Edward Horn Sr.
Former Celina resident Edward A. Horn Sr., 76, of Poland, died April 18, 2002, at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Poland.
He was born Jan. 25, 1926, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Edward and Mae (Mare) Horn.
Surviving with his wife, Evelyn, whom he married Nov. 28, 1964, are four daughters and their husbands, Sandra and James Napieralski, Buffalo, N.Y., Sherry and John Young, Aspen, Colo., Kathy and Mike Spaulding, St. Marys, and Merrie and Don Raybuck, Poland; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sons, Pvt. Edward A. Jr., who was killed in action in Vietnam, and Mark of Celina.
He graduated from Burgard School of Aviation Mechanics in Buffalo before joining the U.S. Navy and served as a fire and rescue man aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hancock during World War II. He received a Bronze Star medal for valor during a kamikaze attack and later served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He worked as a supervisor for many years at Reynolds & Reynolds in Celina before moving to Poland. He retired from American Paper Products, where he was the plant foreman.
Funeral services were to be held at noon today at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland.
Louis Keiser
Louis W. Keiser, 71, 14660 U.S. 127, New Weston, died at 4:47 a.m. April 20, 2002, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
He was born Sept. 4, 1930, in North Star, to John and Hilda (Wehrkamp) Keiser. On April 21, 1956, he married Doris Heitkamp and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Dale and Jennifer of North Star, and a son, Dan of Greencastle, Ind.; two daughters and their husbands, Debra and Tim Hemmelgarn, North Star, and Diane and Randy Magoto, Fort Loramie; three brothers and their wives, Paul and Norma, Marvin and Wanda and Harold and Arlene, all of North Star; two sisters and their husbands, Wilma and Tom Stammen and Norma Jean and John Kaiser, and a sister, Sharon Apple, all of North Star; a sister-in-law, Betty Keiser, North Star; and seven grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Lester Keiser, and a brother-in-law, William Apple.
He retired from Avco New Idea, Coldwater, and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, North Star, and the Men's Society of the church.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David Zink officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery with military rites by the North Star American Legion.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry, and 9-10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
William Krugh
William M. Krugh, 68, 813 McKinley Road, St. Marys, died suddenly at 10:10 p.m. April 19, 2002, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton.
He was born Jan. 26, 1934, in Mount Pleasant, Mich., to William and Nellie (Merrifield) Krugh. On Nov. 22, 1952, he married Janetta Cisco and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons and their wives, Bill and Lori and Rusty and Pat, all of St. Marys; two daughters and their husbands, Tammy and Jerry Chilcoat and Jenny and Dave Luedeke, also of St. Marys; a brother and his wife, Jim and Pat of Cleveland; five sisters and their husbands, Peggy and Dan Rankin, Idaho, Glennie and Bob Kendall, Lima, Mildred and Ron Dorsten, Wapakoneta, Linda and Norval Holdren, Coldwater, and Debra and Mike Frey, St. Marys; his mother-in-law, Esther Cisco, St. Marys; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a sister, Phyllis Davis; a half brother, Robert Merrifield; four infant sisters and one infant brother.
A 1952 graduate of Memorial High School, he retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys, after 44 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and Mercer Lodge 121, Free & Accepted Masons, of St. Marys. He also was a member and current vice president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 767, St. Marys.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Patricia Minnick officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Maxine Sweigart
Maxine D. Sweigart, 81, a resident of Colonial Nursing Home, Rockford, formerly of Celina, died at 12:30 p.m. April 21, 2002, at the nursing home.
She was born Feb. 16, 1921, in Celina, to John and Mable (Rumple) Smelser. On Dec. 17, 1941, she married Walter Sweigart and he died July 29, 1999.
Surviving are two brothers, Paul and Robert Smelser, both of Celina; and two sisters, Kate Borger, Orlando, Fla., and Lois Dufer, Celina.
A brother and four sisters are deceased.
She retired from house cleaning in the St. Marys area.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. James Sweigart officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mildred Schweitzer
Mildred M. "Millie" Schweitzer, 86, of Wapakoneta, died at 12:41 p.m. April 21, 2002, at Community Hospital, Coldwater. She had resided at Celina Manor Nursing Home the past five years.
She was born Sept. 3, 1915, in Fryburg, to Alonzo J. and Emma M. (Ballweg) Nuss. On Aug. 22, 1935, she married Marion F. Schweitzer and he died March 8, 1984.
Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Jane and Bill Truesdale, Muncie, Ind., and Linda and Fred Shuster, Celina, and a daughter, Donna Desrosiers, Zephyr Hills, Fla.; a brother and his wife, James and Sandy Nuss, Dayton, and a brother, Marion Nuss, Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Lavina Gretsinger and Kathleen Koenig, both of Wapakoneta; nine grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Martha; an infant son; a brother, Virgil Nuss; and two sisters, Mary Keydoszious and Miriam Nuss.
She had done domestic work for Heinl and Son Funeral Home for 52 years and later for Long and Folk Funeral Home in Wapakoneta. She also assisted her husband as caretaker of St. Joseph Cemetery, Wapakoneta, for many years. She served as cemetery secretary from 1975 through 1996 and as a salesperson for Piqua Granite Co. from 1973 through 1989.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Fryburg, and the Catholic Ladies Sodality.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Oscar Seger officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Long and Folk Chapel of Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta. The rosary will be recited there at 8 p.m.

Maxine Sweigart

Maxine Sweigart
Services for Maxine Sweigart were 1:30 p.m. April 24, 2002, at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. James Sweigart officiated. Organist was Margaret Fisher.
Pallbearers to Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys, were Randy Williams, Jeff Smelser, Tony Spicer, Wally Stemen, Rob Patrick and John Sweigart. Allan Black was an honorary pallbearer.
Sara Kern
Sara Jane Kern, 82, formerly of Wapakoneta, died at 6:30 a.m. April 18 at the St. Marys Living Center, following an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 21, 1921, in Franklin, Ind., to Thomas R. and Jessie (Butler) Kern.
Eight cousins survive.
She had served as Auglaize County treasurer and was elected county commissioner in 1980. She had worked earlier in the office at St. Marys Woolen Mills, the Allison Division of General Motors in Indianapolis, Ind., and the Auglaize County Cooperative Extension Service. She served as executive secretary of the Wapakoneta Chamber of Commerce following retirement from the county offices.
A 1939 graduate of Memorial High School in St. Marys, she was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wapakoneta, where she taught Sunday School, conducted bible study groups and served as president of the Women's Guild. A member of the Salem and St. Johns Granges for more than 50 years, she held various offices in both organizations. She also was a member of Koneta Chapter 385, Order of Eastern Star, Wapakoneta, and the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Lima.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Howard Tobac officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Oakhill Cemetery, Lebanon, Ind., the Rev. Joseph Kern officiating.
Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, has charge of arrangements. There is no visitation.
