Lewis Rhoades
Lewis E. Rhoades, 81, 4576 Houk Road, Rossburg, died June 19, 2003, at the Versailles Health Care Center.
He was born Aug. 4, 1921, in Darke County, to Jacob and Bessie McGlinch Rhoades. His wife, the former Berniece V. Gehron, died in 1994.
Surviving are a son, James of Fort Myers, Fla.; three daughters, Judy Leininger, Archbold, Janet Altick, Fishers, Ind., and Joyce Schuh, Ansonia; and eight grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Gary Lee; two brothers, Leonard and Eugene; and a sister, Esther Strausbaugh.
He was a retired real estate appraiser and tax consultant. He served in the U.S. Air Corps during World War II and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, North Star.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Laura Shreffler officiating. Burial will follow at Greenville Township Memorial Gardens, Greenville, with military rites conducted by an honor guard from the North Star American Legion Post.
Calling is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Oliver Funeral Home, Greenville.

Gail Schlater
Gail M. Schlater, 67, of Versailles, died at 12:15 p.m. June 19, 2003, at the Dayton Heart Hospital.
She was born Sept. 16, 1935, in Dayton, to Emerson and Arabelle Freeman Crites. On Aug. 20, 1960, she married Gregor Schlater who died July 26, 1996.
Surviving are a son, Jeff (Rose) of Versailles; four daughters, Judy (Jerry) Goubeaux, Russia, Jan (Ray) Berger, Versailles, Joyce (Jay) Huber, Maria Stein, and Jackie (Chris) McEldowney, Fort Recovery; a brother, the Rev. William (Lois) Crites, Virginia; a sister, Ann Hollingsworth, Versailles; and 13 grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Robert Crites, and two sisters, Carol Freeman and Mary Grilliot.
She was a homemaker and a volunteer at the Versailles Health Care Center. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Anne's Sodality and the American Legion Auxiliary, all of North Star.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. David Zink officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Rita Tobin
Rita M. Tobin, 80, Ohio 274, Celina, died at 12:40 a.m. June 20, 2003, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born March 28, 1923, in Tipton, Ind., to George and Armeilla Roeckner Tobin.
Surviving are two brothers, Paul and Joe (Claire) of Celina; three nephews and a niece.
She retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., St. Marys, after 33 years of service. She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, the Ladies Rosary Altar Sodality and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, all of Chickasaw, and the West Ohio Ayrshire Club.
Funeral Mass is 2 p.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. John Bensman officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Ralph Wolfe
Ralph J. Wolfe, 91, formerly of 927 S. Wayne St., St. Marys, died at 2:15 a.m. June 20, 2003, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Sept. 29, 1911, in St. Marys, to John and Rosalind Ahlers Wolfe. On Jan. 23, 1938, he married Wilma Brush who died Nov. 12, 2001.
Surviving are two sons, Ralph Jr. of Minster and Jerry (Charlett) of St. Marys; two daughters, Ruth Ann (James) Snethkamp, St. Marys, and Linda (Tim) Gehm, Coldwater; a daughter-in-law, Doris Wolfe, New Bremen; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
A sister, Ruth Davies Stimson, and a granddaughter are deceased.
He retired from the Evening Leader Printing Company, St. Marys, where he had been a printer for many years. He was a 1932 graduate of Memorial High School and a former member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church, St. Marys.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. John Wine officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.

Mary Gibson
Mary Margaret Gibson, 59, 301 S. Vine St., died at 8:24 a.m. June 19, 2003, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, following an extended illness.
She was born Feb. 6, 1944, in St. Marys, to Basil and Reva Chaney Felver. On Aug. 15, 1975, she married John Gibson who died Aug. 27, 1987.
Surviving are a son, John. of St. Marys; three daughters, Angela (Terry) Burgei, Fort Jennings, Mindy Abernathy, St. Marys, and Renee Schwarck, Piqua; two stepdaughters, Daria (Charles) Kingrey, Mechanicsburg, and Darcia Roberts, Wapakoneta; and 11 grandchildren.
Other survivors include three brothers, Richard Felver, St. Marys, Billy Felver, Wapakoneta, and Robert (Rebecca) Sanders, Piqua; two sisters, Peggy (Richard) Fowler and Pamela Chilcoat, both of St. Marys; a stepbrother, Donnie (Geneva) Sander, Troy; two stepsisters, Sherrie Grubb, Valencia, Calif., and Anita McGlothen, Bradford; and the mother-in-law, Rosemary Gibson, St. Marys.
She was a homemaker.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Alfred Laloge
Alfred L. Laloge, 86, 6953 Ohio 219, Celina, died at 10:20 a.m. June 19, 2003, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
He was born Jan. 9, 1917, in Coldwater, to Leo and Theresa Braun Laloge. His former wife, Rita Laloge, died Aug. 31, 1991.
Surviving are a son, Larry (Doris), St. Henry; a daughter, Patricia (Rick) Maier, Celina; a sister, Rose Mary Rosenbeck, Coldwater; a sister-in-law, Loretta Schroer, Coldwater; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a sister, Dorothy Huber, and three brothers-in-law, Clarence Rosenbeck, Ralph Huber and Joseph Schroer.
He formerly worked in machine repair at Avco New Idea, Coldwater. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Montezuma.

