Sandy Clem
Former Celina resident Sandy Jane Clem, 47, 740 Christopher Drive, Marion, died at 11:45 a.m. June 3, 2003, at her home. Her death was due to cancer.
She was born Sept. 9, 1955, in Portage, Wis., to Ivan James and Betty Carol Zanto McDuffee who survive in Bloomington, Ill. On Sept. 15, 1979, she married William H. Clem who also survives.
Other survivors are a son, William A. of Marion; a daughter, Shannon (John) DeSantis, Marion; a brother, Scott McDuffee, Bloomington.; and four sisters, Sheryl Monical, Shelley (Doug) Peden and Susan (Jamie) Phelps, all of Bloomington, and Sally (Charles) Taylor, Fairbury, Ill.
She was a retired supervisor of customer relations at the former G.T.E. plant in Celina, and later Verizon of Marion. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, and former director of the education committee and member of the church's Ladies Circle. A 1973 graduate of Normal Community High School, Bloomington, and Bluffton College, she was a member of Pleasant High School Boosters.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. J. Weston Jones officiating. Burial is Tuesday at Eastlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Bloomington.
Calling is 2-4 and 7-9 Friday at the church.
Contributions can be made to Hospice of Marion County, James Cancer Hospital, Columbus, or Gerson Institute, San Diego, Calif.

Carolyn Johnson
Carolyn S. Johnson, 66, of Rockford, died at 11:18 a.m. June 4, 2003, at The Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford.
She was born June 23, 1936, in Chesterfield, Ind., to Perry and Jean I. Grier Brandon. In October 1970 she married Paul E. Johnson who died June 22, 1993.
Survivors are three sons, Clinton O. Smith and Daniel G. (Lisa C.) Smith, of Celina, and Rance of Rockford; a daughter, Kachina of Rockford; two brothers, Jack Brandon, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Paul (Janet) Brandon, Downyville, Calif.; and a grandson and three stepgrandchildren.
Deceased is a twin brother, Michael Brandon; and a sister, Martha Jane Wilson.
She was a homemaker and formerly worked as a waitress at Motor Inn Truck Stop, Mercer. She was a member of New Horizons Community Church, Rockford, Order of Eastern Star, Hagerstown, Ind., and a charter member of Mercer County Saddle Club.
Services are 7:30 p.m. Friday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, the Rev. Robert Loar officiating. Burial is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortyville, Ind.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Hilda Bruggeman
Hilda M. Bruggeman, 91, formerly of Stelzer Road, Maria Stein, died at 12:32 a.m. June 4, 2003, at Community Hospital, Coldwater. She had been a resident at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater, for 10 years.
She was born Aug. 27, 1911, in Wendelin, to Frank and Clara Pokamp Brunswick. On April 11, 1934, she married Raymond B. Bruggeman who died Feb. 9, 1997.
Survivors are two sons, Melvin (Betty) of McCartyville, and Robert (Carol) of Coldwater; three daughters, Mary Ellen (Floyd) Niekamp, St. Henry, Clara Jean (Fred) Hein, Chickasaw, and Lilly Mae Mock, Portland, Ind.; a sister, Laura Franks, Celina; a daughter-in-law, Cathy of Indiana; 24 grandchildren, 19 stepgrandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Deceased is a son, Dennis; a son-in-law, Ray Mock; five brothers; a sister; and two grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Carthagena, and the St. Monica Rosary Altar Sodality.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Catholic Church, Cranberry, the Rev. David Hoying officiating. Burial is at St. Aloysius Cemetery, Carthagena.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
Janice Griner
Janice E. Griner, 65, 212 Stallo Road, Minster, died suddenly at 8:23 a.m. June 3, 2003, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born Nov. 23, 1937, in Fort Loramie, to Clarence and Henrietta Kaiser Meyer. On May 29, 1957, she married Thomas Griner who survives.
Other survivors are two sons, Terence (Lisa), and Michael, both of Minster; two daughters, Kathleen M. Mueller and Peggy L. Mueller, both of Minster; a brother, David (Dorothy) Meyer, Fort Loramie; a sister-in-law, Marcia Schulze, Fort Loramie; and seven grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and retired bookkeeper and member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster. She also was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie post 1391, Minster.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Louis Schmit officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9-9:45 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.

