Vernon Sommer
Vernon "Bud" Sommer, 81, 69 S. Hanover St., Minster, died at 11:10 a.m. Sept. 6 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Minster, where he was a resident.
He was born July 27, 1919, in Minster, to Frederick and Pauline (Fortman) Sommer. On Sept. 1, 1943, he married Marjorie Howell, who survives.
Other survivors are two sons and their wives, Michael and Pamela, and Gregory and Kathy, all of Minster, and a son, Douglas of St. Marys; a daughter-in-law, Kendra of Minster; a sister, Martha Massing, Minster; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Steven, four brothers and four sisters.
He was former owner and operator of Bud's Pizza, Minster, and served on the board of directors of Community Lanes and was a former member and stock holder of Arrowhead Park Golf Club, Minster. He was a member of St. Augustine Church, Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1391, all Minster, Knights of St. John, Fort Loramie, Democratic Central Committee, Walkup Country Club, Fort Loramie, Cataract Fire Co., Minster and Minster Athletic Boosters.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. William Hoyng officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
Contributions can be made to Mercer/Darke County Hospice or Minster Area Life Squad.

James Sacher
James J. Sacher, 84, 307 E. Anthony St., Celina, died at 7:05 a.m. Sept. 7 at Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford.
He was born May 2, 1916, in Fort Recovery, to Vernon "Mox" and Anna (Sunderhaus) Sacher. On April 19, 1941, he married LaDonna Hessian, who survives.
Other survivors are three sons and their wives, John and Marie, William and Arline, and Mike and Cathy, all of Celina; three daughters and their husbands, Jane and Ed Londt, Fort Wayne, Ind., Betsy and Joe Dahlinghaus, Minster, and Ann and Rusty Vorhees, Celina, and a daughter, Sue Weadock, St. Marys; a brother, Jerry of Palm City, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased are an infant son, a son-in-law, Clark Weadock, two brothers, Thomas and Donald, and a sister, Rita Thoma.
He was retired as a rural carrier of the Celina Post Office and as owner and operator of Celina Monument Company, and was secretary and historian of St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Celina. He coached basketball at Immaculate Conception High School, was a basketball referee, and was retired from calling bingo at the Knights of Columbus, where he was a member. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge, both of Celina. He was a 1934 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Richard Riedel officiating. Burial is at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina.
Contributions can be made to the church's education endowment fund or Mercer County on Aging.

Dorothy Greenup
Dorothy Opal Greenup, 89, of Lima, died at 8:20 a.m. Sept. 3 at Plus Health Care Center.
She was born May 27, 1911, in Jackson, Mo., to Joseph and Venita (Joerns) Headricks. On July 3, 1938, she married Kirby E. Greenup, who died Aug. 2.
Survivors are a son and his wife, John K. and Kathy of Hemlock, Mich., and son, James W. of Celina; two daughters and their husbands, Jill A. and Ronald Cox, and Jane C. and Donald Pauff, all of Lima; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a sister, Eula Beasley.
She was a homemaker and seamstress, and was retired from Gregg's Department Store, Lima. She served as an election poll worker and volunteered at the Corner Cupboard at the YWCA.
Memorial services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckereide Funeral Home, Lima, the Rev. Wanda Werking officiating.
Calling is 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Albert Otte
Albert Joseph Otte, 74, 7115 Darke-Mercer County Line Road, Maria Stein, died at 8:55 a.m. Sept. 7 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Minster.
He was born Nov. 10, 1925, in Maria Stein, to August and Veronica (Langenkamp) Otte. On Oct. 23, 1948, he married Lenore Barhorst, who survives.
Other survivors are three daughters and their husbands, Judy and Tedd Short, Fort Loramie, Sylvia and Dave Lehman, Celina, and Annette and Tom Kremer, Maria Stein, and a daughter, Janet Campbell, Tipp City; two sons and their wives, Jim and Carol of Tipp City, and Jerry and Peg of Maria Stein; three sisters, Irene Reinhart and Dorothy Gaerke, both of Fort Recovery, and Alvina Kunk, Celina; two brothers, Louis and Leonard, both of Maria Stein; and 15 grandchildren.
Deceased are five sisters, a brother and a son-in-law.
He was a retired farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a Private First Class in Europe and Asia. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society, North Star, Knights of St. John, Maria Stein, and American Legion Post 174, North Star.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Nicholas Church, Osgood, the Rev. James Schmitmeyer officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Louis Church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at Gehret Funeral Home, Fort Loramie.
Contributions can be made to the donor's choice.

R. Neal Selby
R. Neal Selby, 62, 2011/2 E. Spring St., St. Marys, died of natural causes at 7:45 a.m. Sept. 7 at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Sept. 22, 1937, in St. Marys, to Robert L. and Evelyn S. (Vogel) Selby.
Survivors include a sister and her husband, Janice E. and Ronald Rohrbach, St. Marys.
He was retired from maintenance in cafeteria work, and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, St. Marys.
Services are 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Joachim K. Wilck officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society.

