he married Betty L. Coats Joseph and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Larry and Mary of Frankfort, Mich., and a son, Raymond of Coldwater; a daughter and her husband, Brenda and Dan DeCerbo, Brookville, and two daughters, Irene Coombs, Celina and Jackie Israel, Washington; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Thomas R. Jr., and a sister, Helen Zurwell.
He retired from Pax Steel Products, Coldwater, and attended Grace Missionary Church, Celina.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Steve Howell officiating. Burial will be at Abbottsville Cemetery, Arcanum.

Rosie Temple Fleming
Rosie Temple Fleming, 83, 119 Wild Cherry St., Celina, died at 10:45 a.m. March 2, 2002, at her residence. She had been ill with a heart condition the past two years.
She was born June 29, 1918, in Glynwood, to Fred and Myrtle (Ranga) McDermitt. On Nov. 11, 1967, she married James C. Fleming and he died July 1, 1989.
Surviving are three sons and their wives, Jack and Linda Temple, Wapakoneta, Jerry and Connie Temple, Celina, and Terry and Donna Temple, Montezuma, and two sons, Gary Temple, St. Marys, and Richard Temple, Celina; a daughter, Shirley Cornwell, St. Marys; 25 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sons, Lincoln Temple and Robert Temple Jr., and a daughter, Sharon Temple.
A graduate of Memorial High School in St. Marys, she retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys, after more than 30 years of service.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Joy L. Miller officiating. Burial will be at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.

Ruth Jenkins
Ruth Evelyn Jenkins, 78, a resident of the Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford, and a former Celina resident, died March 1, 2002, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born April 15, 1923, in Coldwater, to Otis C. and Aileen R. (West) Shively. On Aug. 3, 1955, she married Byron R. Jenkins and he survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, James and Bianka Jenkins, and a son, Michael Gehm, all of Celina; a daughter and her husband, Brenda and Greg Anderson, Rockford; a brother and his wife, Donald and Joyce Shively, Celina, and a brother, Dale Shively, Portland, Ind.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased are three sisters, Mary Weisman, Joan Shively and Wanda Byrum.
She retired in 1985 from Huffy Bicycle Corp. in Celina after 17 years of service. She attended Celina First Church of God.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Richard Van Horn officiating. Burial will be at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.

Thelma Jones
Thelma Jones, 87, 800 Indiana Ave., Apt. D-2, St. Marys, died at 1:50 a.m. March 3, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born April 17, 1914, in Celina, to Earl and Cora (May) Wolf. Her first husband, Virgil Krauss, died in 1962. On Dec. 29, 1978, she married Richard Jones and he survives at Otterbein-St. Marys Retirement Community.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Richard and Florence Krauss, St. Marys, and the Rev. James and Janice Krauss, Spring Arbor, Mich.; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Jeannie and John Froning, Rochester, Mich., and Sherlyn and Ross Campbell, Washington, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a twin sister, Velma Wolf, in infancy, and two other sisters, Hazel McMillen and Ruby Dustman.
A graduate of Celina High School, she retired as a switchboard operator at Joint Township Hospital. She was a charter member of St. Marys Church of the Nazarene and Living Hope Assembly of God, St. Marys, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for more than 50 years.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Living Hope Assembly of God Church, the Rev. John Nunnally officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys.

Loren Mangen
Loren R. Mangen, 75, 616 W. High St., Ansonia, died March 2, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 21, 1926, in Darke County, to Lawrence and Margaret (Dapore) Mangen. His wife, the former Alvera M. Leugers, died in October 2000.
Surviving are a son, Dale of Greenville; three daughters and their husbands, Dianne and Paul Mayer and Judy and Larry Hoffman, all of Ansonia, Joan and Joe Kramer, Rossburg, and a daughter, Linda of Ansonia; six brothers, Norman of Greenville, Nelson, Glen and Ellery, all of Versailles, Cyril of Celina, and Verl of Clayton; and five grandchildren.
He was a former employee of New York Central Railroad and a 35-year employee of Ansonia Lumber Co. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Frenchtown, and the North Star American Legion. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David P. Vincent officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery with the American Legion conducting military graveside rites.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Oliver Funeral Home, Greenville. A vigil service will be held there at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Maxine Sudhoff
Maxine M. Sudhoff, 87, 7545 E. Indiana 67, Bryant, Ind., died March 2, 2002, at Americare Living Center, Portland, Ind.
She was born Sept. 17, 1914, in Jay County, Ind., to Peter and Elizabeth (Remaklus) Hartnagel. On April 11, 1942, she married Alfons Sudhoff and he died Jan. 1, 2000.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was a homemaker and a retired employee of Jay Garment Co., Portland. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Bryant, and the Altar-Rosary Society of the church.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Robert Reinhart officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Calling is 4-7 p.m. today at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Portland. A rosary service will be held there at 4 p.m. today.
