Edward Roettger
Edward C. Roettger, 88, 224 N. Lincoln St., Minster, died at 7:45 p.m. June 22, 2001, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born March 7, 1913, in Lock Two, to Ferd and Mathilda (Bockhaus) Roettger. On Oct. 30, 1937, he married Viola H. Senger, who died July 15, 2000.
Survivors are a son, Edward of Minster; two daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Walter Hoying, Sidney, and Linda and Gary Carr, Anna; a brother, Earl Roettger, Toledo; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Deceased is an infant son, Joseph, a sister, and a grandchild.
He was retired from Midmark Corporation, Versailles, and had been employed at the Wooden Shoe Inn, Minster. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Louis Schmit Celebrant officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.

Otto Saunders
Otto "Red" Saunders, 79, 6953 Ohio 219, Celina, died at 8:20 p.m. June 24, 2001, at Piqua Manor Nursing Home.
He was born on April 8, 1922, in Rockford, to John E. and Violet (Webb) Saunders. On July 30, 1960, he married Lucille Strawser, who died in 1988.
Survivors are two sons and their wives, John and Gladys of Sidney and David and Vicki of Piqua; a son, Dennis of Piqua; a daughter, Karen Sue Schnider, Greenville; two brothers, Jess and Kenny, both of Bradford; two sisters, Maye Donovan and Faye Newman, both of Troy; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a son, Joseph, a granddaughter, and two brothers.
He was retired from A. O. Smith, Tipp City, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Celina, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Celina, and American Legion, Coldwater. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as Seaman Second Class.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Kathleen Hayes officiating. Burial is at Burdge Cemetery, Montezuma.
Calling is from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Beth Taylor
Beth Amanda Taylor, 16, 8881 Bergner Road, Van Wert, died at 2:30 p.m. June 22, 2001, at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident earlier that day.
She was born May 24, 1985, in Van Wert, to Bruce and Patricia (Biro) Taylor, who survive in Van Wert.
Other survivors are two brothers, Craig and Zachary, Van Wert; and grandparents Tom, Convoy, and Mike and Eloise Biro, Van Wert.
Deceased is a grandmother, Marjorie.
She was a junior at Crestview High School, and was in the marching and concert bands. She was named to Who's Who Among America's High School Students, and was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Van Wert.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the church, the Rev. Jerry Flueckiger officiating. Burial is at Evangelical Protestant Cemetery, Harrison Township.
Calling is from 1-8 p.m. today, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Irene Clune
Irene M. Clune, 69, 79 W. Main St., Chickasaw, died at 6:01 p.m. June 23, 2001, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born Jan. 30, 1932, in Philothea, to George and Loretta (Heitman) Stammen. On July 24, 1965, she married Luke Clune, who survives.
Other survivors are a daughter and her husband, Barbara and Dan Lockwood, Celina; three brothers, Alvin Stammen, Paul Stammen, and Roman Stammen, all of Philothea; a sister and her husband, Erma and Jim Muhlenkamp, Portland, Ind.; three sisters, Hilda Mercuri, Lucy Miller, and Blanche Morell, all of Dayton; and two grandchildren.
Deceased are two half-brothers and a half-sister.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Precious Blood Church, Chickasaw. She belonged to the Ladies Rosary Alter Sodality of the church.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at the church, the Rev. John Bensman officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.

Judy Gray
Judy Gray, 57, 7707 Howick Road, Celina, died at 4:50 p.m. June 25, 2001, at Community Hospital, Coldwater after an extended illness.
She was born Nov. 21, 1943, in Mendon, to Wayne H. and Betty (Miller) Kennedy. Her father survives in Mendon. On Aug. 29, 1970, she married Paul O. Gray, who survives.
Other survivors are a son, John of Celina; a daughter and her husband, Michelle and Shane Smith, Celina; a brother, Keith Kennedy, Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Margaret Kennedy, Largo, Fla. and Lucille Binkley, Shelby, Mich.; father and mother-in-law, Paul and Margaret Gray, Celina; and a granddaughter.
She was a retired school teacher, teaching at Celina High School, St. Henry Junior High, Fort Recovery Elementary and Celina East Elementary. She was a member of Grace Missionary Church, Celina, the National Education Association, the Ohio Educational Association, and the Retired Teachers Association.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at the church, the Rev. Steve Howell officiating. Burial is at the Hamilton-Bethel Cemetery, Mendon.

