Joy Swander
Former Celina resident Joy Beatrice Swander, 89, McMinnville, died May 25, 2001 at Providence Newburg Hospital, Ore.
She was born Oct. 18, 1911, in Alexandria, Ind., to John and Nora (Atkinson) Mathews. On Feb. 15, 1930, she married Lewis Swander who died June 2, 1999.
Survivors are a daughter and her husband, Rebecca and David Le Shana, Lake Oswego, Ore.; two sisters, Barbara Shott, Rockford, and Mildred Wellman, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and four grandchildren.
Deceased is a son, William, a brother and three sisters.
She was a Sunday school teacher for children and youth, a leader of summer Bible schools and youth programs in various churches. She was active in Friends Church, Celina, while a resident in Mercer County.
Services were held May 28 at Attrell's Memorial Chapel in Newberg, Ore.
Lorraine Blanke
New Bremen native Lorraine Blanke, 96, died at 4:11 a.m. May 29, 2001, at the Heritage Manor Nursing home in Minster.
She was born on Nov. 11, 1904, in New Bremen to Clarence and Luetta (Speckman) Laut. On Aug. 31, 1926, she married Lester H. Blanke who died on Oct. 27, 1998.
Survivors are a daughter and her husband, Edith and John Wissman, New Bremen; brother Lloyd Laut, St. Marys; two granddaughters, and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a great-granddaughter; a sister, Jeannette Bertke; a brother, Arnold Laut and a brother in infancy.
She was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen, where she had been a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. She was a member of the Women's Guild of the church, of the New Bremen Senior Citizens, the New Bremen Historic Association, the Friends of the Library, the former New Bremen Women's Club, and the Rural Letter Carrier Auxiliary. She was a homemaker and had also worked as a telephone operator at the New Bremen Telephone Co. and was a part time postal clerk.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Revs. Jeanne Spoor and John Tostrick officiating. Burial will be in the German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the church.
Contributions can be made to the church memorial fund or to the New Bremen Emergency Squad.
Werner Guggenbiller
Werner W. Guggenbiller, 80, 708 N. Plum St., died May 29, 2001, at St. Vincent Randolph Hospital, Winchestor, Ind.
He was born on March 15, 1921 in Wendalin to Vincent and Cecelia (McFarland) Guggenbiller. On Feb. 6, 1954, he married Corinne Rhodes, who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Scott and Janie of Sidney; two sons, Mark and Kelly, both of Union City, Ind.; a daughter and her husband, Crystal and Paul Dodd, Union City, Ind.; two brothers, Sylvester and Anthony; two sisters, Frances Limbert and Hilda Benanzer, all of Ohio; and four grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother and two sisters.
He worked at the Union City Body Company, and was a World War II veteran, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7084, and a member of the American Legion Orville N. Stover Post #158, Union City, Ind. He was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Union City, Ind. and the Knights of Columbus, Order #983.
Funeral Mass is at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Alan Funk officiating. Burial is at the church Cemetery, with military rites.
There is a rosary at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the church.

Noah Huston
Noah H. Huston, 77, 537 Touvelle St. Lot #49, Celina, died at 2:51 a.m. May 29, 2001 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born Oct. 22, 1923, in Chattanooga, to Jesse and Barbara (Daughtery) Huston. On April 8, 1961, he married Martha J. Dixon, who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Terry and Deb of Celina; four sons, Mike, Jim and Tim of Celina and Jeff of Lima; a daughter, Christine, Celina; two brothers, Glenn and Kenneth, both of Celina; a sister and her husband, Rosemary and Charles Hawkey, Celina, and a sister, Ruth Shadrach, Celina; two sisters-in-law, Helen, Van Wert, and Bernice, Celina; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased are three brothers, Paul, Clayton and Edward, and a sister, Christina Griner.
He was a retired laborer from UNICO, Celina.
Services are at 1:30 p.m. Friday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina. Burial will be at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.

Evelyn Marbaugh
Evelyn A. Marbaugh, 84, 1506 Meadowview Lane, Celina, died at 11:13 p.m. May 29, 2001 at the Joint Township Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born July 18, 1916, in Mendon to William and Bessie (Carmichael) Rasawuhr. On Aug. 28, 1948, she married Keith Marbaugh, who died December, 1992.
Survivors are two sons and their wives, Dennis and Elaine, and Michael and Corinne, all of Celina; a daughter, Marjorie Butcher, Kingman, Ariz.; two sisters, Beatrice Severns, St. Marys, and Audrey Haws, Dayton; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother and two sisters.
She was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber, St. Marys, and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Celina.
Services are at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the church, the Rev. James C. Wilson II officiating. Burial will be at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.

