Eugene Church
Eugene B. Church, 71, of Lima, died at 6:05 p.m. May 7, 2002, at Kettering Medical Center following a two-month illness.
He was born Sept. 22, 1930, in Cridersville, to Bernard and Nellie Church. On Dec. 24, 1952, he married Patricia L. McKinley and she died April 10, 1994. On Sept. 6, 1996, he married Sonia Lee Youngworth Trego and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Michael J. Sr. and Nancy J. of Sidney, and a son, Dan of Lima; a daughter and her husband, Cindy and Keith Fischer, Dayton; two stepsons and their
wives, Ted E. and Brenda S. Trego Jr., Celina, and Terry and Anne Bechdolt, Cridersville; a stepdaughter and her husband, Mary and Bob Lee, Delphos, and a stepdaughter, Peggy Johns, Wapakoneta; six grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
A 1947 graduate of Cridersville High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from the Lima Westinghouse Small Motors Division after 33 years of service as a machine operator in the Aerospace Division. He had also worked for Omar Bakery in Lima.
He was a longtime member of Harry J. Reynolds American Legion Post 191, Spencerville, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54, Lima.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. Ron Lee officiating. Burial will be at Spencerville Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6772, both of Spencerville.
Calling is 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
John Cheeseman
John R. Cheeseman, 76, 488 Park Road, Fort Recovery, founder of John Cheeseman Trucking in Fort Recovery, died at 6:15 p.m. May 9, 2002, at The Gardens at Celina.
He was born Oct. 1, 1925, in Portersville, Pa., to the Rev. George and Bess (Laderer) Cheeseman. On Feb. 4, 1947, he married Doris Hildbold and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Max and Jennifer of Fort Recovery; a daughter and her husband, Jill and John Bowling, Bourbonnais, Ill.; a brother and his wife, George and Grace of Portersville; a sister, Mary Baldor, Miami, Fla.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A brother, Charles, is deceased.
He graduated from Muddy Creek Township High School in Portersville and attended LeTourneau University, Long View, Texas. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Pacific Campaign. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Fort Recovery, the Ohio American Legion and the American Truck Historical Society.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at the church, the Revs. John Perkins, Verl Ballmer and Dr. John Bowling officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Springhill Cemetery, Fort Recovery.
Calling is noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Buddy Sea Ltd., 1303 Commerce St., Fort Recovery, a building where he spent many hours restoring vintage trucks, and noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the church.

Jerry Kohn
Jerry Dean Kohn, 64, 206 N. Shane St., Ohio City, died at 8:10 a.m. May 9, 2002, at his residence. Death was due to natural causes.
He was born July 24, 1937, in Van Wert County, to Floyd Lee and Gladys Marie (Byer) Kohn. On July 24, 1960, he married Janice Elaine Adams and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Brent and Lori of Ohio City; a daughter and her husband, Brenda and Jeff Muhlenkamp, Rockford; two brothers and their wives, Max and Ellen of Ohio City and Terry and Teresa of Hastings, Mich., and a brother, Bobby Joe of Ohio City; two sisters and their husbands, Billie and Don Hurless, Van Wert, and Bonnie and Allen Grib-ler, Goodyear, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.
Two sisters, Ganell Edsall and Juanita Parrish, are deceased.
He retired in 1995 after 30 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service as a substitute and a rural carrier. He also owned and operated Jerry's Barber Shop in Ohio City for 21 years. He had worked at National Seal in Van Wert and Excello in Lima following high school.
He was a 1955 graduate of Ohio City-Liberty High School and a 1959 graduate of Andrews Barber College in Toledo. He served as Ohio City mayor from 1971-1974. In addition to serving as an Ohio City councilor and board of public affairs member, he was a volunteer Ohio City fireman from 1959-1971.
His memberships include the Ohio City Church of God, Eureka Lodge 592 and Van Wert Chapter 48, Order of Eastern Star. He was a former member and past noble grand of Wide Wake Lodge, International Order of Oddfellows, Ohio City. An avid bowler, he served as secretary of several leagues for 20 years.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Matt Braun officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, Ohio City.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary Wilson
Mary C. Wilson, 85, of Rockford, died at 8:40 p.m. May 8, 2002, at Van Wert County Hospital.
She was born July 7, 1916, in Ossian, Ind., to Levi E. and Bernice M. (Mahnensmith) Osborn. On Aug. 15, 1936, she married Fermin W. Wilson and he died Dec. 21, 1992.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Kirk and Georgianna of Rockford; and two daughters and their husbands, Charmaine and Robert Hoffman, Decatur, Ind., and Sylvia and James Avery, Griffin, Ga.
She retired as a clerk at Jones Jewelry in Celina and previously worked at Huffy Corp., also of Celina. She had served several years as a member of the Rockford Water Board and was a member of Rockford United Methodist Church and the Women's Association of the church.
Services are 1 p.m. Sunday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, the Rev. Michael Berne officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.
Calling will be 2-8 p.m. Saturday and noon-1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Rita Dell
Rita J. Dell, 80, of Kettering, a former Chickasaw resident, died May 9, 2002, at Kettering Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 9, 1921, near Chickasaw, to Ferdinand and Rosa (Clune) Schwieterman. On June 23, 1945, she married Herbert J. Dell and he died March 3, 1999.
