Virginia A. Wendel, 67, 2557 Frahm Pike, Celina, died at 2:08 p.m. Aug. 10, 2002, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born Dec. 6, 1934, in Liberty Township, Mercer County, to Albert and Lillian (Deitsch) Bollenbacher. On May 9, 1953, she married Carl E. Wendel and he survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Randy D. and Kimberly of Celina; two daughters and their husbands, Debra A. and Donald Miller, Celina, and Christina K. and David Shepherd, Beavercreek; a brother and his wife, Dean P. and Mary Ann Bollenbacher, Celina; three grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a 1952 graduate of Rockford High School. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Rockford, where she was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Women's Fellowship.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. John Fleming officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Betty Carter
Betty C. Carter, 75, 640 Cumberland Drive, Celina, died at 12:51 p.m. Aug. 12, 2002, at Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, St. Marys.
She was born April 11, 1927, in Mercer County, to Otto and Freda (Schaadt) Fickert. On Aug. 12, 1950, she married James O. Carter and he died Sept. 13, 1995.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Rick and Linda Carter, Celina; a brother and his wife, Ralph and Janet Fickert, Celina, and a brother, Roma Fickert, Rockford; a sister and her husband, Doris Jean and Don Gerber, Berne, Ind.; and three granddaughters.
Deceased are a son, Randy; three brothers, Raymond, Homer and Lloyd Fickert; three sisters, Alvina Trafzer, Esther Noack and Loretta Bollenbacher; and a grandson.
She was a homemaker and a former employee of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys. She attended Landfair United Methodist Church, Hopewell Township.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Paul Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens.
Calling is 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Thelma Hardin
Thelma Rupert Hardin, 80, 1509 Neil Ave., St. Marys, died at 9:33 a.m. Aug. 12, 2002, at Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in St. Marys.
She was born March 12, 1922, in Celina, to Charles and Rachel Anna (Hauter) Clifford. Her first husband, O.J. Hardin, and her second husband, LeRoy Rupert, are deceased.
Surviving are five sons and their wives, O.J. Jr. and Pat Hardin, Green Cove Springs, Fla., Michael and Irene Rupert, Framingham, Mass., Mickeal and Susie Hardin, Wapakoneta, Barry and Candy Hardin, Beavercreek, Jack and Nancy Rupert, Seabrook, Texas, and Douglas H. and Marcy Rupert, New Knoxville; two daughters and their husbands, Carol Sue and Don Shuler, St. Marys, and Deb and Dean Kile, Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother and his wife, Charles and Dorothy Clifford, St. Marys; a sister, Mary Beckstedt Grimm, Celina; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Gene and Stanley Clifford, and a great-granddaughter.
She retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys, where she had worked in the weatherstripping department.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Tony Dirr officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens near Moulton.

Kenneth Oliver
Kenneth Ian Oliver, 46, of Acton, Mass., the husband of a former Coldwater resident, died Aug. 11, 2002, at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Mass. Death was due to sudden heart failure.
He was born Oct. 1, 1955, in Washington, D.C., to Lincoln and Edith (Marritt) Oliver. His father survives in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, and his mother lives in Norfolk, Va.
Surviving with his wife of 12 years, the former Theresa M. Balster, are three sons, Ian, Michael and Grant, all of Acton, and two brothers, Edgar and Carl, both of Virginia.
He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y., with an engineering degree and from Xavier University in Cincinnati with a master's degree in business administration. A software engineer, he formerly worked for Cisco Systems and Celox and most recently was employed at Sockeye Networks in Waltham, Mass.
He was involved with the Nashoba Learning Group, which is in the process of establishing a school for autistic children in the area. He had been working on a biking fund-raiser to be held later this month for the organization.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Acton. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Acton.

