Max Howard Sr.
Former Mendon resident Max Edward Howard Sr., 62, 322 George St., Convoy, died Sept. 13, 2000 at Community Hospital, Coldwater, following a short illness.
He was born March 23, 1938, in Elliot County, Ky., to Fred and Bertha (Barker) Howard. On June 18, 1970, he married Connie Chaney, who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Max Elwood "Woody" and Susie of Pontiac, Mich., and a son, Max Edward "Eddie" Jr. of Mendon; two stepsons and their wives, Steve and Renee Studer, St. Marys, and Dennis and Annette Studer, Ocala, Fla., and three stepsons, Richard Studer, Lima, Ronald Studer, Celina, and James Studer of Florida; a stepdaughter and her husband, Lori and Tony Reise, Celina; two sisters and their husbands, Freda and Duran Ball, Centerburg, and Betty and Roy Hall, Ridge Hill., and a sister, Laura Bell Ackison of Kentucky; a brother, Witten of Kentucky; and a number of grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Deceased are his parents, a son, Ricky Lee, a brother, Fred, and a sister, Mousie Jenkins.
He was a retired carpenter and was formerly employed at Motor Inn in Mercer. He served in the U.S. Army.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. M. Stephen Merold officiating. Burial is at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Joan Sell
Former Celina resident Joan Marie Sell, 77, of Holiday, Fla., died Sept. 12, 2000 at 6230 Lafayette St., New Port Richey, Fla.
She was born Feb. 20, 1923, in Detroit, Mich., to Stephen and Ottilia (LeVar) Jacob. She was married to Donald F. Sell, who survives.
Other survivors are two sons, Donald M. of LaCanada, Calif., and Daniel J. of Medway; two daughters, Mary Lee Hawk, Newark, Del., and Nancy A. of Milwaukee, Wisc.; and five grandchildren.
She was a homemaker, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the WAVES. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Holiday, Fla.
A memorial Mass will be held at the church at 10 a.m. Saturday. Her body was cremated.
Thomas B. Dobies Funeral Home, Holiday, Fla., handled the arrangements.
Jerry Bomholt
Former Coldwater resident Jerry "Bud" Bomholt, 79, of Elwood, Ind., died Sept. 5, 2000 at St. Vincent Hospital in Elwood, Ind.
He was born June 10, 1921, in St. Rose, to Matthias and Elizabeth Bomholt. On Dec. 12, 1959, he was married to Clara Pedenbaugh, who survives.
Other survivors are two sons and their wives, Richard and Kathy of Gas City, Ind., and Jerry Francis and DeeDee of Hanover, Ind., and a son, Michael of Elwood, Ind.; a daughter and her husband, Mary Ann and Robert Bar, Elwood, Ind.; two sisters, Lucelle Belna and Odelia Smelser, both of Coldwater and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Pat Howey, two brothers, Edmund and Victor, and three sisters, Rose Rosegarden, Olive Eder, and Lorena Rosenbeck, and a grandson.
He was a veteran of World War II.
A Funeral Mass was held Sept. 8 at St. Joseph Church in Elwood, and burial followed with military rites was at the church cemetery.
Lou Anne Vondrell
Lou Anne Vondrell, 47, 8659 Ohio 703, Celina, died of natural causes at 3:40 a.m. Sept. 15, 2000 in her residence.
She was born Feb. 18, 1953 in Springfield to Roger and Donna (Burkholder) Taynor, who survive in New Carlisle. On Aug. 3 1979, she married William Vondrell, who survives at the family residence.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Shawn and Jennifer of St. Marys; a son, Jeff, Celina; a daughter, Lisa, Celina; a father-in-law, Maninus, Coldwater; two sisters and their husbands, Tina and Bob Ambrosek of Hagler Neb., Karen and Mickey Lutz of Bingelman, Neb.; a brother and his wife, Brent and Janice Taynor of Dayton; and four grandchildren.
She was a home economics teacher at Minster High School and was a member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. She graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1971 and Miami University in 1975.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, with Rev. James Wilson II officiating. Burial is at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Norman Levi Sr.
Norman L. Levi Sr., 70, 6006 Meyer Road, Celina, died at 2 a.m., Sept. 15, 2000, at his residence following a short illness.
He was born April 24, 1930 in Connersville Ind. to Ernest and Violet (Young) Levi. On Oct. 31, 1959, he married Shirley A. Fisher, who survives.
Survivors are three sons and their wives, Jim and Teresa of Connersville, Ind., Tim and Tina of Celina, Leon and Sharon Fisher of Milton Ind.; a son, Norman Levi Jr. of St. Marys, Ohio; a brother, Ernest Levi Jr. of Nelsonville; three brothers and their wives, Leo and Elnora and Eldon and Shirley, both of Celina, Lorne and Betty Levi of Connersville, Indiana; and six grandchildren.
Deceased is a brother, Ferrel; four sisters, Elma, Annabell, Doris and Naomi; and two daughters, Debbie and Angel Ann Levi.
He was a retired worker for the city of Centerville, Ind.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at W.H. Dick and Sons Funeral Home, Celina. Burial is at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.

