John Hoening
Former Coldwater resident John Hoening, 67, Grand Junction, Iowa, died Aug. 22, 2001.
He was the son of the late Baltus and Lova (Thice) Hoening. In 1955, he married Pat Bowman of Cincinnati and she survives.
Other survivors are three sons, John Jr., Grand Junction, Doug and Bruce, Corpus Christi, Texas; two brothers, Jim of Florida and Tom of Fostoria; and four grandchildren.
Deceased are two sons, Curtis and Tim; a granddaughter and five brothers, including Bill, Bob, Joe and twin infant brothers.
He served in the U.S. Air Force following graduation from Coldwater High School. He moved to Iowa in 1977, where he was the owner and publisher of a local newspaper until retirement in 1996.
A private Funeral Mass was held Saturday at St. Brigid Catholic Church, Grand Junction.
Carolyn Boerger
Carolyn Agnes Boerger, 58, Friemering Road, Fort Loramie, died at 8:30 a.m. July 31, 2002, at her residence. She had a history of heart problems.
She was born Nov. 1, 1943, in Troy, to Julius and Louise (Fiely) Meyer. On March 5, 1974, she married Robert J. Boerger and he survives.
Also surviving are two brothers and their wives, Adolph and Joan Meyer and Clifford and Charlene Meyer, all of Newport, and a brother, Delbert Meyer, Piqua; a sister and her husband, Shirley and Harold Balster, St. Henry, and a sister, Marilyn Caprara, Woodridge, Va.; and a sister-in-law, Linda Meyer, New Bremen.
Deceased are two brothers, William and Robert Meyer, and a brother-in-law, Joseph Caprara.
A 1962 graduate of Houston High School, she was a homemaker and a 12-year employee of Meyer's Garage, Newport. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Fort Loramie.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Steven Shoup officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at Gehret Funeral Home, Fort Loramie.

Leona Coffield
Leona C. Coffield, 91, a resident of The Gardens at St. Henry, 522 Western Ave., St. Henry, died there at 1 p.m. July 31, 2002.
She was born March 10, 1911, in Fort Loramie, to William and Clara (Fleckenstein) Rottinghaus. On Aug. 31, 1935, she married Kenneth A. Coffield and he died March 21, 1995.
Nieces and nephews survive.
One brother and three sisters are deceased.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella and the Altar-Rosary Sodality, all of St. Henry. She also participated in the Hour of Adoration Guilds in St. Henry and at the Maria Stein Chapel as well as the Fatima Hour Guild at Carthagena.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Larry Wyen officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery, Fort Loramie.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 9-9:45 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry.
Nancy Wagner
Nancy A. "Alice" Wagner, 85, 1006 Hemlock St., Celina, died at 12:52 a.m. July 31, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born Oct. 7, 1916, in Celina, to David and Bertha (Booker) Lehman. On Jan. 2, 1937, she married Albert Wagner and he died Feb. 22, 1973.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Arlan and Diane of Celina, and a son H. David of Elkhart; a daughter and her husband, Carla Sue and Robert Schwartz, Celina; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A daughter, Myra Ann Martin, is deceased.
She was a homemaker and a graduate of Celina High School. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, both of Celina, and the Woodmen of the World.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Don Ramsey officiating. Burial will be at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

LaVaun Marbaugh
LaVaun D. Marbaugh, 88, formerly of Celina, died at 8:22 a.m. July 31, 2002, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
She was born March 14, 1914, in Mercer County, to Ernest and Christina (Stoll) Norris. On Sept. 3, 1938, she married Raymond C. Marbaugh and he died Aug. 30, 1969.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Jerry and Judy of Celina; a daughter and her husband, Nancy and David Speelman, Convoy; a stepdaughter and her husband, Peggy and Richard Fowler, St. Marys; a brother, Eugene Norris, Florida; a sister and her husband, Norma Jean and Harold Budde, Celina; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Donald and Urlen Norris, and a sister, Evelyn Hainline.
She retired from the Huffy Corp., Celina, in 1981 after more than 30 years of service.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Norma Arkenberg
Norma M. Arkenberg, 79, formerly of Fort Loramie, died at 9:15 a.m. Aug. 1, 2002, at Heritage Manor Nursing Center, Minster, where she had resided the past 15 months.
She was born Aug. 8, 1922, in Osgood, to Frank and Mary (Broerman) Winner. On July 21, 1943, she married Wilbert J. Luttmer and he died Sept. 14, 1964. She later married Virgil C. Arkenberg and he survives in Minster.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, William and Jill Luttmer, Minster; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Ray Fiessinger, Fort Loramie; a brother, Richard Winner, a resident of Heritage Manor; a sister and her husband, Lorena and Henry Goldschmidt, Fort Loramie; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Three brothers and two sisters are deceased.
She retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys, in 1980 after 31 years of service. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Fort Loramie.