Katherine Kaminiski
Former Celina resident Katherine B. Kaminiski, 54, of Canton, died unexpectedly May 22, 2003.
She was born April 14, 1949, in Canton, to John and Odessa Marion who are both deceased.
Survivors are three daughters, April Dobransky, Angie Love and Lisa Kaminsky, all of Canton; and eight sisters, also of Canton.
Deceased is a son, Jason Allen Hodge.
She was employed at the Canton Regency Retirement Center.
Services were held May 27, 2003, at Reed Funeral Home, Canton, the Rev. Raymond Tucker officiated.
Her body was cremated following services.
Dorothy Wickelman
Dorothy E. Wickelman, 88, a resident of Celina Manor Nursing Home, died at 1:50 p.m. June 3, 2003, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Trinity, Ind., to Clem and Margaret Willhoff Wickelman.
Survivors are five nephews, Norbert of Xenia, Hugo Anderson, Kalamazoo, Mich., Larry Reinhart, Toledo, and Wendelin Reinhart and Gene Reinhart, address unknown; and a niece, Patricia Rettich, Camden.
Deceased is a brother, Lawrence Wickelman; and three sisters, Hilda Reinhart, Lucille Geier and Erma Anderson.
She had been a live-in caregiver for many years, and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Richard R. Riedel officiating. Burial is at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina.

Carrie Hoyng
Carrie Elizabeth Hoyng, 91, North Second Street, Coldwater, died at 9:07 a.m. June 2, 2003, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born July 30, 1911, in Carthagena, to John and Amelia Dabbelt Boeke. On Nov. 26, 1936, she married Paul Hoyng who died Dec. 21, 1987.
Surviving are three sons, John of Columbus, Carl (Vicki) and Mark (Linda), both of Dayton; two daughters, Mary Ann (Gene) Reichert, Celina, and Rita (Gary) Haliena, Seneca, S.C.; a brother, Paul Boeke, Bartlesville, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Lucille Boeke, Coldwater; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Raymond and Werner; two sisters, Coletta and Magdalene; and two grandchildren.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and its St. Anns Rosary Altar Sodality.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.

Leonard Clausing
Former New Knoxville resident Leonard George Clausing, 95, a resident of Fairhaven Retirement Community, Sandusky, died at 11:50 a.m. May 30, 2003, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Sandusky.
He was born Dec. 24, 1907, in Auglaize County, to A. F. William and Caroline Henschen Clausing. On Sept. 14, 1933, he married Lenora Viola Hoelscher who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Larry (Judy), of Tiffin and Don A., of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Zella Schmidt, New Bremen; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Ferdinand and Albert, and a sister, Olga Paul, are deceased.
He was a retired farmer and a member of First United Church of Christ, New Bremen, were he taught Sunday school and served as a deacon and elder. He also was a member of the Auglaize County Farm Bureau.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. David Hunt officiating.
Calling is after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Jocie Hoenie
Jocie V. Hoenie, 87, formerly of 467 N. Perry St., St. Marys, died at 11:10 p.m. Saturday at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys.
She was born Feb. 22, 1916, in St. Marys, to Burl and Jennie Burris Curts. Her husbands, Frank Hutchings, Charles McMurray and Clifford Hoenie, are deceased.
Surviving are two nephews, Robert (Sandy) Curts, New Knoxville, and Edward Curts, Celina.
Deceased are a brother, Alfred Curts, and a sister, Opal Weaver.
She retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, both of St. Marys.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Herb Berry officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Artiff Mertz
Artiff "Artie" Mertz, 68, Ohio Street, Wapakoneta, died at 12:55 a.m. June 1, 2003, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
She was born April 27, 1935, in Wapakoneta, to Vince and Ruby Naylor Thitoff. On June 7, 1952, she married Clyde V. Mertz who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Clyde V. of Wapakoneta; three daughters, Darlene (Thomas) Smith, Sunbright, Tenn., Christine Johnson and Tamara (Ron) Fullen, both of Wapakoneta; a brother, Donald E. (Mary) Thitoff, Wapakoneta; a sister, Kathy (Richard) Goodroe, Snellville, Ga.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A sister, Pam Cooper, is deceased.
She was a homemaker and a waitress at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 691, Wapakoneta. In addition to the Eagles Auxiliary, she was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and Koneta Chapter 385, Order of Eastern Star, also of Wapakoneta.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bayliff and Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta, the Rev. Gregory Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta.
Calling is 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Eagles Auxiliary will conduct a service there at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
