Louis B. Meyer
Louis B. Meyer, 71, Luella Street, Newport, died at 9:47 p.m. May 3, 2003, in the emergency room at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney.
He was born July 11, 1931, in Versailles, to Frank and Francis Homan Meyer. On May 9, 1953, he married Delores Prenger who survives. Also surviving are a son, Robert J. (Margaret) of Covington; two daughters, Kathleen (John) Ventura and Shirley, both of Sidney; five brothers, Al of Russia, Herman (Alma) of Fort Loramie, Jerry (Connie) of Sidney, Carl (Linda) and Paul (Mary Jean) both of Versailles; a sister, Alfreda (Eugene) Guggenbiller, St. Henry; and 16 grandchildren.
A sister, Irene, is deceased.
He retired from dairy farming in 2001 and worked at New Idea in Coldwater for 17 years. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Newport, where he sang in the choir for 41 years. He was a member of the Meyer Wedding Band, playing guitar and called square dances for nearly 20 years.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Anthony Cutcher officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 3-9 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at Gehret Funeral Home, Fort Loramie.

Julie Parks
Former Celina resident Julie Parks, 27, 1415 N. 500 E., Union City, Ind., died May 4, 2003, after being hit by a freight train near her home. See story on page 3.
She was born June 6, 1975, in Coldwater, to James and Melanie May Langenkamp. They survive in Celina. Her husband, Gregory Allen Parks, survives in Portland, Ind.
Also surviving are two sons, Devon James and Peyton Lee, and a daughter, Mackenzie Lynn, all of Portland; and a brother, Andy Langenkamp, Celina.
She was an employee of Union City Body Co. and a member of Erastus Fort Recovery United Methodist Church.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Robert Dungan officiating. Burial will be at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina.
John Speck
St. Henry native John Speck, 74, of West Milton, died May 4, 2003, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy.
He was born Aug. 23, 1928, in St. Henry, to John and Elizabeth Buehler Speck. His wife of 47 years, Leona Eilerman, survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Vicki (Kevin) Hawse, Bev (Tim) Todd and Jeanne (Mike) Adams; two brothers, Elmer (Margie) of Coldwater and Richard (Edie) of St. Henry; three sisters, Vera (Pete) Kostoff, Kettering, Esther Wourms, St. Henry, and Leona Meyer, Centerville; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Deceased are two brothers, Ray and Clarence Speck, and a sister, Sally Eifert.
He retired from Western & Southern in 1983. A Korean War veteran, he was a member of Transfiguration Catholic Church, the Men's Sodality and American Legion Post 487, all of West Milton.

Paul Westerbeck
Paul A. Westerbeck, 82, 118 W. Pearl St., New Bremen, died at 6 p.m. May 4, 2003, at his daughter's home near New Knoxville.
He was born Oct. 21, 1921, near New Bremen, to Albert and Rebecca K. Boesel Westerbeck. On April 27, 1946, he married Rita M. Grilliot who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Mike (Merrie) of Nashville, Tenn., Richard (Karen) of New Bremen, and Ralph (Judy) of Oswego, N.Y.; seven daughters, Karen (Mike) Diffie, Las Vegas, Nev., Susan (Ron) Snyder, Minster, Nancy Muether, Celina, Rebecca (Ned) Vordermark and Mary Ann (Jerry) Smith, both of New Knoxville, Teresa (David) Legg, Saginaw, Mich., and Donna (Bill) Woehrmyer, New Bremen; a sister, Irene Nuesmeyer, New Knoxville; 34 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, James; a brother, Arnold; and three sisters, Wilhelmina Niekamp, Esther Woehler and Marie Schwaberow.
A self-employed carpenter and woodworker, he also sold Rainbow sweepers for many years. A 1939 graduate of New Bremen High School, he was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, New Bremen, and the New Bremen Rod and Gun Club.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Stephen Wills officiating. Burial will be at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