Gladys M. Knowles
Gladys M. Meyer, 97, formerly of Celina, died Aug. 1, 2002, at Trinity Community in Beavercreek, where she had resided since July.
She was born July 16, 1905, in Geneva, Ind., to Robert and Magdalena (Kessler) Knowles. In 1934, she married Leo J. Meyer, who died in 1973.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Deloris and John Law, Alpena, Mich., and Rosalyn and Wayne Zwart, Beavercreek; a son and his wife, Ted and Carolyn Meyer, Fairborn; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was a graduate of Celina High School and attended Bowling Green State Normal School. She was teacher at a one-room schoolhouse and was a homemaker. She attended Hawker United Church of Christ and the former Christian Reform Church, both in Kettering.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Tobias Funeral Home in Dayton, the Rev. Thomas E. Venema officiating.. Burial is at Fairfield Cemetery in Fairborn. T

Wilma E. Slagle
Wilma E. Slagle, 72, 702 Sturgeon St., St. Marys, died at 3:12 a.m. Aug. 2, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
She was born May 19, 1930, in Allen County, to John and Orpha (Miller) Hartman. On June 21, 1952, she married Charles Slagle, who died April 1, 1998.
Survivors include a brother, Leonard Hartman, West Union; two sisters, Lela Lawrence, Lima, and Joanne Miller, Archbold; and a son-in-law, Doug Schmidt of St. Marys.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Schmidt and a sister, Erma Roney.
She was a homemaker.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys, the Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.

Crystal Heindel
Crystal Marie Heindel, 88, 1100 Myers Road, Apt. 18, Celina, died at 12:50 a.m. Aug. 4, 2002, at the Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford.
She was born Nov. 21, 1913, in Butler Township, Mercer County, to Ernest L. and Ellen M. (Smith) Yaney. On Oct. 4, 1945, she married Edwin K. G. Willrath and he died May 15, 1965. On March 25, 1989, she married Charles L. Heindel and he died March 8, 2002.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Wayne E. and Marsha Willrath, Celina; two stepsons and their wives, Ronald and Karen Heindel of Celina and Donald and Elaine Heindel of Willshire; a sister and her husband, Esther and Howard Grodey, Botkins; two sisters-in-law, Kate Yaney and Eileen Yaney, both of Celina; one grandson and seven stepgrandsons.
Deceased are six brothers, Sherman, R. Dale, Charles, Willis, John and Lowell Yaney, and two sisters, Deelaura Heindel and Kathryn Link.
She had worked at The Coffee Shop, The Sweet Shoppe, Kentucky Fried Chicken and The Remaklus Co., all of Celina. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Celina.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Douglas R. Meyer officiating. Burial will be at Buck Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, and after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Lewis Minch
Lewis V. Minch, 75, 5101 Ohio 29, Celina, died at 1:20 p.m. Aug. 3, 2002, at his residence.
He was born July 20, 1927, in St. Anthony, to Michael and Antoinette (Fiepel) Minch. On May 7, 1966, he married Wahneta Link and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Harold and Sue, a son, Herbert, and a daughter, Melissa, all of Celina; one brother and his wife, Clarence and EmmyLee of St. Anthony, and one brother, Walter of St. Henry; a sister and her husband, Anne and Bob Caldwell, St. Marys, and two sisters, Helen Steele and Clara Minch, both of Celina; and three grandchildren.
Two brothers, Harold and Rudy, are deceased.
He retired from Reynolds & Reynolds Co., Celina, in 1992. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, American Legion Post 210 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5713, all of Celina.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Richard Riedel officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina.
