Betty Jenkins
Betty Jean Jenkins, 72, 119 Mercer St., Celina, died at 8:40 a.m. June 4, 2002, at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys.
She was born Sept. 25, 1929, in Celina, to Ralph and Edith (Smith) Waldron. On Nov. 13, 1948, she married Calvin C. Jenkins and he survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Calvin Jr. and Susan of Celina; a sister, Joan Coats, Florida; and a grandson.
She had worked as a secretary at Reynolds & Reynolds in Celina. She was a graduate of Celina High School and a member of the Mercer County Sportsman's Association.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina. Burial will be at Swamp College Cemetery.
Calling is 9-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Seraphim Lefeld
Seraphim H. Lefeld, 86, 171 N. Westview Ave., St. Henry, died at 4:44 a.m. June 4, 2002, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
He was born Sept. 17, 1915, in St. Henry, to George and Bernadine (Schmackers) Lefeld. On June 27, 1942, he married Clarina A. Bettinger and she survives.
Also surviving are five sons and their wives, Robert and Marjorie, Linus and Rosemary, Thomas and Judy and Leo and Ginny, all of St. Henry, and Valentine and Connie of Burkettsville; a daughter and her husband, Mary and Jim Jutte, St. Henry; a daughter-in-law, Janet Lefeld, Coldwater; 28 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Other survivors include four brothers and their wives, Edward and Viola, Bernard and Agnes, Henry and Trudy and Martin and Mary Ann, all of St. Henry; a sister and her husband, Dorothy and Richard Kuess, St. Marys, and three sisters, Alvina Stammen and Bernie Homan, both of St. Henry, and Agnes Pohlman, Maria Stein; and a sister-in-law, Sally Lefeld, Coldwater.
Deceased are two sons, Ernest and Arthur; a brother, Joseph; three brothers-in-law, Al Homan, Bill Stammen and Otto Pohlman; and a grandchild.
He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both of St. Henry, the Mercer County Farm Bureau and the Loyal Order of Moose, Celina.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Larry Wyen officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10:15 a.m. Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry.
Vallie Connors
Vallie Connors, 72, 110 Knoxville Ave., St. Marys, died at 10:14 p.m. June 4, 2002, at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys.
She was born Sept. 20, 1929, in Austin, Texas, to Walter and Beulah (Driver) Cooley. On Oct. 9, 1947, she married Thomas B. Connors Jr. and he died March 17, 1972.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Paul and Belinda of New Knoxville; a daughter and her husband, Mary and Melvin Norton, Celina, and two daughters, Charlene of St. Marys and Patricia of Wapakoneta; a brother, James Cooley, Prestonburg, Ky.; and two sisters including her twin, Hurlie Hobson of Dayton, and Wilma Grace Speares, East Point, Ky.
Deceased are two infant children, Shirley Ann and James Ray, and three brothers, John, Walter and George Cooley.
She retired after working many years as a nursing assistant at Valley Nursing Home. She was a member of the St. Marys Church of the Nazarene and the St. Marys Senior Citizens Club.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Kevin Luedeke officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.

Larry LaBrun
Larry R. LaBrun, 60, of Chattanooga, died at 4:30 a.m. June 5, 2002, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind. Death was due to natural causes.
He was born May 15, 1942, in Decatur, Ind., to Robert and Violet (Brown) LaBrun. They survive in Chattanooga.
Also surviving is a brother, Donald D. of Chattanooga.
A sister, Marlene Vogel, is deceased.
He was a member of Bethel Brethren Church, Berne, Ind.
Services are noon Saturday at the church, the Rev. Joe Nass officiating. Burial will be at M.R.E. Cemetery, Berne.
Calling is 3-6 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne, and after 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Carlton Lamb
Carlton C. Lamb, 77, 411 N. Wayne St., St. Marys, died at 11:25 p.m. June 4, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Feb. 7, 1925, in Champaign County, to Clarence and Callie (Bowen) Lamb. On March 19, 1955, he married Lois Austin and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons and their wives, Charles and Ruth Ann, Bellefontaine, Larry and Deb, West Liberty, and Craig and Bonnie Williams, St. Marys; a daughter and her husband, Vicky and Ron Williams, St. Marys; a brother, Ronald of Lufkin, Texas; a sister, Vonda Vaughan, Urbana; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
A brother, Ernest Lamb, is deceased.
He retired as a set-up man from Copeland Corp., Sidney. A 1943 graduate of West Liberty-Salem High School, he was a member of Brand's Lake Fishing Club, Wapakoneta, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeries 691 and 767 in Wapakoneta and St. Marys.
Services are 1 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Dean Grow officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.

Leo Paulus
Leo G. Paulus, 81, 5822 Monroe Road, Celina, died at 7:54 a.m. June 6, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 20, 1920, in Russia, to John C. and Flora (Francis) Paulus. On Nov. 29, 1947, he married Virginia Subler and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Stephen and Connie, and a son, Michael, all of Celina; a daughter, Sharon of Indianapolis, Ind.; a brother, Fermin of Midland, Mich.; two sisters, Ethel Prose, Dayton, and Roseann Grilliot, Stuart, Fla.; and two grandsons.
Five brothers are deceased.
He retired as a supervisor for Eastern United States for Food, Machinery and Chemical Corp. in Riverside, Calif. A World War II veteran, he served four years with the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Celina, and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Russia.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Brenberger officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina.

Leona Romer
Leona E. Romer, 92, 522 Western Ave., St. Henry, died at 10:25 a.m. June 4, 2002, at The Gardens at St. Henry.
She was born Oct. 6, 1909, in Union City, to Jerome and Angeline Courtad. On Feb. 6, 1982, she married Bernard Romer and he died Sept. 3, 1988.
Surviving are a stepson and his wife, Allen and Janice of Carlisle; and two stepdaughters and their husbands, Janice and Bob Berning, McCartyville, and Patricia and Larry Balster, St. Henry.
A brother, George Courtad, is deceased.
She was a retired secretary and a member of the St. Henry Catholic Church.
Memorial Mass is 10 a.m. June 22 at the church, the Rev. Larry Wyen officiating.
In keeping with her wishes, her body was donated to the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, Mich.
Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry, had charge of arrangements. There is no visitation.
David Wendeln
David C. Wendeln, 50, 13848 Granville Drive, Poway, Calif., formerly of Minster, died of cancer June 6, 2002, at his residence.
He was born March 8, 1952, in Lima, to Joseph and Marie (Chilcoat) Wendeln. They survive in Minster. On Feb. 18, 1972, he married Kathy Leader and she survives.
Also surviving are a son, David; four daughters, Charity Carter, Joy Wendeln, Grace Lodes and Faith Wendeln; two brothers and their wives, Fred and Kelly of New Bremen and Tom and Roseann of Minster; two sisters and their husbands, Carole and Dick Fuerst, Minster, and Barb and Roger Heckman, Versailles; and two grandsons.
He was self-employed as a computer programmer and designer in San Diego, Calif.
Memorial services will be held Monday in Poway.
