Lavern Bergman
Lavern E. "Clem" Bergman, 75, 1260 Fort Recovery-Minster Road, Fort Recovery, died at 11:07 a.m. July 14, 2002, at his residence, following an extended illness.
He was born March 24, 1927, in St. Henry, to Harry and Pauline (Albers) Bergman. A stepmother, Mary Rose Bergman, survives in Coldwater. On April 30, 1949, he married Mercedes Barnhart and she survives.
Also surviving are six daughters and their husbands, Barb and LaVern Grube and Jane and Tom Post, all of Fort Recovery, Susie and Dale Langenkamp, North Star, Karen and Jerry Honerlaw, Cincinnati, Ginny and Ron Borger, Coldwater, and Theresa and Tracy Cripe, Jacksonville, Fla.; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Other survivors include five brothers and their wives, Ralph and Mary, Walter and Kathryn, Melvin and Peg and Floyd and Joan, all of Fort Recovery, and Jack and Jean of St. Henry; three sisters and their husbands, Betty Jean and Cy Brockman, Margie and Bill Hooker and Elsie and Roscoe Timmerman, all of Fort Recovery, and one sister, Ruth Finch, Dayton; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Bergman, Fort Recovery.
Deceased are a son, Lavern Jr.; three brothers, Bob and infants Paul and Carrol; an infant sister, Carrie; and a granddaughter.
He formerly operated Bergman Garage & Bergman Auto Sales in Fort Recovery and retired from farming. A 1945 graduate of Fort Recovery High School, he served with the Seabees in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. He was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Ohio Progressive Sportsman Club and the Gun Club, all of Fort Recovery; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Coldwater. He also was a Fourth Degree member of St. Gaspar del Buffalo Assembly, Minster.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Paul Wohlwend officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-9 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. A prayer service is planned there at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Contributions can be made to Mercer-Darke County Hospice.

Esther Meiring
Esther S. Meiring, 65, 11 Crestwood Drive, Minster, died at 12:30 a.m. July 14, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, following an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 6, 1936, in Maria Stein, to Bernard and Cecelia (Heitkamp) Vehorn. On Nov. 24, 1956, she married Elton Meiring and he survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Greg and Lisa of Minster, and a son, Bill of Celina; two daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Jim Dues and Sue and Jon Brandewie, all of Minster; a brother and his wife, Ralph and Nancy Vehorn, New Bremen; three sisters and their husbands, Vera and Werner Stucke, St. Rose, Mary and Al Miller and Dottie and Mort Meiring, and a sister, Irene Meiring, all of Minster; and 10 grandchildren.
Three brothers and two sisters are deceased.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. William Hoyng officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
Contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Faye Miles
Faye I. Miles, 80, 400 E. Warren St., Celina, died at 5:10 p.m. July 12, 2002, at Dayton Heart Hospital.
She was born May 16, 1922, in Mora, Minn., to Henry R. and Anna M. (Krumrei) Severtson. On Aug. 8, 1940, she married W. Paul Miles and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons and their wives, William P. Jr. and Marjorie of Dayton and Robert and Patricia of Centerville; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
One brother, Harry Severtson, is deceased.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Loyal Order of Moose and Breakaway Racquet Club, all of Celina. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Services are 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Bob Metheny officiating. Burial will follow later at Memorial Park Cemetery, Dayton.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to the Mercer County Heart Association or Hospice.

Treva Sanders
Treva Sanders, 74, of Delphos, died at 4:25 p.m. July 13, 2002, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 12, 1927, in Allen County, to Ben and Esther (Wert) Metcalfe. On Nov. 3, 1945, she married Gilbert Sanders and he died in 1995.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Wesley and Kay of Maria Stein and Doug and Amy of Delphos; seven daughters and their husbands, Sharon and John Johnson, Columbus Grove, Karen and Bill Fosburgh, Spencerville, Rebecca and Paul Richardson, Delphos, Sandra and Dave Diehl, Defiance, Christina and Michael Kimmet, Ottoville, Janice and Bill Romes, Fort Jennings, and Lori and Gary Romes, Middle Point; a brother, Blaine Metcalfe, Borden, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Metcalfe, no town listed; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two infant sons, five brothers, Harold, Carroll, Edgar, Irvin and Robert Metcalfe, and four sisters, June Blue, Morene Hennon, Vernene Kampf and Beulah Allison.
She was a housewife and past president of Delphos Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 3035.
Services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Harter and Son Funeral Home, Delphos, the Rev. Thomas Gorman officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Calling is 2-9 p.m. Tuesday and after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A wake service will be held there at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Contributions can be made to St. Rita's Hospice.

