Bertha Pollock
Celina native Bertha Marie Pollock, 80, 808 George St., Van Wert, died at 3 a.m. Aug. 14, 2002, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 10, 1922, in Celina, to Henry G. and Emilie (Lesko) Sennebogen. On March 31, 1945, she married Benjamin Leo Pollock Jr. and he died Dec. 29, 1993.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Jerry L. and Joy of Van Wert; two sisters, Emma Devalk, Castro Valley, Calif., and Ida Fahey, San Leandro, Calif.; four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Two brothers and two sisters are deceased.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Van Wert, where she taught Sunday School, and the Republican Women. She was a former member of Alpha Omicron Chapter of Omega Sigma Sorority.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Joachim Wilck officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Calling is 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Florence Quinter
Florence M. Quinter, 94, 251 E. Kremer-Hoying Road, St. Henry, died at 8:25 p.m. Aug. 15, 2002, at The Gardens in St. Henry.
She was born Feb. 27, 1908, in Osgood, to Edward and Mary (Leugers) Hasselman. On June 2, 1931, she married Henry Quinter who died Nov. 25, 1995.
Survivors are a son and his wife, Elmer and Shirley of West Salem, Wisc.; a daughter and her husband, Pat and Tom Stelzer, Coldwater, and a daughter, Jean Peak, Mauston, Wisc.; three sisters, Rosaline Fullenkamp, Fort Recovery, Louella Hasselman, Osgood, and Romaldia Barhorst, Versailles; 15 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Lavern, a son-in-law, Ferd Peak, four brothers, Raymond, Alfred, Sylvester and Edward Jr., four sisters, Bernadine Hasselman, Frances Hasselman, Cecelia Dorsten and Anna Brockman, a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers Sodality of the Church.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Larry Wyen officiating. Burial is at St. Martins Cemetery, Osgood.

Eileen Shappie
Eileen Marie Shappie, 71, Newport Road, Fort Loramie, died at 4:34 p.m. Aug. 16, 2002, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney.
She was born Nov. 9, 1930, in Newport, to Henry and Hilda (Middendorf) Barhorst. On Nov. 18, 1950, she married Francis Shappie who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, David and Cindy of Sidney; two daughters and their husbands, Debbie and John Wooddell, and Darlene and Kent Mullen, all of Sidney; four brothers and their wives, James and Lucille Barhorst, Sidney, Dennis and Alice Barhorst, Beavercreek, Lester and Jean Barhorst, Fort Loramie, and Henry Jr. and Pat Barhorst, Minster, and a brother, Harry Barhorst, Sidney; two sisters and their husbands, Thelma and Edward Luebke, Kettering, and Janet and Barney Koverman, Fort Loramie, and two sisters, Betty Grilliot, Newport, and Mary Ann Davis, Sidney; and eight grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers.
She retired from the former Val Decker Packing Company, Piqua, after 32 years. She was a 1948 graduate of Fort Loramie High School and a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Newport, the1099 Retirees Club, Dayton, and was a chicken fryer for the Fort Loramie American Legion post.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Anthony Cutcher officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Monday and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Gehret Funeral Home, Fort Loramie.
Phillip Ahlers
Phillip C. Ahlers, 19, 204 W. Wiggs St., Fort Recovery, died Aug. 17, 2002, at his residence. The cause of death is being investigated as an apparent suicide.
He was born Oct. 15, 1982, in Coldwater, to Phillip D. Sr. and Carolyn (Wood) Ahlers. They survive in Fort Recovery.
Other survivors are a sister, Laura, at home; and the paternal grandfather, Edward Ahlers, Burkettsville.
Deceased are the paternal grandmother, Catherine Ahlers, and the maternal grandparents, Edward and Ruth Wood.
Memorial services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fort Recovery Church of the Nazarene, the Rev. Verl Ballmer officiating. Burial will be at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery.

Maxine Portz
Maxine L. Portz, 83, 301 E. Boundary St., Fort Recovery, died at 2:40 a.m. today, Aug. 19, 2002, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born March 11, 1919, in Randolph County, Ind., to Harry and Roxy (Dumford) Shumaker. On June 4, 1950, she married Charlie Portz, who died Jan. 19, 1983.
Survivors are three sons and their wives, Robert and Kathy of Fort Recovery, Joe and Deb of Celina, and Larry and Carol Boyd, Anderson, Ind., and two sons, Rick of Fort Recovery, and Jim Boyd of Prospect Heights, Ill., nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sisters and a brother.
She was a member of Fort Recovery United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Yard & Garden Club, all of Fort Recovery, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Coldwater.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, the Rev. Robert Dungan officiating. Burial is at Springhill Cemetery, Fort Recovery.

