Terry Heitkamp
Terry G. "Chico" Heitkamp, 52, 164 N. Lincoln St., Minster, died at 6 p.m. Jan. 2, 2002 at Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas, Nev. He suffered an apparent heart attack while vacationing with his wife.
He was born July 9, 1949, in Minster, to Urban and Alvina (Kemper) Heitkamp. His mother survives in Piqua. On May 8, 1971, he married Barb Williams and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Terry Jr. and Kelly of Minster, and two sons, Tracy of Minster and Travis of Dayton; a daughter, Leah of Minster; four brothers and their wives, Donald and Shirley and Kenneth and Ronnie, all of Minster, Larry and Judy of St. Henry, and Gary and Jane of Celina; a sister and her husband, Mary Jane and Duane Bachman, Piqua; and two grandchildren.
He was employed at Minster Machine Co. A U.S. Army veteran, he formerly served as Little League and Acme League coach in Minster. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion Post 387 and United Steel Workers Local 3210, all of Minster.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Louis Schmit officiating. Burial with military honors by the American Legion will be at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
Norman Lammers
Norman A. Lammers, 76, of Glandorf, died at 6 p.m. Jan. 3, 2002 at his home.
He was born Oct. 2, 1925, in Putnam County to John B. and Emma A. (Schroeder) Lammers. On Oct. 23, 1948, he married to Irene M. Suever, who died March 9, 1985.
Surviving are three daughters and their husbands, Sharon and John Calvelage, Bluffton, Vickie and Steve Meyer, Leipsic, and Becky and Russell Diemer, Ottawa; a brother, Bernard of Ottawa; and a brother and his wife, Urban and Germaine of Ottawa; three sisters, Margaret Schroeder, Rose Honigfort and Doris Orinin, all of Ottawa; and a sister and her husband, Dolly and Ron Gornen, Toledo; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was a son-in-law, Steve Forney; two sisters, Agnes Geckle and Nettie Breisacher, and a brother, Vic.
He was in the beer business for 54 years and retired in June 1996 as general sales manager for Metropolitan Distributors of Toledo, where he serviced Shawnee Distributors of Lima, Mercer Beverage of St. Henry, Thornburgh Sales of Sandusky and Defiance Beverage of Defiance.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a former Glandorf city councilor. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glanford, and its Men's Society; a life member of Lima Knights of Columbus; member of Ottawa Eagles; life member of Lima Elks; a member of the Lima Moose; life member of Ottawa American Legion Post; and life member of the Lima Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the National and Northwest Ohio Beer Wholesalers and former member of Glandorf Rod and Gun Club.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Harold Brown officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rites to be conducted by the Ottawa American Legion and Lima VFW. The Ottawa Eagles will have a service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the parish rosary at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
Calling hours are 7-9 p.m. today and 2-9 p.m. Sunday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa.

Joseph Berning
Joseph A. Berning, 72, 239 N. Lincoln St., Minster, died at 1:05 a.m. Jan. 6, 2002 at Wood County Hospital, Bowling Green. He had been seriously ill the past five days.
He was born May 30, 1929, in St. Patrick, to Joseph A. Sr. and Rose (Knob) Berning. On Sept. 16, 1950, he married Ann E. Hart and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons and their wives, Dr. James and Joyce of Toledo, Dennis and Marilyn of New Breman, and Gregor and Susan of Columbus; one brother and his wife, Urban and Lucille of Maria Stein; three sisters and their husbands, Velma and Andy Hemmelgarn, St. Henry, June and Gene Werling, Houston, and Irene and John Gardner, Dayton; a brother-in-law, John Baltes, Versailles; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Berning, Troy, and Dorothy Berning, Tittusville, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Michael; two brothers and a sister.
He retired as a foreman at Hobart Corp., Troy. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1391, both of Minster, and the Knights of Columbus, McCartyville.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Louis Schmit officiating. Burial will follow later at the church cemetery as the body has been donated to science.