Myrtle Roberts
Myrtle Roberts, 88, 1032 W. Market St., Celina, died at 10:55 a.m. May 28, 2001 at her residence.
She was born June 29, 1912, in Bethel County, Ky., to Lish and Margaret (Riley) Johnson. On Dec. 18, 1931, she married Wesley Roberts, who died Jan. 5, 1999.
Survivors are two sons and their wives, Walter P. and Ollie, and William and Anna, all of Celina; two daughters and their husbands, Louise and Clifton Myers, and Marlene and Curtis Hill, all of Celina; 18 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are three brothers, Chester, Jimmie and Charlie; and three sisters, Florie, Emily and Nancy.
She was a homemaker.
Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Craig Mason officiating. Burial is at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.

Robert Spencer
Celina native Robert R. Spencer, 28, 383 N. Wiley St., Crestline, died at 10:24 p.m. May 27, 2001, at his home of a self-inflicted gun shot wound.
He was born on Sept. 30, 1972, in Celina, to Steven and Nina J. (Stein) Spencer. His father survives in Elida and his mother survives in Celina.
Other survivors are a son, Morgan Spencer; a brother, Steven of Celina; and a sister and her husband, Julie and Matthew Johnson, Sparta, Mich.
He worked as a supervisor for Wayne Homes, and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Celina. He was a graduate of Celina High School and Bowling Green University.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Douglas Meyer officiating. Burial is at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, and 10 a.m. Thursday until time of services at the church.
Janet Andrews
Janet Kaye Andrews, 59, of Rockford, died at 9:22 a.m., May 30, 2001, at Adams County Hospital, Decatur, Ind., of natural causes.
She was born Dec. 12, 1941, in Celina at Gibbons Hospital to Richard and Laura (Gibson) Zizelman. She married Roger Andrews, who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Rich and Stephanie of Rockford; a daughter and her husband, Paula and Randy Linn, Rockford; a brother, Kenneth Zizelman, Rockford; and six grandchildren.
She worked as a salesperson at Wal-Mart in Celina. She was a member of the Rockford Presbyterian Church.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, the Rev. Karen Long officiating. Burial will be in Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until the service starts on Saturday at the funeral home.
Russell Conover
Russell J. Conover, 84, formerly of 1410 Arbor Ave., Dayton, and a resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, died at 4:55 a.m. May 30, 2001, at Otterbein St. Marys.
He was born July 9, 1916, in Dayton, to Marshall and Charlotte (Jennings) Conover. On June 10, 1939 he married Mildred Christman, and she died on June 12, 2000.
Survivors are a son and his wife, Gerald and Linda of Celina; two half-brothers, Thomas and Dennis Conover; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two step great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Eugene and Drexel Conover.
He was a retired engineer on Special Assignment to the manufacturing division at NCR Engineering Division. He was U.S. Army Air Corps World War II veteran, a member of the Foreman's Club of Dayton, the NCR Country Club, the George Marshall Masonic Lodge, and the Antioch Shrine, the Middletown Shrine Club, the Harvest Chapter 564 of the Order of Eastern Star, an honorary Kentucky Colonel, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Dayton. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Dayton, and was a graduate of Stivers High School, Parker Vocational School, and was an apprentice at NCR.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. June 8 at the Bethany Lutheran Village, Dayton, the Revs. Rick Powell and Jerry Hogue officiating. Private family burial will be a the Woodland Cemetery in Dayton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Shrine Children's Hospital, Cincinnati, in care of Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys.
Esther Dobmeyer
Coldwater resident, Esther Dobmeyer, 87, died at 6:15 p.m. April 30, 2002, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
She was born Nov. 6, 1914, in St. Henry, to Albert and Frances (Huelsman) Sunderhaus. On June 1, 1939, she married Ray Dobmeyer, who survives.
Other survivors are two sons and their wives, Paul and Jinny of Coldwater, and Frank and Marilyn of Cincinnati; three daughters and their husbands, Katherine and Michael Barlow, Dayton, Ann and John Woodruff of Massachusetts and Kris and Jim Savage, Columbus; a sister-in-law, Jeannette Sunderhaus, Celina; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a son, Michael, two brothers, Wilfred and Tom Sunderhaus, and two sisters, Vivian Stoops and Luella Briner.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Ronald Wilker officiating. Burial is at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