Amber Kirchenbauer
Amber Lea Kirchenbauer, 21, U.S. 24, Antwerp, formerly of Celina, died around 5:30 a.m. Aug. 17, 2002, at Paulding County Hospital, Paulding. Death was due to injuries sustained in a traffic accident.
She was born April 1, 1981, in Van Wert, to David L. Kirchenbauer of Van Wert and Jacquelyn M. Crouch, Celina. They survive along with the stepmother, Janice Kirchenbauer of Van Wert, and the stepfather, Bob Crouch of Celina.
Also surviving are two brothers, David L. Kirchenbauer II, Van Wert and Christopher M. Crouch, Celina; a sister, Melanie A. Kirchenbauer, Van Wert; a stepbrother, Juston Crouch, Celina; the grandfather, Lester Kirchenbauer, Van Wert; the maternal grandmother, Mary Wallace, Novi, Mich.; and the stepgrandparents, Melvin and Madonna Crouch, Celina.
She was a 1999 graduate of Celina High School, where she had been active in track, cross country and Amnesty International. She was employed at I & K Distributing, Delphos.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Evangelical Church, Van Wert, the Rev. Clark Williman officiating. Burial will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens near Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert.

Virginia Wehrkamp
Former Celina resident Virginia I. Wehrkamp, 91, 315A Murmuring Creek, Monticello, Fla., died at 11:15 a.m. Aug. 17, 2002, at Pine Lake Nursing Home, Greenville, Fla.
She was born Oct. 19, 1910, in Adair, Iowa, to Archbold and Stella (Evans) Bain. On July 28, 1945, she married Clarence Wehrkamp and he died Jan. 6, 1997.
Surviving are a daughter, Eleanor Calvert, Monticello, Fla.; a stepdaughter and her husband, Yvonne and Paul Adams, Celina; four sisters, Delores Patterson, Betty Watkins and Glenola Eddy, all of Elizabeth, W. Va., and Norma Jean Vardaman, McCleney, Fla.; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son-in-law, Robert Calvert; one brother and two sisters.
She and her husband formerly owned Wehrkamp's Cottages and Grocery and Wehrkamp's Soft Water in Celina. She was a member of St. Pau'sl United Methodist Church, Celina.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Kathleen Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is noon Tuesday until the time of services at the funeral home.
Margaret Pohl
Margaret A. Pohl, 92, 678 Park Blvd., Versailles, died at 11:22 p.m. Aug. 17, 2002, at the Versailles Health Care Center.
She was born May 24, 1910, in Darke County, to John P. Sr. and Mary Ellen (Poly) Gasson Sr. On Oct. 7, 1931, she married Edward W. Pohl and he died June 15, 1995.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Kenneth P. and Angela of Oakwood and Harold J. and Debra R. of Versailles; four daughters and their husbands, Evelyn and John F. Simons and Bernice and Richard Berger, all of Versailles, Kathy and Bill Freeman, Coldwater, and Doris and Ronald L. Barga, Ansonia; 35 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
Other survivors include two brothers, John Gasson Jr., Versailles and Cletus Gasson, Sun City, Ariz.; two sisters, Florence Groff and Virginia Goubeaux, both of Versailles; and two sisters-in-law, Norma Reed and Frances Gasson, both of Versailles.
Deceased are a son-in-law, Ivo Budde; a daughter-in-law, Gloria A. Pohl; two brothers, Paul and Jerome Gasson; two brothers-in-law, Ambrose Goubeaux and Norbert Groff; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Gasson; and two granddaughters.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Denis Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella, both of Versailles.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David Vincent officiating. Burial will follow at St. Valbert's Cemetery, Versailles.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles. The Daughters of Isabella will hold a rosary service at the funeral home that evening.

Donald Rindler
Donald Eugene Rindler, 67, 2161 Buckeye St., Maria Stein, died at 7:10 a.m. today, Aug. 19, 2002, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater. He had been ill the past six months.
He was born Aug. 28, 1934, in Chickasaw, to Ed and Elizabeth (Pour) Rindler. On April 17, 1978, he married Martha Gast and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons and their wives, David and Jan of Berne, Ind., and Robert and Sue of Coldwater, and a son, Michael of Franklin, Mass.; a daughter and her husband, Anne and Tom Risner, Coldwater; two brothers and their wives, Gerald and Pat of Houston, Texas, and Richard and Virginia of Montezuma; a sister and her husband, Helen and Pete Magoto, Russia; 12 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He owned and operated Rindler's Garage in Maria Stein before retiring in 1990 after suffering a heart attack. He previously owned Chickasaw Garage where he had worked with his father, Ed, until selling the business in 1975. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Maria Stein, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3025, Coldwater.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Ken Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-9:45 a.m. Thursday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.

Henry Dietz
Henry J. Dietz, 74, of Dyersburg, Tenn., formerly of Chickasaw, died Aug. 16, 2002, at his residence.
He was born July 15, 1928, near Botkins, to John and Florence (Steinke) Dietz. On Sept. 30, 1950, he married Esther M. Clune and she died March 8, 1985. On April 19, 1992, he married Frances Ward of Dyersburg and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Gary and Edna of Celina; a daughter and her husband, Ann and Mike Ruwoldt, St. Marys; six stepchildren; a brother and his wife, Bernard and Dorothy of New Bremen, and a brother, Donald of Celina; three sisters and their husbands, Mary Katherine and Mark Heinfeld, New Bremen, Delores and Paul Weinstock, Anna, and Betty and Gary Lovett, Delaware; and four grandchildren.
He had moved to Dyersburg in August 1991.
Private services are planned by the family.