Eric Spring
Eric C. Spring, 19, 601 Webb St., St. Marys, was killed at 2:42 a.m. July 13, 2002, in a traffic accident on Tri-Township Road in rural Au-glaize County.
He was born Nov. 4, 1982, in Lima, to Allen and Becky (Schneider) Spring. They survive in St. Marys.
Also surviving are a brother, Mark A., at home; a maternal grandmother, Mary D. Schneider, Wapakoneta; and the paternal grandparents, Allen and Lucille Spring, New Knoxville.
A 2001 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School, he was majoring in business at Wright State University Lake Campus. He was employed at Bartlett's Carry Out in St. Marys and MacDonald Corp. in Spencerville.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Wapakoneta.

Malissa Wiley
Malissa F. Kable Wiley, 95, 1908 Barnsbury Court, Celina, died at 12:45 p.m. July 13, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born May 1, 1907, in Celina, to John Q. and Josephine (Hoenie) Mesarvey. On Aug. 4, 1925, she married Lawrence E. Kable and he died June 18, 1977. In November 1986, she married A. Dale Wiley and he died in January 2000.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Larry and Mary Lou Kable, Upper Arlington, and Don and Velone Kable, Celina; a sister, Mary Doermann, Mendota, Ill.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased are an infant son, Joseph Edward Kable, and two brothers, Edward N. and Claudius Mesarvey.
She had served as a deputy clerk for Mercer County Probate Court, a case worker for the State of Ohio Aid for the Aged and executive director of the Mercer County Red Cross. She was a 1925 graduate of Celina High School and a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Celina.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church, the Revs. Douglas R. Meyer and Christopher C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 4-7 p.m. today at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, and after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Marcella Clausing
Marcella A. Clausing, 89, formerly of 04247 Ohio 219, New Knoxville, died at 5:50 a.m. July 14, 2002, at Fairhaven Home, Upper Sandusky, where she had resided since 1994.
She was born March 9, 1913, in Kossuth, to Theodore and Sarah (Lammers) Kuck. On June 26, 1934, she married Albert Clausing and he died July 16, 1994.
Surviving are a son, Dean of Upper Sandusky; a daughter and her husband, Eileen and Gene Bubp, Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Adella Wilson, Jackson Center; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased are three brothers, Sylvanus, Orville and Harold Kuck, and a sister, Viola Eversman.
She attended school in Shinbone and graduated from New Knoxville High School in 1928. A homemaker, she had assisted in the operation of the family farm. She was a member of First United Church of Christ and the Women's Guild, both of New Knoxville. She had attended Adult Bible School classes at the church for many years.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Vornholt-Miller Funeral Home, New Knoxville.
Contributions can be made to the Radio Broadcast Fund of the church.

Catherine Fortman
Philothea native Catherine M. Fortman, 93, formerly of Fort Wayne, Ind., died July 14, 2002, at Provena Sacred Heart Home, Avilla, Ind.
She was born July 7, 1909, in Philothea, to Ben and Johanna (Wenning) Osterholt. Her husband, Frank J. Fortman, is deceased.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas J. of Larwill, Ind., and Robert J. of Kennewick, Wash.; a daughter, Marilyn Peters, Kendallville, Ind.; three brothers, Leo Osterholt, Coldwater, Mich., Edward Osterholt, Philothea, and Herman Osterholt, Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Three brothers and a sister are deceased.
She had worked as a seamstress at L.S. Ayres for 20 years. She was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Fort Wayne.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Fort Wayne Catholic Cemetery.
Calling is 3-6 and 8-10 p.m. today at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, Fort Wayne, and after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Irene Quellhorst
Irene M.W. Quellhorst, 91, formerly of 6 N. Washington St., New Bremen, died at 10:10 p.m. July 14, 2002, at St. Marys Living Center, where she had resided 8 1/2 years.
She was born Aug. 30, 1910, near New Bremen, to August and Amelia (Kamman) Kuest. On Feb. 4, 1932, she married Richard E. Quellhorst and he died April 14, 1951.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Dale and Wilma of St. Marys; a daughter and her husband, Beverly and Roland Kettler, Kettlersville, and a daughter, Ruth Hiler, Port Orange, Fla.; two sisters, Helen Schroer, New Bremen, and Marie Fischbach, St. Marys; a sister-in-law, Alma Kuest, Fort Loramie; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, the Adult Bible Study Class, Christian Service Guild and the Senior Citizens, all of New Bremen.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. John W. Tostrick officiating. Burial will follow at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
Contributions can be made to the church memorial fund, St. Marys Living Center Activity Fund or Mercer/Darke County Hospice.