Lucille Bollinger
Lucille A. Bollinger, 91, of Rockford, died at 11:45 p.m. May 4, 2003, at Maplewood of Shane's Village, Rockford.
She was born Feb. 14, 1909, in Rockford, to Luther and Maude Brookhart Adams. On Aug. 26, 1929, she married Vilas Bollinger who died Jan. 1, 1991.
Surviving are a son, Richard (Alice) of Berne, Ind.; four daughters, Esther (Denton) McMahn, Huntsville, Ala., Miriam (Donald) Baer, Paulding, Martha (Robert) Bruns, Rockford, and Sharon (Gary) Kimmel, Celina; a sister-in-law, Shirley Adams, Lima; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Deceased are a son, Robert; two grandsons and a great-great-granddaughter.
She attended Rockford United Methodist Church.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, the Rev. Mike Berne officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Urban Post
Urban H. Post, 82, 810 Carmel Church Road, Celina, died at 4:50 a.m. May 4, 2003, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
He was born Feb. 3, 1921, in Celina, to William H. and Antionette Buetle Post. On Jan. 29, 1949, he married Opal Fleming who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Paul of Houston, Texas, Jim (Becky) of Decatur, Ind., and Mike (Laura) of Celina; a daughter, Bonnie (Jim) Bruggeman, Fort Recovery; five brothers, Robert, Thomas (Ann), Harold (Mary Margaret) and Richard (Rosie), all of Celina, and Donald (Mary Ann) of Coldwater; a sister, Alice Marie (Urban) Grevenkamp, Celina; and six grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Daniel, and two brothers, William Jr. and Ralph.
A retired farmer, he was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Wintergarden, Fla., and the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Loyal Order of Moose, all of Celina.
Private services will be held at a later date. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, has charge of arrangements. There is no visitation.
Tana Wenning
Tana L. Sweigart Wenning, 54, 504 Southway Drive, St. Marys, died at 8:57 a.m. May 3, 2003, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. Death was due to cancer.
She was born Sept. 4, 1948, in Celina, to Harold and Helen Elsea Fry. Her father survives in St. Marys. On July 7, 1972, she married Dennis Wenning who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, James (Jane) Sweigart and John Sweigart, both of Celina, and Jeff (Kim) Sweigart, St. Marys; a stepson, Neil Wenning, Rockford; two stepdaughters, Maria Wenning, Rockford, and Yvonne Wenning, Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.
Other survivors include two brothers, Arlen (Kathy) Fry and Louis (Susan) Fry, St. Marys; and three sisters, Brenda (Mike) Fishbaugh, Celina, Mary (Bill) Wisener, St. Marys, and Sandy (Jim) Wieman, New Bremen.
A daughter, Jennifer Sweigart, and a brother, Lee Fry, are deceased.
She was employed as a cashier supervisor at K-Mart in St. Marys. She previously worked at Huffy in Celina. She was a member of Calvary Christian Fellowship, St. Marys.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Michael Spaulding officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Vera Ahlden
Vera E. Ahlden, 91, of McHenry, Ill., died at 11:15 p.m. May 1, 2003, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
She was born April 8, 1912, in Buckley, Minn., to Hid Beckman and his wife, whose maiden name was Henikey. Her husband, Rudolf Ahlden, died Jan. 9, 1967.
Surviving are a son, Ardell of McHenry; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was a housewife and member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Woodworth, Ill.
Graveside services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church in Illinois, the Rev. James Ritter officiating.

Carl Sell
Carl A. Sell, 85, of Rockford died at 5 p.m. May 1, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 11, 1917, in Dublin Township, to Samuel O. and Zelma Boice Sell. On May 3, 1942, he married Martha A. Akom who died March 24, 1950. On June 6, 1951, he married Pauline L. Book who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Larry (Theresa) of Bluffton, Ind., Dr. Jerry (Connie) of Rockford, Roger of Willshire, and Kenneth (Soon-ni) of Orange Park, Fla.; two brothers, Lowell (Martha) of Wapakoneta and Paul (Betty) of Bluffton, Ind.; a sister, Ruth Smith, Georgia; nine grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
A brother, Robert, and a sister, Wanna, are deceased.
He worked as a shop foreman, mechanic and salesman for the Ford Motor Co. Tractor & Implement Division; owned and operated a farm equipment dealership; and managed Ridgeway Motel in Van Wert and Western 6 Motel in Tempe, Ariz. He also worked six years as a desk clerk and as an accounting clerk for Fred Harvey at Grand Canyon, Ariz. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
A Rockford High School graduate, he obtained additional training at the Ford Motor Co. School and Universal Motel Schools, Miami Beach, Fla. He was a member of Otterbein United Brethren Church (now New Horizons Community Church), Rockford, and the Auglaize County Sheriff's Auxiliary. He also was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5713, Celina, and a former member of Ohio Flying Farmers.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Robert Loar officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
