Anna Hemmelgarn
Anna M. Hemmelgarn, 88, 2100 Celina Road, St. Marys, died at 3:20 a.m. June 10, 2001, at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys.
She was born Aug. 23, 1912, in Cranberry Prairie, to Casper and Elizabeth (Geise) Reier. In November, 1933, she married Reubin B. Hemmelgarn, who preceded her in death.
Survivors are a son and his wife, Lyn and Mary of Bellefontaine; a son, Kenneth of Celina; two daughters and their husbands, Alice Propst and Don Kill, Wapakoneta, and Doris and Robert Makley, St. Marys; a sister, Alvina Heyne, Celina; 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.
Deceased are five brothers, Leo, Fred, William, Lawrence and Herman Reir; and a sister, Agnes Siefring.
She was a retired home nursing practitioner.
No calling or services will be held. Her body has been donated to the Ohio State University, for use in anatomical study.
Arrangements were handled by Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys.

Anthony Koester
Anthony A. "Squidd" Koester, 13, 3699 Wabash Road, Fort Recovery, died at 8:08 p.m. June 9, 2001, due to heart complications, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
He was born Nov. 11, 1987, to Alan and Angela (Heitkamp) Koester, who survive.
Other survivors are four brothers, Derek, Mathias, Eli and Thomas, and two sisters, Mariah and Erin, all of Fort Recovery; Grandparents, Melvin and Helen Heitkamp, Fort Recovery; grandmother and her husband, Edna and Bob Stout, Celina.
Deceased is his grandfather, Ralph Koester.
He was at student at Fort Recovery Elementary School, where he participated in school's Show Choir and SMART (Students Making a Right Turn). He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Peter.
Funeral Mass is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Kenneth Alt officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home.

Olive Leighner
Olive Leighner, 90, Rockford, died at 12:20 a.m. June 11, 2001, at The Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford.
She was born June 2, 1911, in Chillicothe, to John Asa Logan Book and Martha Luella Raver Book. On Feb. 7, 1940, she married Howard Edward Leighner, who died in May, 1975.
Survivors are two sons and their wives, Dave and Linda of Rockford, and Edward and Joyce of Willshire; a daughter and her husband, Mary Lou and David Fisher, Cecil; a daughter-in-law, Alice Leighner, Wallingford, Conn.; three brothers, Russel Book, Rockford, and Rea and William Book, both of Van Wert; three sisters, Mae Thomas, Mendon, Helen Hurless and Pauline Sill, Rockford; nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a son, Leslie Howard Leighner, and a brother, John Book.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Otterbein Evangelical United Brethren Church, Rockford. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Club.
Services are at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, the Rev. James Sturgeon officiating. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.
Calling at from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to Mercer County Hospice, Coldwater.

Mildred Phillips
Mildred Jeanette Phillips, 77, 812 Hemlock Road, Celina, died at 8:30 p.m. June 9, 2001, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born Oct. 13, 1923, in RedKey, Ind., to Abigail Shoemaker and Don Miller.
Survivors are a son and his wife, Steve and Rita of Celina; and three daughters and their husbands, Tina and Chuck Brewer, New Bremen, Becky and Scott Klopfleish, Allen, Texas, and Donetta and Jim Butcher, Tipp City; a brother and his wife, Bob and Louann Beall, Texas; a sister, Elanor Reynard, Albany, Ind.; eight grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and 7 stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a baby-sitter, and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Celina.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. George Hubbell Jr. officiating. Burial is at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina.

