Charles Snedeker
Charles A. Snedeker, 90, of Otterbein of St. Marys, died at 9:03 a.m. Jan. 25, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys following an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 31, 1911, in Urichsville, to Chauncey and Dorothea (Truman) Snedeker. On Dec. 29, 1976, he married Ailene Grunded, who died in 1996.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Dona and Rose of Sesser, Ill, Robert and Roberta of Lutz, Fla., and Charles and Patti of El Toro, Calif.; a step-daughter and her husband, Pat and Roger Meyer of Ocala, Fla.; 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
Deceased his parents; one brother, Albert; and three sisters, Helen Caroniti, Dorothy Lupi and Ruth Baker.
He was retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in St. Marys and a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in St. Marys. He was a charter member of the Grand Lake Beagle Club and former president of the Mercer County Garden Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and wood carving.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, at the St. Pauls United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Patricia Minnick officiating. Burila will follow at German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen.
Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Long and Folk Funeral Home in St. Marys and one hour before services at the church.

Alvera Clark
Alvera M. Clark, a former Coldwater resident, died at 2:15 a.m. Jan. 25, 2002 at Van Crest Care Center, Delphos.
She was born in Coldwater to Frank and Mary (Bertke) Bernard. On May 17, 1934, she married Dr. J. W. Clark and he died Sept. 10, 1979.
Surviving is a son, Leo John Bernard of Kenton.
Deceased are two brothers, Jerome Frank Bernard and Leroy Joseph Bernard, and three sisters, Agnes Alvera Voskuhl, Henrietta Anna Howick and Frances Rita Buehler.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America, both of Delphos.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-5 p.m. today at Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Orians Funeral Home, Delphos. The Catholic Daughters of America will hold a service at 4 p.m. today at the funeral home followed by a 4:30 p.m. parish wake service.

Doris Howell
Doris Mae Howell, 92, formerly of Celina, died at 8:20 a.m. Jan. 26, 2002 at Laurels of Shane Hill Nursing Home, Rockford.
She was born Sept. 5, 1909, in Mercer County, to Grover C. and Mary M. (Bilter) Hines. On Feb. 16, 1927, she married Russel F. Howell and he died July 22, 1983.
Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Helen and Karl E. Allmandinger, Celina; a brother and his wife, Glen C. and Iako Hines, Cincinnati; a sister and her husband, Wilma and Lovell Birt, West Jefferson; two brothers-in-law, John Cron, West Jefferson, and Arthur Gross, Toledo; five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are four brothers, Donovan, Dale, Carl and Leo Hines, and two sisters, Eileen Gross and Marjorie Cron.
She had worked as a home nursing caretaker and attended Celina Church of the Nazarene.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Revs. Larry Fox and Richard Hines officiating. Burial will be at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Carroll Klingler
Carroll W. Klingler, 88, 802 W. Vine St., Coldwater, died Jan. 25, 2002 at Heritage Manor Nursing Center, Minster.
He was born Aug. 16, 1913, in Toledo, to Raymond G. and Mabel A. (Krick) Klingler. On June 29. 1935, he married Nadine D. Webb and she died in 1997.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Dennis and Edith of New Bremen; three daughters and their husbands, Betty and Richard Plattner, New Bremen, Beverly and Bill Laffin, Wapakoneta, and Barbara and Danny Gould, New Haven, Ind.; a brother and his wife, Howard and Mariam of West Unity; a sister and her husband, Eloise and Carl Funk, Scottsdale, Ariz., and a sister, ReDeane Wilhelm, Prescott, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a brother, Russell.
He owned and operated Pearce's 5 cent to $1 Store in Coldwater from 1942 to 1975. He also owned The Card Shoppe in Wapakoneta during the early 1970s. A member of the Coldwater Chamber of Commerce, he had been named Volunteer of the Year in 2000 and he served on the Home Building & Loan Board of Directors from 1963 to 1985. He was a member of the Coldwater Kiwanis Club and several collectors clubs.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater, the Rev. Dean Garwood officiating. Burial will be in Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Earl Mears
Earl R. Mears, 81, 1718 Fenway Court, St. Marys, died at 3:54 a.m. Jan. 27, 2002 at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys, following an extended illness.
He was born June 5, 1920, in Montgomery County, to Charles and Flora (Lanter) Mears. In 1942, he married Lillian Kissell and she died in 1986. On Aug. 30, 1997, he married Betty Wright Shelby and she survives.
Surviving are three daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Deane Armour, Celina, Dixie and Bill Davies, Diamondhead, Miss., and Debbie and Adrian Wenning, Minster; two stepsons and their wives, Mark and Donna Shelby, New Knoxville, and Patrick and Sheila Shelby, New Albany; a stepdaughter and her husband, Connie and Jim Miller, Geneva, Ill., and a daughter, Christa Metz, Minster; a brother, Lester of West Alexandria; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Deceased are a brother, Charles Mears; a sister, Clara Brown; and a half-brother, Nick Carter.
He was a 1938 graduate of Germantown High School and a U.S. Army Corps veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He retired as a foreman from Chrysler Corp., Dayton, after 30 years of service. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys, a life member of American Legion Post 470, Coldwater, and a member of the St. Marys Tri-Squares and Kittyhawks square dancing clubs.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. James Byrne officiating. Burial will be in Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.

Brad Meyer
Brad A. Meyer, 21, 11111 Schmitmeyer-Baker Road, Minster, died at 5 a.m. Jan. 26, 2002 in the emergency room at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. Death was due to injuries sustained in a traffic accident.
He was born Dec. 12, 1980, in St. Marys, to Thomas and Barbara (Riethman) Meyer.
Also surviving are a brother, Gary of Minster; a sister and her husband, Kelly and Brad Rose, Fort Loramie; the paternal grandfather, John B. Meyer, Russia; and the maternal grandparents, Bernard and Marie Riethman, McCartyville.
Deceased is the paternal grandmother, Marceil Meyer.
He was a 1999 graduate of Fort Loramie High School and a student at Edison Community College, Piqua. He was employed at Dan Eilerman Construction, Fort Loramie. An All County/All State baseball player, he formerly played on the Sidney American Legion baseball team. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the Sons of the American Legion, both of Fort Loramie.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Steven Shoup officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-9 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.

Elizabeth Wenning
Elizabeth C. "Betty" Wenning, 50, of Tempe, Ariz., formerly of Coldwater and Columbus, died Jan. 5 at her residence. Death was due to natural causes.
She was born June 14, 1951, in Coldwater, to Ralph J. and Catherine (Fleck) Wenning. Her mother survives in Coldwater.
Surviving are three brothers and their wives, Ron and Pam of Beavercreek, Bob and Karen of Tampa, Fla., and Bill and Deb of Celina; and a sister, Joan Ballweg, Pickerington.
She graduated as salutatorian from Coldwater High School in 1969 and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton and a master's degree from Purdue University. She formerly worked at Bell Labs in Columbus and was a licensed insurance agent.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. Burial will be at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Calling will be after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
