Mary Rice
Mary Rice, 93, formerly of Neptune, died at 4:20 a.m. Aug. 6, 2002, at Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky.
She was born Feb. 19, 1909, in Mercer County, to Silas and Ivy (Miller) Bogart. In 1926, she married Glen Rice and he preceded her in death.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, including Marjorie and George Kreachbaum of Upper Sandusky, who cared for her.
Deceased are a daughter, Ila Mae, and a brother, Boyd Bogart.
She was a homemaker and a member of Neptune Baptist Church, where she had served as treasurer, organist and pianist. She also was a member of the Celina Equity Association.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Freeman Whetstone officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Bethel Cemetery near Mendon.
Calling is 4:30-7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Leona Troyer
Leona May Troyer, 51, 219 Morton St., Celina, died at 4:40 a.m. Aug. 8, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. Death was due to complications following surgery.
She was born March 12, 1951, in Jasper County, Ind., to Norman and Opal (Beougher) LeLoup. On Aug. 11, 1974, she married Everett E. Troyer and he died July 6, 2000.
Surviving are a son, Everett Scott, Celina; a daughter and her husband, Opal Marie and Earl Lower, Celina; four brothers, Amel, Leonard, Robert and Chester LeLoup, all of Indiana; a sister, Edna LeLoup, also of Indiana; an uncle, Robert Beougher, Celina, with whom she lived; and three grandchildren.
She had been employed at Cheryl Ann Industries, Celina.
Services are 3 p.m. Monday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina. Burial will follow at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 3-5 p.m. Sunday and 1-3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Leonard Vohs
Leonard F. Vohs, 85, 09381 Kettlersville Road, New Knoxville, died Aug. 9, 2002, at 12:45 a.m. at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Washington Township, Auglaize County, to Henry and Mary (Schroer) Vohs. On April 25, 1948, he was married to Magdalene S. Warner, who survives.
Also surviving is a brother, Reinhart Vohs, New Knoxville, and a sister and her husband, Olga (Ollie) and Norman Schnelle, New Knoxville.
He was a farmer and had lived and worked his entire life on the farm where he was born. He was a member of The First United Church of Christ, New Knoxville, where he had served as a deacon and an elder.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the church, the Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville.
Calling is after church on Sunday and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Vornholt-Miller Funeral Home, 200 W. Spring St., New Knoxville.
Memorials may be directed to either the First United Church of Christ Radio Broadcast Fund or charity of the donor's choice.
Frances Bowen
Former Celina resident Frances L. Bowen, 87, 59 Sunny Lane, Tiffin, died at 5:20 p.m. Aug. 9, 2002, at Autumnwood Nursing Home, Tiffin.
She was born April 27, 1915, in Mendota, Ill., to George and Theresa (Frandin) Hessenberger. On June 6, 1948, she married Donald Bowen and he died Oct. 15, 1984.
Surviving are a son and his wife, John and Diane of Tiffin; a daughter and her husband, Kathy and Gregg Emery, Valrico, Fla.; a stepdaughter and her husband, Barbara and Don Fenwick, Largo, Fla.; a brother, Robert Hessenberger, Knoxville, Tenn.; and nine grandchildren.
One brother, Gerald Hessenberger, is deceased.
A retired teacher, she had taught home economics at Morton High School in Cicero, Ill., and York High School, Venedocia, for 11 years.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the History Club, both of Celina, the Huron County Retired Teachers Association, the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and the American Association of Retired People.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Robert Metheny officiating. Burial will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens.
Calling is noon Tuesday until the time of services at the church.

