Raymond Hemmelgarn
Raymond J. Hemmelgarn, 91, 6971 Ohio 705, New Weston, died May 13, 2003, at his residence.
He was born March 15, 1912, in St. Henry, to John and Mary Kothman Hemmelgarn. On Oct. 7, 1978, he married Dorothy H. Groff who survives.
Also surviving is a brother, Herman H. of St. Henry.
He was a former restaurant owner and U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and the Men's Society, both of North Star, and St. Henry American Legion Post 648.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. David Zink officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry, and 9-10:15 a.m. Friday at the church.
Max Lincoln
Former Celina resident and mayor Max John Lincoln, 80, 33A Consistory St., Springfield, died at 8:15 p.m. May 12, 2003, at the Masonic Home in Springfield.
He was born June 12, 1922, in Celina, to John F. and Bess Pumphrey Lincoln. On June 9, 1947, he married Elizabeth R. Robinson who survives.
Also surviving are a son, John (Cindy) of Naperville, Ill.; four daughters, Cindy Lincoln and husband Brian Keegan, Lima, Kathy Lincoln and husband Tom Tomczyk and Debbie Lincoln and husband Dan Kennedy, all of Salem, Ore., and Betsy Lincoln-Shangle, Burr Ridge, Ill.; a brother, Lowell of Tempe, Ariz.; and 10 grandchildren.
A sister, Vivian Saber, is deceased.
He worked in quality control at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in St. Marys for 18 years and retired from Motor Wheel, a division of Goodyear, in Michigan. He served as mayor of Celina for four years in the 1960s and served on city council for eight years during the 1950s. He was a former member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Celina.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Robert Metheny officiating. Burial will follow at Swamp College Cemetery.
Calling is after noon Friday at the funeral home.

Martha Dinkel
Former Celina resident Martha Gaw Dinkel, 50, of Cincinnati, died May 12, 2003, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati. Death was due to natural causes.
She was born Feb. 11, 1953, in Garrett, Ind., to George and Dorris Gaw. On June 21, 1980, she married the Rev. James R. Dinkel who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Stephen James of Cincinnati, and a brother, David Gaw of Orlando, Fla.
Deceased are a son, Jesse Carley, and a brother, Stephen Gaw.
She was an early intervention specialist for the Hamilton County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disability. She previously worked for the Montgomery County Board of MR/DD as a classroom teacher, the Logan County Board of MR/DD as a preschool teacher and the Clermont County Board of MR/DD.
A 1971 graduate of Celina High School, she received a bachelor of science degree in social work from Wright State University in 1975. She was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Cincinnati, where she was a bell choir member and taught catechism. She was a committee member for Boy Scout Troop 867 and worked with Dan Beard Council.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Cincinnati. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Galion.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at E.C. Nurre Funeral Home, Amelia.

Dorothy Johnson
Former Celina resident Dorothy Mae Johnson, 74, of Newman, Ill., died at 1 p.m. May 6 at a hospital in Champaign, Ill.
She was born Jan. 1, 1929, in Dayton, to Ray and Edith Martz Runyon. Her husband, Dr. Max Johnson, died in 1996.
Surviving are four sons, Gregory and Wade, both of Chicago, Ill., and Christopher and Steve, both of Newman; a daughter, Phyllis Johnson, also of Newman; two sisters, Ruth Smelser, Celina, and Alice Brewer, Mesa, Ariz.; a half sister, Hazel Huff, Wilmington; 8 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Two sisters and four half brothers are deceased.
She had worked as a nurse in her husband's medical practice.
Services were held Monday at Sacred Heart Church in Villa Grove, Ill. Graveside services are 2 p.m. today at St. Joseph Cemetery, Decatur, Ind.
Betty Mihm
Betty Dean Mihm, 76, of Rockford, died at 8 a.m. May 12, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was born July 3, 1926, in Mercer County, to Dillon and Goldie Watkins Jordan. On Oct. 12, 1946, she married Ernest Mihm who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Diane (Dave Jr.) Sheets, Mendon, and Elaine (Jim) Geyer, Gallaway; and a grandson.
She was a homemaker and a member of Rockford United Methodist Church, the Women's Organization of the church and the Order of Eastern Star.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, the Rev. Mike Berne officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Wolfgang Vogel
Wolfgang Vogel, 62, of Celina, died May 10, 2003, at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nev., following a heart attack.
He was born March 26, 1941, in Frankfurt, Germany, to Petko and Elizabeth Chorev. He immigrated to Chicago, Ill., at the age of 18.
Surviving with Carol, his wife of 39 years, are two sons, Ken (Lisa) Ashley and Alex (Julie) Vogel; a daughter, Heidi Teeters; a brother, Carl of Germany; two sisters, Maryann Desch, also of Germany, and Lottie McClean, Springfield, Ill.
He retired from Huffy after 20 years of service and had worked as a professional meat cutter. He played competitive soccer, ice hockey and softball in his younger years.
In lieu of a memorial service, a picnic for family and friends will be held in his honor at the home of a sister-in-law, Teresa Klosterman.

