Libby Provci
Libby Provci, 81, of Rockford, died at 5 p.m. April 23, 2002, at the Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford, where she had been a patient since November.
She was born Aug. 11, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., to Joseph Sr. and Ann (Nosek) Havlicek. On Jan. 20, 1940, she married John Provci and he survives.
Also surviving are a son, Johnny of Celina; two daughters and their husbands, Carol E. and Stephen Cico, Decatur, Ind., and Mary Anna and Ronald Weitz, Albuquerque, N. M.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased is an infant son, a brother, Dr. Joseph Havlicek Jr., and a sister, Blanche Karovich.
She retired from Reynolds and Reynolds, Celina, in 1982. She was a charter member of St. Teresa Catholic Church and a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 508, both of Rockford. She also was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the United States and Ohio chapters of the Landing Ship Tank Association.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Brenberger officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford. A rosary service will be held there at 7:30 p.m.

Angela Topp
Angela C. Topp, 89, formerly of 5396 Kettler Road, New Bremen, died at 5:14 a.m. April 23, 2002, at Heritage Manor Nursing Center, Minster.
She was born Jan. 7, 1913, in Minster, to Herman and Catherine (Huecker) Berning. On Oct. 27, 1938, she married Walter Topp and he died Sept. 21, 1985.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Dr. Herbert and Helen of Mechanicsburg and Marvin and Linda of New Bremen, and a son, Thomas, also of New Bremen; two daughters and their husbands, Martha and Paul Ewing, Williamsport, and Doris and Jerry Carr, Gladstone, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Topp, Botkins; a sister and her husband, Linda and Roy May, St. Marys, and two sisters, Viola Bruns, Celina, and Alma Davis, St. Marys; a half brother, Lawrence Berning, California; a sister-in-law, Irene Berning, Botkins; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Deceased are a son, Donald; six brothers, Gerhard, Elmer, Herbert, Richard, Raymond and Henry Berning; and a half brother, August Kohne.
She was a homemaker and a member of Church of the Holy Redeemer, St. Ann Altar Sodality, Woodmen of the World Camp 149 and the Senior Citizens, all of New Bremen. She was a former member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1391, Minster.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Daniel Conlon officiating. Burial will be at Schwaberow Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and at the church Friday from 9:30-10:10 a.m., at which time the rosary will be recited.

Robert Bernhold
Robert C. Bernhold, 81, formerly of Minster, died at 8:14 a.m. April 24, 2002, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, where he had resided the past four weeks.
He was born June 7, 1920, in Minster, to Frank and Anna (Rahm) Bernhold. On June 6, 1942, he married Mary J. Thielker and she died Jan. 11, 2000.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Robert L. and Barbara of Minster; a daughter and her husband, Ann and Edwin Diedrich, Lake Placid, Fla., and a daughter, Linda of Las Cruces, N.M.; a sister and her husband, Norma Jean and Ray Kleinhenz, Hudson; a brother-in-law, Fred Critten, St. Marys; a sister-in-law, Enid Busse Bernhold, Dayton; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, two sisters and a great-grandchild are deceased.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, he retired from Minster Machine. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1391 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Minster.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Louis Schmit officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Minster Firing Squad.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Friday and 9-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.

Carl Bertke
Carl G. Bertke, 80, 1553 Burkettsville-St. Henry Road, St. Henry, died at 10:15 p.m. April 23, 2002, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Aug. 5, 1921, in Carthagena, to John and Josephine (Ahlers) Bertke. On Feb. 18, 1958, he married Ludwina Nerderman Evers and she died May 3, 1993.
Surviving are a brother and his wife, Clarence and Helen of Celina; a sister and her husband, Wilma and Al Bruns, Celina, and a sister, Junita Rose, Dayton; and a brother-in-law, Pete Huber, North Star.
A sister, Dorothy Huber, is deceased.
He was a farmer, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the St. Henry Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Fort Recovery.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Larry Wyen officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 9-9:45 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry.
Mary Jane Mallory
Mary Jane Mallory, 66, 2640 Celina Road, St. Marys, died at 8:30 a.m. April 24, 2002, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 14, 1936, in Wapakoneta, to Carl and Norma (Miley) Kelly. On June 19, 1954, she married Vernon Mallory and he survives.
Also surviving are four sons and their wives, Dan and Carla of Celina, Tom and Robyn and Rick and Elaine, all of St. Marys, and Tony and Star of Sidney, and a son, Todd of Lima; a daughter and her husband, Kristi and Michael Koch, St. Marys; 22 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A sister, Margaret Harshbarger, and a brother, Thomas Kelly, are deceased.
A graduate of St. Joseph High School, Wapakoneta, she had been employed at Kmart in St. Marys. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, also of St. Marys.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. David Heinl officiating. A private burial service will follow.
Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, has charge of arrangements, with a prayer service to be held there at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Mildred Fischer
Mildred B. Fischer, 101, formerly of East Fourth Street, Minster, died at 9:45 p.m. April 24, 2002, at the Dorothy Love Retirement Community, Sidney, where she had resided the past six years.
She was born March 1, 1901, in Chickasaw, to George and Mathilda (Gerwels) Clune. On Oct. 14, 1925, she married Albert B. Fischer and he died Jan. 29, 1996.
She was the last member of her family. One sister is deceased.
She retired as a clerk at Boecker's Store, a waitress at Wooden Shoe Inn and a ticket taker at Crescent Theatre, all of Minster. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, and a former member of St. Monica Ladies Sodality of the church.
Funeral Mass is 3 p.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. David Hoying officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Calling is 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
Robert Hemmelgarn
Robert L. "Hemmy" Hemmelgarn, 62, 751 Deford St., Celina, died at 7:30 a.m. April 24, 2002, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born Aug. 18, 1939, in Celina, to Wilfred and Mary (Sacher) Hemmelgarn. His mother survives.
Also surviving is his fiancee, Jacquie Whetstone.
A brother, Ronald, and a sister, Nancy, are deceased.
He retired from Charlie's Pastry Shop in Celina after 48 years of service. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Revs. Tom Brenberger and James Sager officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina.