Richard Bonvillian Sr.
Richard W. "Dick" Bonvillian Sr., 74, 121 W. Butler St., Fort Recovery, died Aug. 13, 2002, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born Aug. 30, 1927, in Fort Recovery, to Thomas and Irene (Franks) Bonvillian. On Jan. 21, 1967, he married Clara Jo Merry and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons and their wives, Robert and Judy, Celina, Dick Jr. and Karen, Fort Recovery, and John and Nancy, Hartford City, Ind.; two sons, Rodney and Randy, both of Fort Recovery; a brother and his wife, Paul and Lois of Celina; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Susan Kay; four brothers, John Len, John Thomas, Robert and Thomas; three sisters, Margaret Badders, Aline Eby and Mary Gen Shuler; and a great-grandson.
He retired from the Norfolk & Southern Railroad. He was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 3324, both of Fort Recovery.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Paul Wohlwend officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. A K of C prayer service is planned there at 7:45 p.m. Thursday.
Everett Maffett
Mercer County native Everett L. Maffett, 89, of Eaton, died Aug. 13, 2002, at Friends Fellowship Retirement Community, Richmond, Ind.
He was born Feb. 10, 1913, in Mercer County, to Elmer J. and Elizabeth (Pearson) Maffett. His wife, the former Mary Ellen McMillan, died April 23, 1994.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Jeffrey and Annette, Eaton; a son, James E., Sarasota, Fla.; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
He had served as director of the Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank, vice president of the Sarasota Bank & Trust Co., executive vice president of American Security Corp., Marion, Ind., chairman of the board of Colonial Banc Corp. and chairman of the board, former president and chief executive officer of Eaton National Bank & Trust Co.
He was a graduate of Miami University and a U.S. Navy officer during World War II. A lifelong railroad enthusiast, he wrote three books on railroad and family genealogy and co-founded The Moffat Clan Society, USA. He was a member of Oxford Presbyterian Church.
Private funeral and graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family, the Rev. R. John Harris officiating. Burial will take place at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.

Marilyn Pax
Marilyn Sue Pax, 62, 2125 Haviland Road, Columbus, a former Mercer County resident, died Aug. 12, 2002, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. Death was due to natural causes.
She was born Jan. 19, 1940, in Dayton, to Edward J. and Irene (Wourms) Stoecklein. On Dec. 29, 1962, she married Alfred C. Pax and he survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Greg and Tomoko, Columbus; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Robert Lowes, Columbus; a brother and his wife, Ned and Mary Elaine Stoecklein, Dayton; and five grandchildren.
A daughter, Catherine I. Pax, and a brother, William Stoecklein, are deceased.
She was a former teacher in the Coldwater School District and director of Creative Discovery Preschool in Celina for 17 years. She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, Columbus.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, the Rev. Ronald Wilker officiating. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.

Ken Byrum
Ken Byrum, 60, of Tustin, Calif., formerly of Piqua, died Aug. 11, 2002, at his residence. Death was due to lung cancer.
He was born April 28, 1942, in Winchester, Ind., to Ralph Byrum and Mabel (Glassford) Byrum Wooddell. His mother survives in Portland, Ind.
Also surviving are a son, Tony of Amity, Ore.; a daughter, Jennifer of Austin, Texas; a brother and his wife, Michael and Barbara of Santa Ana, Calif.; and a sister and her husband, Janice and Art Huelskamp, Fort Recovery.
A 1959 graduate of Piqua Central High School, he moved to California in 1960.
Services are pending in California.
Florence C. Hebble
Florence C. Hebble, 85, formerly of 765 Hillcrest Drive, St. Marys, died at 7:10 p.m. Aug. 15, 2002, at Auglaize Acres, Wapakoneta, where she had resided for several years.
She was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Chicago to Ferd and Leonara (Anderson) Warrer. On Dec. 10, 1945, she married Loren V. Hebble and he died March 23, 1977.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, James and Joyce of Waynesfield and David and Carolyn of Houston, Texas; a daughter and her husband, Barb and John Steiner, Russells Point; a foster daughter and her husband, Emma and David Severt, Wapakoneta; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Two brothers, Horace and Charles Warrer, are deceased.
She retired as an occupational health nurse at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys. A 1935 graduate of Parker High School in Chicago and a 1939 graduate of Evangelical Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, she served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in the Southwest Pacific Theatre during World War II.
She was an election poll worker for many years and a volunteer with the Auglaize Count Red Cross Bloodmobile. Her memberships included the Auglaize County Mental Health Association, Auglaize County Extension Homemakers, Republican Women of Auglaize County, American Legion Post 323 of St. Marys and Faith Alliance Church, New Bremen, where she taught Sunday School classes and organized Wednesday evening children's programming for many years.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Clem Hixenbaugh officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys, with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 323 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289, both of St. Marys.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Agnes M. Maurer
Agnes M. Maurer, 95, 634 Hoying St., Celina, died at 3:43 p.m. Aug. 15 at The Gardens at Celina.
She was born Jan. 4, 1907, in Germany, to Ignaz and Franceska (Heinrichs) Koberg. Her husband, Peter Maurer, is deceased.
Surviving is a daughter, Nancy Eyre, Celina.
Deceased are two brothers, Paul and Evalt Koberg, and four sisters, Gertrude Koberg, Anna Eberhardt, Elsie Nania and Helen Wittig.
She was a homemaker and a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Services are 7 p.m. Sunday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Lynn Hall officiating.