Bessie Snavely
Bessie P. Snavely, 99, 106 N. Green St., Mendon, died at 10:15 p.m. May 10, 2003, at Colonial Nursing Center, Rockford.
She was born Oct. 22, 1903, in Mercer County, to Benjamin Franklin and Faith Howick Lutz. On Nov. 29, 1922, she married Glenn C. Snavely who died March 24, 1974.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary (Clayton) Adams, Mendon; a brother, Dan Lutz, Kerman, Calif.; a stepsister, Dorothy Hartung, Celina; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Glenn J.; three daughters, Winifred Darras, Virginia Muhlenkamp and Phyllis Blythe; five brothers, Harold, Roger, Cliff, Marion and Tom Lutz; three sisters, Mary Simon, Grace Johnson and Margaret Denney; a stepmother, Irene Lutz; two stepbrothers, Clarence and Hugh Burnett; and two grandchildren.
A homemaker, she formerly worked at Westinghouse Electric, Lima, and at several restaurants in the Mendon area. She was a member of the First Church of God, Ladies Aide and Quilting Club, all of Mendon.
Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Mendon, the Rev. Glenn Masser officiating. Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Eleanor Tumbush
Eleanor E. Tumbush, 89, 314 E. Walnut St., Coldwater, died at 1:30 p.m. May 9, 2003, at the St. Marys Living Center.
She was born Aug. 28, 1913, in Burkettsville, to Jacob and Elizabeth Knapke Schoen. On May 13, 1939, she married Julius Tumbush who died Dec. 2, 2000.
Surviving are two sons, Richard (Janelle) of Montezuma and James of Coldwater; a daughter, Joan (Denis) Gasson, St. Marys; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Deceased are an infant son, Joseph; four brothers and six sisters.
She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Altar Society, both of Coldwater.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Tom Mannebach officiating. Burial will be at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Monday and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
Virgil Vorhees
Virgil Vorhees, 80, 127 E. Warren St., Celina, died at 12:30 a.m. May 9, 2003, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Rossburg, to Russell E. and Goldie M. Silvers Vorhees. On May 6, 1950, he married Maxine Kuhn who died July 13, 2001.
Surviving are three sons, Mark, Randy (Bonnie) and Scott, all of Celina; three daughters, JoAnn (Ned) Pryer, Sue (Tom) Sanders and Beth, also of Celina; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Other survivors include a brother, Jack D. (Sandy) of Celina, and four sisters, Onnalee (Ed) Meyers, Lansing, Mich., Helen (Robert) Sneddon, Celina; Pat (Bud) Shively, Convoy, and Karen (Michael) Bryant, Monroe, Mich.
Deceased are four sisters, Doris Mae West, Irene Goodpaster, Betty Huston and Norma Smitley.
He had been employed by the City of Celina and owned and operated Kohns News Agency for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, American Legion Post 210, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5713 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1291, all of Celina.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Jim Seibert officiating. Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina. A rosary service is planned at 8 p.m.

Glenn Powell
Glenn L. Powell, 79, West Main Street, Coldwater, died at 2:30 p.m. May 8, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Muskegon, Mich., to Olas and Rose (Dodd) Powell. On June 28, 1947, he married Marie Froning, who survives.
Also surviving are six sons: John (Wanda) of Celina, Gene of Coldwater, Dennis (Jennifer) of Pataskala, Larry of Celina, Mike (Cathy) of Celina, and Brian (Tina) of Coldwater; four daughters: Dorothy (Bill) Puthoff, Chickasaw, Lisa (Jeff) Kremer, Coldwater, Lora (Roger) Wellman, Coldwater, and Sandy (Dan) Feltz, Coldwater; a brother, Jack (Carol) of Florida; a sister, Thelma (Bob) Smith, Celina; 28 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Herman and Olas Jr.
Retired from New Idea Coldwater after 38 years, he was a life member of St. Marys Veterans of Foreign Wars and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater, the Rev. Eric Fee officiating. Burial is at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Calling is 2-7 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