Richard Stoepfel
Former Celina resident Richard E. Stoepfel, 73, 535 Blaine St., Van Wert, died at 5:56 a.m. Sept. 8 at his residence.
He was born March 1, 1927, in Putnam County to Lucas and Amelia (Siebeneck) Stoepfel. On April 19, 1992, he married Virginia Scarberry, who survives.
Other survivors are two daughters and their sons, Carol and Tom Fleck, Celina, and Patty and James Gibson, Van Wert; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Carol and Danny Gibson, Decatur, Ind., and Tammy and Lewie Chandler, Lima; a stepdaughter, Linda Bryant, Lima; a brother and his wife, Cletus and Clela, of Van Wert; three sisters, Rita Knoll and Maggie Butler, both of Leipsic, and Betty Weichart, Delphos; and four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter Joy Lynn; a sister, Loretta; and five brothers, Lawrence, Thomas, Victor, Felix and Raymond.
He worked at Teleflex in Van Wert and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Van Wert, the Celina Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5713 and Grand Lake Beagle Club.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, the Rev. Richard R. Riedel officiating. Burial will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. today and 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at W. H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina.

Robert Arthur
Robert J. Arthur, 73, of Spencerville, died at noon Sept. 8 at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Lima to Thomas O. and Edna Lucille (Golliff) Arthur. On Feb. 18, 1950, he married Carol Mae Metzger, who died Dec. 21, 1980.
Survivors are a daughter and her husband, Pamela and David Smith, Spencerville; a son and his wife, Randall "Randy" and Donna Jo, of Wapakoneta; a sister, Melva Moorman, Spencerville; two brothers and their wives, Thomas E. and Joy, of Olde Town, Fla., and John "Jack" and Chris, of Lima and six grandchildren.
Deceased is a sister, Shirley Miller; a half sister, Dorothy Sprunk; and a half brother, Wilbur.
He was former owner of Arthur's Dry Cleaners in Spencerville, a bus driver for Spencerville Local Schools and retired from working as a stationary engineer for St. Marys City Light and Power. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a life member of Bowersock Bros. Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 6772 and Harry J. Reynolds American Legion Post 191, both of Spencerville. He was a member of Spencerville United Church of Christ and the Coast Guard Chapel in Cheyboygan, Mich. He was a member of Northwest Ohio Field and Stream Association and was a 1945 graduate of Spencerville High School.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. Ronald L. Shifley officiating. Burial will follow at Spencerville Cemetery where grave side military rites will be conducted by the VFW and legion post.
Calling is 6-9 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the church's college fund or WWII Memorial Fund.

Elizabeth Hausfeld
Elizabeth Hausfeld, 76, 403 S. Market St., Coldwater, died at 7:25 p.m. Sept. 8 at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Blackpool, England, to Charles and Margaret Gillam. On June 3, 1944, she married Paul Hausfeld, who survives in Coldwater.
Other survivors are two sons and their wives, Keith and Cheri, of Colorado Springs, Co., and Michael and Maureen, of Dublin; a daughter and her husband, June and Ray Opp, Union City; a sister, Margaret Bond, of Blackpool; and six grandchildren.
She was retired form Buckeye Overall in Coldwater, and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, and its St. Anns Rosary Alter Sodality. She was a member of St. Cecilia Knights of St. John, Resiratory Society of Mercer County and the Lake Front Racquet Club.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Monday and before 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

William Adkins
Coldwater native Dr. William Conrad Adkins, 63, died noon Thursday at his home in Middleburg, Va., of a heart attack.
He was born Jan. 25, 1937 in Coldwater to Dr. Charles Phillips Adkins and Seressa (Smith) Adkins, both deceased. On Sept. 15, 1962, he married Elizabeth Stedem of Columbus, who survives in Middleburg.
Other survivors are two sons and their wives, William Jr. and Sherry of Boulder, Colo., and Thomas Phillips and Michelle of Tampa, Fl.; a daughter and her husband Rebecca and David Strum of Warrington, Va., one brother, Charles Phillips Adkins of Canton and three grandchildren.
He was a urologist who retired from a long time practice in Erie, Pa., in 1999 and was a member of the American Medical Association, American Urology Association and a life member of the National Rifle Association. He completed his medical residency at the Mayo Clinic.
A private memorial service will be held 2 p.m. today at Emanuel Episcopal Church in Middleburg, Va. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Patricia Binkley
Patricia A. Binkley, 46, died at 7:35 p.m. Sept. 10 of natural causes at her residence at 8050 Celina-Mendon Road, Celina.
She was born July 20, 1954, in Celina, to William and Mary (Washburn) Houser, both whom survive in Mendon. On Sept. 19, 1981, she married Paul Binkley, who survives.
Other survivors are a daughter, Karla A. of Celina; a stepson, Brian of Spencerville; two brothers and their wives, Robert and Donna Houser, Rockford, and Steve and Sandy Houser, Mendon.
She was retired from the former Huffy Bicycle Corp., Celina.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Randy Christian officiating. Burial is at Mendon Cemetery.
Calling is 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to Celina Area Visiting Nurses.
