Dorothy Dean
St. Rose native Dorothy M. Dean, 93, of Eaton, formerly of Richmond, Ind., died March 3, 2003, at Reid Hospital, Richmond.
She was born July 29, 1909, in St. Rose, to Frank and Catherine Luttmer Piekenbrock. Her first husband, Urban Theodore Hemmelgarn, died in 1973. Her second husband, Dale H. Dean, survives.
Also surviving are a son, Alan Mark Hemmelgarn, Richmond; a daughter, Gladys J. Schutte, Eaton; a brother, Werner Piekenbrock, Dayton; two sisters, Sister M. Leonides (Agnes), C.PP.S., Dayton, and Clara Meier, St. John; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sons, Dale and Lloyd Hemmelgarn; a brother, Edward Piekenbrock; and a sister, Josephine Landwehr.
She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, New Paris, and Holy Family Catholic Church, the Catholic Ladies of Columbia and St. Anne's Sodality, Richmond.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at the New Paris church, the Rev. J. Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial will follow at Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Friday at Barnes Funeral Home, New Paris. A rosary service is planned there at 7:45 p.m.

Charles Hawkey
Charles D. Hawkey, 77, 130 Hamilton St., Celina, died March 5, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 22, 1926, in Wapakoneta, to Francis and Marie Burden Hawkey. On July 3, 1947, he married Rosemary Huston who died March 26, 2002.
Surviving are two sons, Charles David Jr. of Celina and Randy (Becca) of St. Marys; three daughters, Barbara (Larry) Sattler, Connie (Joe) Tebbe and Kim (Randy) Highley, all of Celina; three brothers, Orville of St. Marys, Tom of Paulding, and John of Montezuma; a sister, Nancy Staley, Wapakoneta; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Rose Marie; two brothers, two sisters and a grandson are deceased.
He formerly worked as a construction worker for Henton Construction Co. and Hawkes Construction Co. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Celina, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Wapakoneta.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Rick Brosher officiating. Burial will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Joan Lawson
Joan L. Lawson, 69, 212 Elm St., St. Henry, died at 7:14 a.m. March 5, 2003, at Bon Securs Hospital, Venice, Fla.
She was born Feb. 19, 1934, in Rossburg, to James and Mary Frantz Shook. The mother survives in Beavercreek. On Oct. 18, 1952, she married Paul E. Lawson who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Phil (Carol) of Beavercreek, Mike and Jeff (Carolyn) of Arcanum and Tom of Greenville; a daughter, Debbie (Tom) Coughlin, London; two brothers, Max (Jo Ann) Shook, Kettering, and Dick Shook, Vandalia; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
A sister-in-law, Kay Shook, is deceased.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Henry Catholic Church.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Larry Wyen officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry.
Fairy Walker
Fairy Walker, 82, formerly of 227 Northway Drive, St. Marys, and the St. Mary Living Center, died March 5, 2003, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born Feb. 4, 1921, in Mercer County, to Omer and Lydia Fox Hinton. On Oct. 2, 1943, she married Paul Walker who died April 26, 1984.
Surviving are two sons, Paul (Linda) of Coldwater, Mich., and Glen (Becky) of Wapakoneta; four daughters, Janice (Leroy) Goodwin and Rita (Earl) Baker, all of St. Marys, Betty of Holly Hills, Fla., and Lois (Richard) Swallow, Wapakoneta; two brothers, Omer (Jan) Hinton, Arizona, and Floyd (Janet) Hinton, Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Alice Hinton, Wapakoneta; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A granddaughter is deceased.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, St. Marys.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Gregory Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

David Anthony
David H. Anthony, 82, 1 Miami Erie Place, New Bremen, died at 11:20 a.m. March 3, 2003, at Normandy Retirement Community, Rocky River.
He was born Sept. 24, 1920, in Fort Recovery, to W. Harold and Frances Phillips Anthony. On Dec. 28, 1946, he married Marie Huerkamp who survives.
Other survivors are three sons, Bill (Connie) of Rocky River, Philip (Betty) of Milpitas, Calif., and Bob (Mary) of Berea; three daughters, Mary Louise (Jim) Saunders, Georgetown, Mass., Helen Hancock, Crescent Springs, Ky., and Beth (Dave) Alvey, Leesburg, Va.; a brother, Vint (Betty) of Littleton, Colo.; two sisters, Mary Elaine Gerlach, Missoula, Mont., and Agnes Burgie, Kalamazoo, Mich.; and 15 grandchildren.
Deceased are three brothers, a sister and an infant daughter.
He retired as a machine service and installation technician from Stamco of New Bremen in Oct. 1985. He was instrumental in the formation of the New Bremen Emergency Squad, for which he was a paramedic and CPR instructor. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran stationed in the Aleution Islands during World War II and a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and the American Legion post 241, both of New Bremen. He was a 1938 graduate of Fort Recovery High School and a 1949 graduate of Notre Dame University.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Jack Kroeger officiating. Burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery, Minster, following cremation of the body.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and 9:30-10:10 a.m. Friday at the church where the rosary will be prayed.

Paul Fullenkamp
Paul F. Fullenkamp, 81, Siegrist-Jutte Road, Fort Recovery, died at 3:08 a.m. March 3, 2003, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
He was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Coldwater, to Frank and Rose Bettinger Fullenkamp. On June 19, 1946, he married Agnes Post who died Aug. 30, 1995.
Surviving are two sons, Chris (Pam) of Sharpsburg and Jerry (Barb) of Coldwater; two daughters, Ginny (Pat) Gehret, Fort Recovery, and Cheryl (Ray) Hart, Coldwater; two sisters, Geraldine (Arthur) DeTomaso, Coldwater, and Rita (Wynn) Freiden, California; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, four sisters and a grandchild.
A retired poultry farmer, he was a member of the St. Peter Catholic Church and the Men's Society of the church.
Funeral Mass is 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Ken Alt officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mildred Grimm
Mildred D. Grimm, 74, 518 Echo St., Celina, died at 3:33 p.m. March 4, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was born Feb. 2, 1929, in Jay County, Ind., to Jessie Albert and Ethel May Cox Bailey. On Jan. 14, 1950, she married Samuel L. Grimm who died Dec. 24, 1986.
Surviving are four daughters, Linda (Dale) Boroff, Ohio City, and Sandy (Charlie) Bruggeman, Bianka (James) Jenkins and Roberta (Monte) Diegel, all of Celina; four brothers, Harold Bailey, Geneva, Ind., Jim Bailey, Marion, Ind., Edward and Robert L. Bailey, Portland, Ind.; a sister, Irma Young, Greenville; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Nancy K. Huffman; eight brothers, including Joseph, Kenneth, Melvin, Orville and Irvin Bailey; and two sisters, Ruth Ward and Nellie Shaffer.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of God, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and the Moose Lodge Auxiliary, Celina.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Richard VanHorn officiating. Burial will follow at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