Glenn Jones
Glenn E. Jones, 87, 1756 Fort Recovery-Minster Road, Fort Recovery, died at 3:30 a.m. Aug. 10, 2002, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
He was born Dec. 19, 1914, in Fort Recovery, to William and Rachel (Hall) Jones. On Dec. 28, 1938, he married Mildred Haubert and she died Oct. 23, 2001.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Ronald and Nancy of Fort Recovery; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Arlie and Robert; a sister, Inez Wolf; and a grandchild.
He was a farmer.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, the Rev. Paul Wohlwend officiating. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery, Fort Recovery.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Rosemary Knapke
Rosemary Knapke, 98, 4293 Burkettsville-St. Henry Road, Coldwater, died early today, Aug. 12, 2002, at her residence.
She was born April 2, 1904, in Celina, to Bernard and Caroline (Bruns) Knapke.
Surviving are a brother-in-law, Herbert Evers, St. Henry; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Deceased are five sisters, Loretta Wenning, Alvina Dues, Hilda Borgert, Esther Evers and Bernadette Holdheide.
She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Ladies Rosary Altar Sodality, all of Coldwater.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Ronald Wilker officiating. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.

Leslie Putman
Leslie H. Putman, 66, 413 McLain St., St. Marys, died Aug. 11, 2002, at his residence.
He was born July 20, 1936, in Mercer, to Lewis and Sylvia (Knapp) Putman. On Nov. 29, 1957, he married Janet C. Busick and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Steven and Angie of Wilmington; a daughter and her husband, Stephanie and Timothy Klemm, Harrison; two daughters, Stacey and Suzette, both of St. Marys; a brother, Ronald, Columbia City, Ind.; and eight grandchildren.
Two sisters, Louise Anderson and Mary Ellen Meyer, are deceased.
He retired from the engineering department at Minster Machine Co., where he had been employed for 37 years. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he had served in the Korean War. He was a 1954 graduate of Rockford High School and a member of Zion Lutheran Church, St. Marys.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Herbert Berry officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys.

Norbert Schulte
Norbert F. Schulte, 73, 4709 Nicholson Drive, Celina, died at 12:45 p.m. Aug. 11, 2002, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton.
He was born May 17, 1929, in Celina, to Frank and Rosa (Zumbrink) Schulte. On Oct. 13, 2001, he married Sue Abery and she survives.
Also surviving are two stepdaughters and their husbands, Angela and Tim Putnam, Kettering, and Kimberly and Todd Knechtly, Centerville; two brothers, Henry of Coldwater and Edward of Celina; two sisters, Loretta Remaklus, Coldwater, and Roseann Wourms, Celina; and six stepgrandchildren.
Two brothers, Paul and Vernon, are deceased.
He retired from Avco New Idea, Coldwater, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the American Legion, Loyal Order of Moose and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, all of Celina.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Richard Riedel officiating. Burial will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens.

Joan Smith
Fomer Fort Recovery resident Joan Marie Smith, 57, of Kenton, died Aug. 10, 2002, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. Death was due to natural causes.
She was born April 24, 1945, to John V. and Margaret Ann (Stein) Seifert.
Surviving are two sisters and their husbands, Carolyn Ann and Bob Shack, Chicago, Ill., and Donna and Tom Shack, Brigantine, N.J., and a sister, Sister Florence Seifert, Kettering.
A sister, Margaret O'Connell, is deceased.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kenton, and the church choir. She did volunteer work at Hardin Hills Health Center.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. William Faustner officiating. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Kenton.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Price Funeral Home, Kenton. A wake service is planned there at 7 p.m.

Matthew Uhlenhake
Matthew J. Uhlenhake, 18, 231 N. Eastern Ave., St. Henry, died at 5:10 p.m. Aug. 11, 2002, at his residence. Death was due to natural causes.
He was born Nov. 1, 1983, in Coldwater, to James and Diane (Rammel) Uhlenhake.
Surviving are two sisters, Lisa and Jill, at home; and the maternal grandparents, Edna and Luke Rose, Fort Recovery.
Deceased are the paternal grandparents, Thomas Uhlenhake and Marie and Leo Broerman, and the maternal grandfather, Julian Rammel.
A 2002 graduate of the Tri-Star Career Compact welding program in St. Marys and St. Henry high schools, he was employed at Gelhaus Dairy Farm, St. Henry. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Larry Wyen officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
