Robert Vogel
Former Auglaize County Commissioner Robert Vogel, 65, died at 2 a.m. May 16, 2001 at his home at 04576 Salem Noble Road, St. Marys.
He was born June 3, 1935, in St. Marys, to Vernon and Christina (Manzelman) Vogel. On September 25, 1954 he married Barbara Kattman, who survives.
Other survivors are four sons and their wives, Mike and Eloise, Daniel and Dorine, Jeff and Ann, and John and Melissa, all of St. Marys; a brother and his wife, John and Sue of St. Marys; and 11 grandchildren.
He was a farmer and worked at the former Sherman-Manson Company in St. Marys. He was an Auglaize County Commissioner for 12 years, a former Noble Township trustee and a member of the Auglaize County Fair Board. He was a member of the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees and its Hospital Board of Governors, and a member of the Board of Agape Ministries and the Board of Otterbein Retirement Community, both St. Marys. He was a trustee of the Auglaize County Historical Society and the Wayne Street United Methodist Church in St. Marys, where he was a member. He was a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at the church, the Revs. David Woodyard and John Wine officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is noon-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, and at the church one hour prior to services.

William Fleck
William R. "Bill" Fleck, 68, of St. Marys, died at 12:10 a.m. May 18, 2001.
He was born Feb. 13, 1933 in Metamora to Edward and Mildred (Bates) Fleck. In 1958, he married Jeanette (Rowland) Fleck, who survives.
Other survivors are two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Bob Schwyn, Marysville, and Shari and Roger Gallup, Lyons; a daughter, Julie Kale, Marysville; a sister, Marilyn Eisley; a brother, Duane Fleck; and seven grandchildren.
Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Biehl-Malone Funeral Home in Swanton, the Rev. Robert Metheny officiating. Burial will follow at the Amboy Township Cemetery.
Calling is from 2-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Gertrude Hoblet
Gertrude Caroline Hoblet, 89, Chattanooga, died at 7 a.m. May 18, 2001 at the Maplewood of Shanes Village in Rockford.
She was born Jan. 14, 1912, in Chattanooga to Henry C. and Margaret (Koch) Baker. On April 16, 1933, she married William Kenneth Hoblet, who died June 27, 1963.
Survivors are five daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Lester Strickler of Willshire, Dana and Don Hehmeyer of Dublin, Nita and Sam Hellwarth of Celina, Myra and Tom Sustae of Findlay and Carla and Alan Abell of Indian Wells, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Linda Michaud and two sisters, Arline Caywood and Clista Fahneke.
She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Willshire. She was a past member and volunteer of the Red Cross.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. John Fleming officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Minnie Barkley
Minnie H. Barkley, 98, 622 N. Cherry St., Celina, died at 7:40 a.m. May 18, 2001 at Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford.
She was born March 29, 1903, in Jonestown, Pa., to Horatio and Katherine (Betz) Grover. On Sept. 14, 1924, she married Rudolph Barkely, who died Aug. 2, 1977.
Survivors are two sons and their wives, R. William and Judy of Phoenix, Ariz. and Thomas and Velma of Akron; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased are one brother and two sisters.
She was retired from being a bookkeeper at Grover Mill in Morrow. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Celina and was a former member of the Celina Garden Club.
Services are 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the church, the Rev. Douglas Meyer officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Cincinnati.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Lehman Funeral Home in Celina and after 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Albertine Kuenzel
Albertine M. Pauck Kuenzel, 92, 209 S. Perry St., St. Marys, died at 3:45 p.m. May 18, 2001 at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys.
She was born Nov. 9, 1908, in St. Marys, to Louis and Josephine (Kuethan) Pauck. On May 8, 1932, she married David E. Kuenzel, who died Dec. 29, 1984.
Survivors are a son and his wife, John and Mimi of Arlington, Texas; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Mary Jo Kirby, a sister, Mary Pauck Armstrong, and three brothers, Louis, Fred and Charles Pauck.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church, St. Marys. She was a member of the Shakespeare Club and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority of Ohio Wesleyan University. She graduated from St. Marys Memorial High School and attended Ohio Wesleyan University.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday, at the church, the Revs. Keith R. Kivlin, David Schunk and John David Kirby officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys.