Lowell Piper
Lowell "Bud" Piper, 84, 8127 North St. Neptune, Celina, died at 3:40 a.m. June 9, 2001, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Aug. 6, 1916, in Mercer County, to Archie and Elma Henne Piper. On June 16, 1936, he married Ada Martin, who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Delbert and Beverly of Mendon; a son, Kurt of Celina; a brother and his wife, Meredith and Jean Piper, Celina; a sister, Ellen Wolfe, Celina, nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a daughter-in-law, Sue Piper, and a grandson, Rob Piper.
He was a retired carpenter and a farmer.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Randy Christian officiating. Burial is at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Eugene Weber
Eugene J. Weber, 71, 301 N. Second St., Coldwater, died June 9, 2001, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born April 20, 1930, in Landeck, to Frank X. and Mary (Honigford) Weber. On Aug. 28, 1954, he married Eileen M. Fruend, who survives.
Other surviv-ors are a son and his wife, Mike and Amy of Yorkville, Ill.; two daughters and their husbands, Maria and Kenneth Lee, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Karen and Joseph Meyer, Marion; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Weber, Muncie, Ind.; five brothers and their wives, Don and Audrey of Estes Park, Colo., Art and Connie of Fort Wayne, Ind., Leonard and Margie of Detroit, Mich., Kenneth and Bettie of Greenville, R.I., and Larry and Fran of Barnum, Minn.; a brother, the Rev. Herbert Weber, Mansfield; five sisters and their husbands, Mildred and Mike Rahrig, Delphos, Celeste and Roger Geise, Delphos, Judy and Vern Fischer, Delphos, Dolores and Jim Spieles, Wauseon, and Lucille and Frank Fuche, Brandon, Fla.; a sister, Sr. Helen Weber, C.PP.S., Aurora; and 12 grandchildren.
He was a retired Coldwater High School teacher, having served as a coach and athletic director. He was an adjunct instructor at the Wright State University-Lake Campus. He was president of the Coldwater Teachers Organization and was a track official for more than 30 years. He was a member of Coldwater's village council for 16 years. He was also a member and past Grand Knight and past District Deputy of the Coldwater Knights of Columbus, a past member and Exalted Ruler of the Mercer County Elks. He was a member of the Coldwater Lions, and founder and advisor of the Coldwater Leo Club. He was the president of the College Community Arts Council, and was president of the National Marriage Encounter, Maria Stein.
A Korean War veteran, he was a member of the Mercer County Veterans Service Commission, a member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) Post 5135, Coldwater, a member and past commander of American Legion Post 470, Coldwater, and a member and service officer of Amvets Post 91, Celina. He was a trustee of the American Legion Buckeye Boys State.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, and the church's Holy Name Society. He was a lector and lay minister at the church.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Revs. Herbert Weber and Ronald Wilker officiating. Burial is at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Calling is from 2-9 p.m. today and from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Donald McBride
Rockford native Donald E. McBride, 78, of Brookville, died June 10, 2001 at Brookhaven Nursing & Care Center.
He was born July 29, 1922, in Rockford to James E. and Joanna (Williams) McBride. He married Margaret I. Matthews who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Richard and Christy of Brookville; a daughter and her husband, Cheryl J. and Dale Strunks, Brookville; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Gary Eugene, a sister, Bessie, and brothers, Burris, Jess, Earl and Harold.
He was retired from General Telephone Company and the State of Ohio PUCO. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Brookville Masonic Lodge #596 and Free and Accepted Masons.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Kindred Funeral Home, Englewood, the Rev. Henry Mallon officiating. Burial is at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens, Brookville.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where Masonic services will be held at 7:45 p.m.
Contributions can be made to the Brookville Fire and Rescue Squad or Brookville Grace Brethren Church.