Judy Gray
Services for Judy Gray were held at 10:30 a.m. June 28, 2001, at Grace Missionary Church, the Revs. Steve Howell and David Biberstein officiated. Organist was Mary Jean Grandlienard, and Angie Stoner sang.
Pallbearers to Hamilton-Bethel Cemetery, Mendon, were Gary Conrad, Joe Buchanan, Roger Donovan, Steve Dale, Dan Uhlenhake and Nick Schulze. Bob Meihls was an honorary pallbearer.
Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, handled the arrangements.
Mildred Mathewson
Mildred LaVern Mathewson, 76, Rockford, died at 9:15 a.m. June 25, 2001, at her residence.
She was born June 27, 1924, to Lorenzo Hamilton Lay and Ruth Ann (Black) Lay in Alger. On Jan. 18, 1947, she married Carl William Mathewson, who died in 1978.
Survivors are two sons and their wives, Terry and Sandy of Rockford and Tom and Shirley of Fort Recovery; three daughters and their husbands, Karen and Jim Schuum, Rockford, Rosalie and Dick Moeller, Rockford and Tonya and Dave Schmidt, Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters, Connie Staley, Willshire and Teresa Glass, Celina; a sister-in-law, Freda Lay; 24 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was retired from Huffy's Bicycle. She was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Rockford, the church's Women's Sodality, and the Senior Citizens of Celina.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Revs. Dean Mathewson and Thomas Brenberger officiating. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.
Calling is from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford. A wake service will be held Wednesday evening.

Rosella Plas
Rosella M. "Tinky" Plas, 75, 9001 Ohio 119, Anna, died at 9 a.m. June 26, 2001, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born Oct. 1, 1925, in St. Patrick, to Albert and Anna (Berning) Plas.
Survivors are nieces and nephews, who she raised after the death of her sister Margaret, Michael Frilling, Troy, Thomas Frilling, McCartyville, Patrick Frilling, McCartyville, and Jane Frilling Deitering, Sidney; a sister and her husband, Mary and Valerian Cordonnier, Russia; and three sisters-in-law, Martha Plas, St. Patrick, Martha Plas, McCartyville and Alice Plas, Minster.
Deceased are three brothers and a sister.
She was a retired secretary from Wagner Manufacturing, Sidney, and a member of Sacred Heart Church, McCartyville. She was a former member of St. Patrick Church, and St. Michael Church, Fort Loramie, and was a former CCD teacher at St. Patrick Church.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Church, Fort Loramie, the Rev. Patrick Duffy officiating. Burial is at the St. Patrick Cemetery.

Loretta Reichert
Loretta M. Reichert, 75, of Dayton, died June 24, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton.
She was born April 3, 1926, in St. Anthony, to Aloys and Anna (Obringer) Reichert.
Survivors are a brother and his wife, Carl and Mary of Dayton; a sister and her husband, Clara Ann and Clete Wilker, Coldwater; a sister, Catherine Albers, Dayton; and three sisters-in-law, Irene, Bernice and Alberta Reichert.
Deceased are three brothers, Raymond, Arnold and Daniel; and a sister, Rosemary Reichert.
She taught at a former Montezuma school, and retired from the Dayton School system. She was a member of the Dayton Catholic Women's Club, and various other organizations.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Thursday, at St. Rita Catholic Church, Dayton, the Rev. Ron Wilker officiating. Burial is at 1 p.m. in St. Anthony Cemetery, St. Anthony.

Dean Brooks
A. Dean Brooks, 71, of Spencerville, died at 4 p.m. June 27, 2001, at St. Rita's Medical Center, during surgery.
He was born April 22, 1930, in Amanda Township, Allen County, a son of Paul L. and Ethel E. (Culver) Brooks. On Sept. 10, 1950, he married Anna Jean McComb, who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Gregory and Maxine of Spencerville; a sister and her husband, Mary Susan and Thomas McPheron; six grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.
Deceased is a son, Philip and two brothers, Robert and James Brooks.
He was retired from the Lima British Petroleum Co. Ltd. Refinery, and was a graduate of Spencerville High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Bowersock Brothers Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) Post #6772, a member of the Eagles Aerie #767 in St. Marys and the Eagles Aerie #370 of Lima.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. Greta A. Wagner officiating. Burial is at New Salem Cemetery, south of Monticello.
Calling is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday and from 12-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Jay Grooms
Jay H. Grooms, 69, 423 Riffle Ave., Greenville, died at 2:46 p.m. June 27, 2001, at Wayne Hospital, Greenville.
He was born Nov. 15, 1931, in Darke County, to Raymond and Laura (Brewer) Grooms. On Jan. 26, 1963, he married Rose Meiring, who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Michael and Amy of Greenville; two sisters, Mary Ferne Gilpin, Greenville and Opal Mae Hughes, Greenville; and a grandchild.
Deceased is an infant daughter, Marsha Kay Grooms.
He was a retired truck driver, having driven for Mersman's Table Company of Celina and for Brewer & Sons of Versailles.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, the Rev. George Hughes officiating. Burial is at Sunset Memory Gardens.
