June Kill
Former Spencerville resident June V. McKinley Kill, 46, died April 29 at her home in Elida.
She was born Aug. 6, 1955, in Lima, to Aloysius C. and Rose Mary (Elwer) Kill. She was formerly married to Gary R. McKinley of Spencerville who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Jaret T. and Brenda Kay McKinley, and a son, Jacob A. McKinley, all of Spencerville; four brothers and their wives, Leroy F. and Marcia of Venedocia, Jerome J. and Sherry of Monroeville, Ind., Samuel L. and Laurie, and Stanley J. and Kimberly, all of Spencerville, and a brother, Aloysius C. Jr. of Spencerville; four sisters, Loretta D. of St. Marys, Judith M. of Decatur, Ind., Jane D. of Columbus, and Susan R. Hurles, Celina; and a sister-in-law, Darlene Overmeyer, Sherwood.
Deceased are a brother, Lavern, and a granddaughter.
She worked at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, for 23 years and was a member of the Harry J. Reynolds American Legion post 191 Auxiliary of Spencerville.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. Ron Lee officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Calling is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Georgia Schnippel
Georgia A. Schnippel, 93, formerly of Kettlersville, died at 9:40 p.m. April 29, 2002, at Wapakoneta Manor where she resided the last 5 1/2 years.
She was born Nov. 14, 1908, in Fryburg, to Allie and Anna (Freisthler) Kinstle. On March 15, 1927, she married Marcellus Schnippel who died Oct. 16, 1987.
Survivors are a daughter, Nellie McMaster, Kettlersville; a son, George of Maitland, Fla.; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sisters and a great-great-grandchild.
She was a homemaker and former substitute cook at Anna Nursing Home. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, McCartyville, and its Rosary and Altar Sodality.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Leo Hoying officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.

Robert Taylor
Robert L. Taylor, 64, 201 E. Madison St., St. Marys, died of an apparent heart attack at 4:51 p.m. April 29, 2002, in an emergency room of Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born May 24, 1937, in St. Marys, to Cornelius and Vandora (Roach) Taylor. On Nov. 7, 1963, he married Sharon Smith who died April 21, 1984.
Survivors are a live-in companion, Shirley Fortman Harrison; a son, Robert L. II of St. Marys; three daughters and their husbands, Robyn and Tom Mallory, St. Marys, and Stacy and Scott Myers and Micki and Brian Sutton, all of Wapakoneta; three brothers, Bill and Ronnie of St. Marys, and Junior of Rhode Island; a sister, Sharon Bader of Florida; and seven grandchildren.
Deceased is a brother, Lester.
He worked at the Hinton Construction Company of Celina and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member and active volunteer of Veterans of Foreign Wars post 9289 and Eagles Arie 767, both of St. Marys.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Charles Richtmyer officiating. Burial is at Resthaven Memory Gardens near Moulton.

Edith Young
Former St. Marys native Edith P. Young, 87, 1301 Myers Road, Celina, died at 9:55 a.m. April 29, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born Sept. 18, 1914, in St. Marys, to Albert and Effie (Shobe) Clark. She married James Young who died in 1978.
Survivors are a daughter, Christine Keiber, St. Marys; and two grandchildren.
Deceased is a brother, Wilbur Clark, and a grandson.
She was a homemaker and a 1933 graduate of Spencerville High School.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Charles Richtmyer officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.

Joan Poppe
Joan M. Poppe, 78, 1950 Lorain Drive, Lima, died at 9:30 p.m. April 29, 2002, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
She was born Feb. 16, 1924, in St. Marys, to Arthur and Hulda (Gerstner) Makley. On Jan. 5, 1946, he married William G. Poppe and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons and their wives, Donald and Mary of Port Clinton and Craig and Carolyn of Atlanta, Ga., and two sons, David of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mark of Wapakoneta; a daughter and her husband, Chris and Cleve White, Wilmington, N.C., and a daughter, Linda Poppe Jordan, Wapakoneta; a brother and his wife, Robert and Alma Makley, St. Marys; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was a 1941 graduate of Memorial High School, St. Marys, and a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Lima.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys. Burial will be at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.