Garni Bollenbacher
Former Geneva, Ind. resident Garni F. Bollenbacher, 79, died at 6:01 a.m. Sept. 16, 2000 at Chalet Village in Berne, Ind.
She was born Feb. 12, 1921, in Mercer County, to Charles A. and Nellie (McGough) Branstetter. On Feb. 12, 1938, she married Glenn L. Bollenbacher, who survives in Liberty Center, Ind.
Other survivors are a son, Wayne, of Celina; a daughter and her husband, Karen Sue and Steve Minnich, Decatur, Ind.; three brothers, Richard Branstetter, Geneva, Charles A. Branstetter, of Florida, and Lester Branstetter, Decatur; four sisters and their husbands, Freda and Victor Bryie, Fort Wayne, Ind., Creva and Vernon Bollenbacher, Deloris "Fat" and Eugene Caffee, and Betty and Donald Haviland, all of Geneva; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers and four sisters.
She was a homemaker.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Downing Funeral Home, Geneva, Ind., the Rev. Phillip W. Lutz officiating. Burial is at Kessler Cemetery in Mercer County.

William Case
William M. Case, 76, 05151 County Road 33A, St. Marys, died Sept. 17, 2000 at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born April 8, 1923, in St. Marys, to William and Agnes (Fannon) Case. On Aug. 22, 1953, he married Theresa Dietz, who survives in St. Marys.
Other survivors are three daughters and their husbands, Linda and Randy Hoying, St. Henry, Diane and John Moore, Cincinnati, and Susan and Donald Gossman, Corydan, Ind.; a son and his wife, William and Vera, of St. Marys; and four grandchildren.
Deceased is a daughter, Carol.
He was retired from Parker Hannifin Co., St. Marys, and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Battery D of the 197th Anti-Aircraft Division. He stormed Normandy Beach on the D-Day Invasion of France. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 323 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge Aerie 767, all of St. Marys, and the National Rifle Association. He was a 1941 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David Heinl officiating. Burial with military graveside rites is at Gethsemane Cemetery in St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, with a memorial service at 7 p.m. conducted by the American Legion, and a prayer service at 8 p.m.

Betty Harter
Betty M. Harter, 76, died at 2:40 a.m. Sept. 17, 2000 at her residence at 186 Lowry Road, Fort Recovery.
She was born Dec. 30, 1923, in Lorain, to Russell L. and Hazel M. (Young) Pyle. On June 28, 1959, she married Donald Harter, who survives.
Other survivors include two sisters, Ruth Grile and Bonnie Pyle, both of Fort Recovery.
Deceased is a sister, J. Mae Norberg.
She was retired from Sheller Globe in Portland, Ind., and was a member of Church of the Nazarene, Fort Recovery. She was a 1943 graduate of Fort Recovery High School.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Revs. John Perkins, Verl Ballmer and Greg Mason officiating. Burial is at Springhill Cemetery, Fort Recovery.

Walter Budde
Walter H. Budde, 64, 2023 Rolfes Road, Maria Stein, died following a six-month illness at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 18, 2000 at the James Cancer Center in Columbus.
He was born April 8, 1936, in Maria Stein, to William and Rose (Kaiser) Budde. On Nov. 3, 1962, he married Suzanne L. Subler, who survives.
Other survivors are three sons and their wives, William and Tina of Beavercreek, David and Kelley, and Michael and Shannon, all of Maria Stein; three sisters and their husbands, Jeanette and Ernie Philpot, New Bremen, Cecelia and Gary Spoltman, Vandalia, and Barbara and Jack Fetters, Arlington, Texas; two brothers and their wives, Paul and Sarah of Bowling Green, Ky., and Robert and Maryanne of Maria Stein; and two grandchildren.
He was owner and operator of Budde Construction, Maria Stein, and was a veteran of Ohio National Guard. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Knights of St. John, and American Legion, all of Maria Stein. He was a 1954 graduate of Marion Local School.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Emil Labbe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