Surviving are three sons and their wives, James and Emily, Kenneth and Jackie and Michael and Helen, and two sons, Richard and Carl, all of Dayton; a daughter, Marilyn Anderson, also of Dayton; two sisters and their husbands, Martha and Myron Huelsman, St. Henry, and Mary Jane and Doyle Birt, Coldwater; a brother-in-law, Norbert Dell, Dayton; three sisters-in-law, Leona Schwieterman, Celina, Mary Schwieterman, Chickasaw, and Mildred Schockey, Riverside; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was a founding member of Ascension Catholic Church, Dayton.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Dayton.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Monday at Westbrock Funeral Home, Dayton. A prayer service will be held there at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Clarence Miller
Clarence R. Miller, 81, 12017 Ohio 362, Minster, died May 8, 2002, at his residence. Death was due to natural causes.
He was born June 10, 1920, in Richmond, Ind., to Don and Margaret (Kenney) Miller. On Sept. 3, 1946, he married Florence Una Salsbury and she died March 8, 1981.
A brother and a sister survive.
He was a retired Teamsters truck driver and a security guard at Crown Equipment Corp., New Bremen, and Honda of America Manufacturing Inc., Anna. He was a member of the Lake Loramie Improvement Association and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1391, Minster.
Services are 11 a.m. today at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
Phil Pfeffenberger
Philip Pfeffenberger, 64, 1137 Indiana Ave., St. Marys, died unexpectedly May 11, 2002, at his residence. Death was due to natural causes.
He was born Feb. 26, 1938, in Celina, to Louis and Rose (Axe) Pfeffenberger. They survive in St. Marys. On Nov. 11, 1978, he married Judith Adams Schmieder and she survives.
Also surviving are a stepson, Brian Schmieder, New Bremen; two brothers and their wives, Mike and Sandy of Troy and Dennis and Sue of St. Marys; a sister and her husband, Karen and Mike Showalter, Lima; his mother-in-law, Helen Adams, a resident of Auglaize Acres Nursing Home, Wapakoneta; and two stepgrandchildren.
A 1956 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School, he had worked at the former Jasperson Supply Co. in St. Marys and was employed currently at RT Industries.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, all of St. Marys, and a member and trustee of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 767, also of St. Marys. He was a former St. Marys councilor and had been active in St. Marys Little League, serving more than 25 years as a coach, umpire and league president, and was active in the National Little League Association.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David Heinl officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys.

Donna Stucky
Donna G. Stucky, 77, formerly of 8718 U.S. 127, Celina, died at 9:35 a.m. May 11, 2002, at Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford.
She was born July 19, 1924, in Geneva, Ind., to James and Ruth (Callihan) Mann. On Dec. 21, 1941, she married Ralph Stucky and he died Nov. 10, 1997.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Michael and Patty of Coldwater; two daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Ernest Kuntz, Berne, Ind., and Sue and Dave Highley, Celina; a brother, Tom Weaver, Geneva, Ind.; a sister, Annabelle Parrett, also of Geneva; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Tabor Church of God, Celina.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Richard VanHorn officiating. Burial will be at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Wilbert Sudman
Wilbert G. Sudman, 88, 01944 Southland Road, New Bremen, died at 3:20 a.m. May 11, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Nov. 21, 1913, near New Bremen, to Edward and Fredonia (Brueggeman) Sudman. On Sept. 8, 1932, he married Ethel Ahlers and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons and their wives, Kenneth and Regina and Lee and Lynda, all of St. Marys; a daughter and her husband, Beverly and Harold Donovan, Celina; a brother and his wife Willis and Evelyn of Sun City, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Alfred Sudman, and a great-grandson are deceased.
He had worked at the former New Bremen Broom Factory for seven years. He also did custom cabinetry work and was engaged in farming. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen, and had served on the St. Marys School Board, including four years as president.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church, the Revs. John Tostrick and Allen Sudman officiating. Burial will be at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Raymond Winner
Raymond A. Winner, 94, 153 S. Frankfort St., Minster, died at 10:45 p.m. May 12, 2002, at Heritage Manor Nursing Center in Minster. He had been a patient there since January.
He was born June 6, 1907, in Egypt, to Anton and Pauline (Frilling) Winner. His stepmother was the former Anna Garmann. On Nov. 17, 1934, he married Erma M. Zumberge and she died March 25, 1993.
Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Alvera and Vernon Eilerman, Minster; two brothers and their wives, Clarence and Clara and Orville and Annie, all of Minster; and two sisters and their husbands, Helen and Urban Bornhorst, Fort Loramie, and Marcella and Lawrence Mathes, Dayton.
One brother and two sisters are deceased.
He had worked for J.B. Ahrns Trucking Co. before taking ownership in 1946 and changing the name to Winner Brothers Trucking Co. After selling the firm to General Highway in 1963, he continued to work there until retiring in 1969. He also worked as a truck driver for Minster Canning Co.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1391 and Cataract Fire Co., all of Minster, and the Knights of St. John, Fort Loramie. He also worked at the K of C Friday night bingo games.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Louis Schmit officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