Opal Stephenson
Opal M. VanTilburg Stephenson, 88, 1001 Clover Lane, Celina, died at 3 a.m. May 2, 2002, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born April 5, 1914, in Celina, to Floyd and Nellie (Moody) Boise. On Sept. 2, 1933, she married Dale W. VanTilburg and he died June 7, 1978. On March 26, 1983, she married Harold E. Stephenson and he survives.
Also surviving are three sons and their wives, Larry and Nancie of Celina, Bruce and Marilyn of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Keith and Rebecca of Richmond, Ind.; a daughter and her husband, Janice and Richard Garwick, Celina; a brother and his wife, Glen and Sharon Boise, Montpelier, Ind.; a sister, Wanda Heiser, Greenville; 15 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Ronald VanTilburg; a step-son and his wife, Dean and Rachel Stephenson; six brothers, Earl, Kenneth, Donald, Olen, Paul and Robert Boise; and three sisters, Edith Jeffries, Leona Freeman and Betty Adam.
She and her first husband operated an upholstery shop in Celina for more than 30 years. She was a lifelong member of Celina First Church of God, where she was a member of the church choir, the Ladies Aid and the Church of God Women's Ministries. She had been selected as Mother of the Year at church in 1985.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the church, the Rev. Richard VanHorn officiating. Burial will be at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, and after 1 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Grace Meckstroth
Grace R. Meckstroth, 82, of 109 Hoge St., New Knoxville, died at 11:30 a.m. May 3, 2002, at Valley Nursing Home in St. Marys, following an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 9, 1920, in Van Buren Township, Shelby County, the daughter of Gustave and Ruth (Harmeyer) Kuck. On Jan. 17, 1942, she married Raymond Henschen, who died May 22, 1971. On Aug. 15, 1981, she married Lawrence Meckstroth, who died July 4, 1991.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, Dennis and Joan Henschen, New Knoxville, and Gregg and Rita Henschen, Findlay; two step-sons and their wives, Daniel and Sue Meckstroth, New Carlisle, and Dwaine and Brenda Meckstroth, New Knoxville; one step-daughter and her husband, Janean and Ed Oberlander, New Knoxville; two brothers and their wives, Adrian and Marilyn Kuck, New Knoxville, and Rev. Dale and Jackie Kuck, Merrill, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister.
She was a graduate of New Knoxville High School and the Lima Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a homemaker and assisted in the operation of the family farm for many years. She also was a registered nurse at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital for 17 years and a member of the hospital guild.
She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, and the Women's Guild of the church. She was a Sunday school teacher and was actively involved in the Bible study program at the church. She was a member of the New Knoxville Civic Association and was New Knoxville High School Sports Fan of the Year in 1987.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. David Hunt and the Rev. Dale Kuck officiating. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery in New Knoxville.
Calling is from 2-9 p.m. Monday at the Vornholt-Miller Funeral Home in New Knoxville, where memorial donations may be directed to the church's Radio Broadcast Fund of the church.
William Lichtle
William J. Lichtle, 88, 130 Woodview Drive, Coldwater, died at 1:20 a.m. May 5, 2002, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
He was born June 28, 1913, in Tiffin, to William C. and Teresa (Miller) Lichtle. On May 10, 1952, he married Wilma Evers and she survives.
Also surviving are a son, William L. of Coldwater; a daughter and her husband, Susan and Rick Wyerick, also of Coldwater; and two grandchildren.
Deceased are four brothers, Clarence, Eugene, Robert and Edward Lichtle, and a sister, Mildred Wickiser.
He retired from J.C.Penney in Celina and formerly owned and operated Lichtle IGA in St. Henry. He also had worked at Huber Furniture, St. Marys, and Avco New Idea, Coldwater. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Men's Society of the church, both of Coldwater, and the Mercer County Elks Club, Celina.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Ron Wilker officiating. Burial will be at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.

Rev. Albert Schetter
The Rev. Albert E. Schetter, 79, a resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, died May 5, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, following a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 1, 1922, in Aurora, Ind., to Albert and Margaret (Weber) Schetter.
Surviving are a brother and his wife, Robert and Delores of St. Marys.
Three sisters and five brothers are deceased.
He decided to become a priest while serving three years in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was ordained May 28, 1955, after completing studies at St. Gregory and Mount St. Marys seminaries in Cincinnati. He received a bachelor of arts degree from the Athenaeum of Ohio.
His first appointment was as associate pastor at St. Edward Catholic Church, Cincinnati, in June 1950. He later served in similar posts at St. Peter in Chains Church, Anunciation Church, Our Lady of Lourdes Church, all in the Cincinnati area, Holy Family Church, Dayton, and Holy Angels Church, Sidney. He also taught at Our Lady of Mercy High School, Cincinnati, and Holy Angels High School, Sidney.
In 1972, he was appointed temporary administrator and later pastor at Holy Trinity Church, Middletown. In August 1979, he was named pastor of Precious Blood Church in Chickasaw, a post he held until retirement in November 1990.
He was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys, with Bishop Carl K. Moeddel of the Cincinnati Archdiocese officiating. The Rev. William J. Dorrmann will give the homily. Burial will be at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.

Mary Fortman
Mary Agnes Fortman, 86, formerly of 718 E. Columbia St., St. Marys, died at 10:35 p.m. May 6, 2002, at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys, where she resided.
She was born Feb. 16, 1916, in Cincinnati, to Katherine Borgert. On May 26, 1936, she married Clarence Fortman and he died Feb. 21, 1981.
Surviving are three daughters and their husbands, Mary and Ronald Joseph, St. Marys, Judy and Hardy Lewis Jr., Dallas, Texas, and Phyllis and Henry Burklo, Bryan; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Fortman Kohlhorst, St. Marys; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A son, David Fortman, is deceased.
She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Altar-Rosary Society and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia, all of St. Marys.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. David Heinl officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.