Christopher Nance Sr.
Christopher E. Nance Sr., 85, of Spencerville, died at 8:15 a.m. June 10, 2001, the Roselawn Manor Nursing Home, Spencerville.
He was born Feb. 14, 1916, in Oakdale, Tenn., to Allen and Tivey (Smith) Nance. On June 15, 1944, he married Mary B. Luthe, who survives.
Other survivors are five sons and their wives, C. Eugene and Susan of Prineville, Ore., Douglas W. and Helen of Loudon, Tenn., James L. and Suzie of Okeechobee, Fla., David M. and Darcie of Bucyrus, and Larry A. and Leslie of Haymarket, Va.; a brother and his wife, Ralph J. and Lois of Lima; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a grandchild, two brothers, Joe and Edgar, and two sisters, Pauline Hooks and Alma Campbell.
He was vice president and manager of the Spencerville Branch of the former First National Bank of Lima and worked for the Lima Post Office prior to the bank. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Spencerville, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres. He was a life member of Bowersock Brothers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6772 and the Harry J. Reynolds American Legion Post 191, both of Spencerville. He served as president of the Northwest Chapter, American Institute of Banking, and was a member of the Spencerville Chamber of Commerce, Spencerville Lion's Club, Civic Club, and Athletic Boosters, all of Spencerville. He served as Allen County Chairman of the March of Dimes, won the Key Member Award in the Lima Jaycees, served as commissioner of the Boy Scouts and was co-chairman of the Lima Soap Box Derby. He served as secretary/treasurer of the Spencer Township Park Board and was an honorary member of the Spencerville Future Farmers of America (F.F.A.). He was presented the Outstanding Citizen Award by the Jaycees and also the Chamber of Commerce of Spencerville.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. Jim Shaner officiating. Burial is at Shawnee Cemetery, Lima, where gravesite military rites will be conducted by the Spencerville Veterans.
Calling is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Carl Wehrman
Carl J. Wehrman, 75, Fort Loramie-Swanders Road, Anna, died at 11 p.m. June 10, 2001 at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney.
He was born Dec. 23, 1925, in Anna, to Joseph A. and Katherine (Puthoff) Wehrman. On June 24, 1948, he married Kathleen R. Philpot, who survives.
Other survivors are four sons and their wives, Jim and Sandra of Urbana, Bill and Mary, and Ray and Terri, all of Sidney, and Pat and Deb of Anna, and a son, Roger of Fort Loramie; six daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth and Dennis Dahlinghaus, Minster, Linda and Dave Barhorst, Sidney, Ruth and Dave Clark, Troy, Joan and Jerry Schulze, Yorkshire, Barbara and Keith Paulus, Russia, and Treva and Ted Siegel, Fort Loramie; two brothers and their wives, Ralph and Virginia of Marionette, Wisc., and Don and Betty of Fort Loramie; a brother-in-law, Forrest Grillot of Iowa; a sister-in-law, Hilda Wehrman; 28 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two children, Anthony and Ann; a sister, Dorothy Grillot; a brother, Robert; and a grandson, Cory.
He was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Fort Loramie, Sacred Heart, Knights of Columbus, Council #5239, Minster Eagles Lodge #1391, a lifetime member of the Fort Loramie American Legion Post #355, and a former member of Fort Loramie Schools Board of Education. He was a lifetime member of the Ohio Farmers Union and Ohio Farm Bureau, and the National Farmers Organization, where he served as Ohio president, secretary/treasurer, Shelby County president, and with his wife was voted Ohio NFO members of the year in 1990. He was also a leader of Shelby County Kidney Caregivers Support Group. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served as a motor machinist in the Asian Pacific. He was present at the signing of the surrender of Japan.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Steven Shoup officiating. Burial with full military honors is at St. Patrick Cemetery.
Calling is 2-9 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at Gehret Funeral Home, Fort Loramie.
Contributions can be made to the Fort Loramie Rescue Squad.

Clara Graves
Clara E. Graves, 87, 824 Oliver St., St. Marys, died at 12:20 p.m. June 12, 2001, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born on Sept. 16, 1913, in Guernsey County, the daughter of Charles Elmer and Jenny (Mathers) Thacker. On Feb. 23, 1933, she married Otis L. Graves, who died June 30, 1967.
Survivors are three sons and their wives, Ray and Linda of Pandora, Claude and Georgene of Blacklick, and Don and Julie of St. Marys; a daughter and her husband, JoAnne and Larry Stevens, Chillicothe; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sons, Gene and Keith, two brothers, Willard and Ralph Thacker; and six sisters, Evalena Barnett, Ethel Class, Marguerite Dusz, Hazel Hutchison, Myrta Mae Dearth and Eileen Miller.
She was a former employee of Goodyear, St. Marys, and retired from Fisher Cheese Co., Wapakoneta. She was a member of First Baptist Church, St. Marys, and was a graduate of Coalton High School.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Donald L. Brown officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to the K.C. Geiger Park Improvement Fund.