Phyllis Blythe
Phyllis M. Blythe, of Spencerville, died at 5:15 a.m. Jan. 6, 2002 at her residence.
She was born near Neptune to Glenn C. and Bessie (Lutz) Snavely. Her mother survives in Mendon. On Dec. 18. 1965, she married Sam B. Blythe, who survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Brent Thomas and Ann of Spencerville; a daughter and her husband, Marcia Leigh and John Elliott, Spencerville, and a daughter, Teresa Lynn Moeller, Lima; a brother and his wife, Glenn Jr. and Lois Snavely, Celina; a sister and her husband, Mary and Clayton Adams, Mendon; and seven grandchildren.
Deceased are two sisters, Winifred Darras and Virginia Muhlenkamp, and a grandchild.
She was a homemaker and a graduate of the former Mendon-Union High School. She formerly worked at the Nameplate and Monogram Co. in Spencerville, The Lima News and Spencerville Implement Co. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 130 and the auxiliary of Bowersock Brothers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6772 and a former member of the Young Farmers Association, all of Spencerville.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Revs. David W. Howell and Ron Hennen officiating. Burial will be at Spencerville Cemetery.
Calling is 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Phyllis Campbell
Phyllis D. Campbell, 64, 312 Lincoln St., Van Wert, died at 4:47 a.m. Jan. 6, 2002 at Van Wert Manor Nursing Home.
She was born Dec. 10, 1937, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Odean and Helen (Wheeler) Boroff. On Aug. 24, 1954, she married Donald E. Campbell and he survives.
Also surviving are three sons and their wives, Frank and Rochelle of Middle Point, Terry and Amy of Grover Hill, and Donnie and Lori of Celina; a daughter and her husband, Helen and Mike Darras, Van Wert; and nine grandchildren.
Two brothers, Frank and Phillip Boroff, and a sister, Katherine Price, are deceased.
She was employed at Borden Foods in Van Wert for 15 years.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be at Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Aileen Bernard
Aileen C. Bernard, 92, 433 Johnson Ave., Celina, died Jan. 6, 2002 at her residence.
She was born July 24, 1909, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Daniel P. and Emma C. (Funk) Courtney. On Sept. 2, 1935, she married Walter R. Bernard and he died Oct. 23, 1996.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Terry and Sue of Cincinnati; a daughter and her husband, Nancy and J. Stan Hebner, Richmond, Va., and a daughter, Sister Patrick Marie (Susan), Santa Fe, N.M.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased are four sisters.
She was a graduate of Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo. She did volunteer work for the American Red Cross, teaching home first aid classes during World War II and assisting at the Blood Bank from its inception until the 1980s. She taught first aid to local Girl Scouts and served as a nurse at their day camps and the Mercer County Fair.
She was a member of the Dwyer-Mercer County Library Board of Trustees for 40 years, serving as president for eight years and being involved in the expansion of the county library system. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar-Rosary Society, a charter member and former president of the Celina Business & Professional Women's Club and a member of the New York and Ohio State Nurses Association. She was also president of the St. Marys Deanery Council of Catholic Women and a board of directors of the Cincinnati Archdiocesan Council.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina.

Ruth Borger
Ruth M. Borger, 92, 125 Morton St., Celina, died at 7:10 p.m. Jan. 7, 2002 at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born July 29, 1909, in St. Henry, to John and Anna M. (Hemmelgarn) Borger.
Surviving are two brothers and their wives, Luke and Mary of Memphis, Tenn., and Charles and Bessie of Springfield; a sister, Anna Lee Heckler, Celina; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, Clarence; an infant brother, Ralph; and a sister, Mildred.
She was a retired cafeteria supervisor/manager at Immaculate Conception School, Celina. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, and its Altar-Rosary Society.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Richard Riedel and Deacon Thomas Huff officiating. Burial will be at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina.