Carol Passwater
Carol Kay Passwater, 60, of Willshire, died 5:20 a.m. May 19, 2001, of natural causes at The Laurel's of Shane Hill, Rockford.
She was born May 9, 1941, in Van Wert County, to Judson Junior and Leona Madeline (Dull) Passwater, who are deceased.
Survivors are eight cousins.
Services are 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Gail Stevens-Shourds officiating. Burial is at Willshire Cemetery.

Alfred Poppe
Alfred E. Poppe, 90, 222 E. Monroe St., New Bremen, died at 1:18 p.m. May 19, 2001 at the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Oct. 8, 1910, in New Bremen, to Emil and Adeline (Koeper) Poppe.
Survivors are a brother and his wife, John and Phyllis of Celina; and a sister, Lucille Henke, New Bremen.
Deceased is a brother, Wilfred.
He was retired from Minster Machine Co. and was a member of the company's 25-Year Club.
Graveside services are 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen, the Rev. Stephen Wills officiating.
Contributions can be made to the New Bremen Emergency Squad or to the American Cancer Society.

Elmer Roediger
Elmer W. Roediger, 91, 5303 Lock Two Road, New Bremen, died at 11 p.m. May 18, 2001, at Heritage Manor Nursing Center, Minster.
He was born Feb. 23, 1910, in New Knoxville to Henry J. and Anne (Eschmeyer) Roediger. On March 30, 1933, he married Geraldine Fledderjohann, who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Gene and Grace, and a son, Carl, all of New Bremen; two sisters, Marie Dammeyer and Mildred Sudman, both of St. Marys; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two great-grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Melba, six brothers, Walter, Kenneth, Chester, Emil, Vernon and Frank, and three sisters, Ruth Johnson, Leota Kellermeyer, and Esther Hegemier.
He was retired as a farmer and timber buyer and was a member of First United Church of Christ of New Knoxville.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial is at Evangelical Protestant Cemetery, New Knoxville.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services at the church.

Virginia Toller
Rockford native Virginia Kathleen Toller, 82, Sawmill Road, Fort Loramie, died at 8:30 a.m. May 19, 2001 at Heritage Manor Nursing Center, Minster.
She was born Feb. 4, 1919, in Rockford to Luella (Robinson) and Dean Hayes. On Feb. 18, 1940, she married Frank H. Toller, who died May 18, 1990.
Survivors are a sister and her husband, Miriam and Thomas Jackson, Denton, Texas; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Joseph and Norma of Fort Loramie, and Alvin and Charlotte of Dayton; three sisters-in-law and their husbands, Margaret and Doyle Iiams, Fort Loramie, Helen and Lawrence Meyer, Anna, and Mildred and Bob Fridley, Sidney, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Laufer, Troy.
She was a retired secretary and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Fort Loramie.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Steven Shoup officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Gehret Funeral Home, Fort Loramie.

Marie Dammeyer
Marie E. Dammeyer, 94, formerly of 21 N. Main St., New Bremen, died at 4 a.m. May 21, 2001 at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys.
She was born Sept. 9, 1906, in New Knoxville, to Henry J. and Anne (Eschmeyer) Roediger. On April 17, 1929, she married Wilbert G. Dammeyer who died Jan. 19, 1994.
Survivors are a daughter and her husband, Janice and Rolf Ursin-Smith, Mill Valley, Calif., and a daughter, Carol Cook, Friendswood, Texas; a sister, Mildred Sudman, St. Marys; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are seven brothers, Walter, Kenneth, Chester, Emil, Vernon, Frank and Elmer Roediger, and three sisters, Ruth Johnson, Leota Kellermeyer and Esther Hegemier.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the former New Bremen Women's Club.
Services are 3 p.m. Thursday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, the Rev. John W. Tostrick officiating. Burial is at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