Herbert Gross
Herbert J. Gross, 90, 601 Plum Drive, Coldwater, died at 5:30 p.m. June 18, 2003, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
He was born June 25, 1912, in St. Peter, to Adam and Catherine Braun Gross. On June 6, 1936, he married Madonna Harlett who died Oct. 9, 1997.
Surviving are four sons, James, Ron (Rieko) and Don (Deb), all of Coldwater, and Larry (Connie) of Piqua; two daughters, Barb (Jim) Eischen, Hawesville, Ky., and Karen (Jim) Braun, St. Henry; three brothers, Louis, Eugene (Blanche) and Vincent (Alfrieda), all of Coldwater; two sisters, Rita (Bob) Heyne, Russia, and Mary Ann (Alvin) Severt, Coldwater; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Clarence and Cy, and a sister, Viola Bonifas.
He retired from the former Pet Milk Co. in Coldwater. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Coldwater.

Mary McAfee
Mary M. McAfee, 87, 1107 Princeton Ave., Celina, died at 5:40 p.m. June 18, 2003, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born July 21, 1915, in Pleasant Hill, to Lawrence and Emma McColland Ward. On Sept. 15, 1934, she married Otto Lippman who died in August 1978.
Surviving are a son, Larry (Dianne) of Vandalia; a daughter, Nancy Cain, Celina; a brother, Ray (Edwina) Ward, Christiansburg; a sister-in-law, Christina Ward, Christiansburg; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She formerly was cafeteria supervisor in the Dayton City Schools. She was a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church, Celina.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Robert Metheny officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memory Garden, Vandalia.

Mike Cook
Committal services for Celina native Mike Cook, 56, of Mobile, Ala., will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, the Rev. Clifford Bollenbacher officiating.
He died Dec. 25, 1995, in Mobile and his body was cremated.

Loretta Dorsten
Loretta E. Dorsten, 90, formerly of North Second Street, Coldwater, died today, June 18, 2003, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
She was born Feb. 13, 1913, to Leo and Francis Nieport Kohner. On Nov. 24, 1932, she married Theodore Dorsten who died Feb. 20, 1974.
Surviving are a son, Harold (Sheila) of Celina; two daughters, Mary (Charles) Meier and Barbara (Toby) Green, both of Celina; a son-in-law, Mark Steinbrunner, Osgood; three brothers, Norbert (Mary Evelyn) Kohner, Celina, Anthony (Flora) Kohner, Dayton; and Lawrence Kohner, Versailles; a sister, Rose Mary Wendel, Wapakoneta; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Rose Ann Steinbrunner; a son-in-law, Ernest Reinhart; and a sister, Celesta Kohner.
She retired from Mersman Tables in Celina and was a former cook at Kremer's Restaurant, Coldwater. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and St. Ann's Rosary Altar Sodality, both of Coldwater.

Winifred Maurer
Winifred Ellen Maurer, 88, of Mercer, died at 7:17 a.m. June 17, 2003, at Colonial Nursing Home, Rockford.
She was born July 8, 1914, in Mercer, to Lawrence and Achsah Palmer Skinner. On Dec. 15, 1942, she married John W. Maurer who died June 13, 1985.
Surviving are a son, Robert (Rozann) of Mendon; two daughters, Peg (Dale) Snider, Mendon, and Pam (Dave) Young, Celina; and four grandchildren.
A son, Jack, and a sister, Harriet Skinner, are deceased.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mercer United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Mercer County Genealogical Society.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Kenneth Baker officiating. Burial will be at Mercer Cemetery.
