Ruth Bender
Ruth M. Bender, 69, 208 W. Seventh St., Minster, died at 7:45 p.m. Sept. 28, 2000 at the Hospice of Cincinnati.
She was born Aug. 1, 1931, in Maria Stein, to Lawrence J. and Anna (Henke) Mescher. On Sept. 13, 1952, she married Lawrence E. Bender, who died Feb., 4, 1999.
Survivors are a daughter and her husband, Linda and William Brueggeman, Fairfield, a daughter, Teresa O'Quinn, Cincinnati; four sisters and their husbands, Dorothy and Walter Imwalle, Velma and Robert Mescher and Delores and Roger Schwieterman, all Maria Stein, and Mary Ann and Anthony Quinter, Sidney, a sister, Irene Garmann, Minster, and two grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 1391, Minster, and Minster Right to Life.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. William Hoyng officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-7 p.m. Sunday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater and 9-10:30 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster.

John Reeder Jr.
John F. Reeder Jr., 47, died Sept. 27, 2000 at his residence in Auburn, Ind. of natural causes.
He was born Nov. 27, 1952 in Bucyrus to John F. Sr. and Vivian (Staver) Reeder. His father and a step-mother, Joan Reeder, survive in Wapakoneta.
Other survivors are a step-brother and his wife, Michael and Wendy Tumey, Celina; four sisters and their husbands, Deb and Jack Miller, Harrod; Susan and Dennis Piehl and Diana and Chris Weihrauch, Lima, and Jennifer and Gary Kramer, Lafayette, Ohio; a step-sister, Brenda Frank, Celina, a step-sister and her husband, Julie and Mike Hess, Celina, and grandmother, Philomenia Staver of Bowling Green.
He was a truck driver for Poor Jack Amusements, Auburn, Ind.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Monday at Ward Cemetery, Lima, the Rev. Thomas Casey officiating.
There will be family calling only.

John Corle
John T. Corle, 91, 171 Grand Street, Dunkirk, Ind., died Sept. 28, 2000 at Portland Community Care Center East, Portland, Ind.
He was born Nov. 3, 1908 in Jay County to Thomas and Anna (Wiggs) Corle. He was married to Nina McFarland, who died in 1959. He then married Ila (Hunt) Sorenson, who died in 1989.
Survivors are a son, Jack, Celina; a brother, Hascal, Portland; a sister and her husband, Deta and James Gillespie, Portland; a sister Mildred Kesler, Warsaw, Ind.; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a daughter, Annabelle Lyons.
He was retired from Jay Garment Co., Portland and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Portland.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Portland, the Rev. Mark Strietelmeier officiating. Burial is at Boundary Cemetery in Boundary, Ind.
Calling is 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Marvel Ramsey
Marvel Ramsey, 87, Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys, died Sept. 29, 2000 at the nursing home where she had been a resident for 17 years.
She was born Sept. 27, 1913, in St. Marys, to Cornelius and Molly (Hawk) McMullen.
Survivors are two sons and their wives, Ronnie and Rachel, Bellefontaine, and John and Cindy, St. Marys; a sister, Lois Schaefer, Sidney; a brother, Wilbur McMullen, St. Marys; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a brother, Cornelius McMullen.
She was a retired housekeeper and had previously worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys. She was a member of Gospel Mission Bible Methodist Church, St. Marys.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. James Alley officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

William Barnett
William L. Barnett, 78, 850 Dorothy Lane, St. Marys, died at 3:15 a.m. Sept. 1, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born May 28, 1924, in Lima, to William and Dallas (Rickels) Barnett. On Aug. 18, 1945, he married Rita Hirsch and she died Nov. 3, 1994. On March 16, 1998, he married Sarah Baldwin and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters and their husbands, Susan and Richard Hecht, Dora, Ala., Janet and Paul Dicke and Peg and Ernest Schweitzer, all of St. Marys; four stepchildren, a sister and her husband, Grace and Richard Bay, Barstow, Calif., and a sister, Margaret Shaffer, Lima; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, 14 stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased are an infant brother, Robert, and three grandchildren.
A 1924 graduate of Lima South High School, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired from Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 166, Fort Wayne, Ind. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289, American Legion Post 323 and the City of St. Marys Planning Commission, all of St. Marys, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Wapakoneta.
Private services are 1 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Dale Leinbach officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.

Patricia Grote
Patricia Elaine Grote, 77, 1001 Harbor Point Drive, former Mercer County Recorder, died at 1:05 a.m. Sept. 1, 2002, at her residence.
She was born March 4, 1925, in Gettysburg, to Roland and Lela (Houdeshell) Rench. On Dec. 12, 1946, she married William H. Grote and he died Dec. 24, 1971.
Surviving are a son and his wife, William M. and Marie of Covington, La.; a brother and his wife, Gene and Joanne Rench, Arcanum, and a brother, Harvey Rench, Knoxville, Tenn.; three sisters-in-law, Madonna Rench, Phoenix, Ariz., Patty Rench, Englewood, and Barbara Rench, West Milton; and three grandchildren.
Three brothers, Jack, Glenn and Joe Rench, are deceased.
A 1943 graduate of Arcanum High School, she is also a graduate of Dayton Beauty Academy. She was a member of Phi Beta Psi Sorority, Iota Gamma Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Cancer Society and St. John Lutheran Church, all of Celina. She was a lifetime member of the Mercer County Democratic Party.
Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Douglas Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens. A sorority service will precede the funeral at 12:45 p.m.
Calling is after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Betty Hierholzer
Betty A. Hierholzer, 55, 6848 Ohio 705, New Weston, died at 8 p.m. Aug. 30, 2002, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born May 13, 1947, in Piqua, to Paul and Julitta (Broerman) Henry. On April. 30, 1966, she married Valbert Kelch and he died Feb. 12, 1974. On Aug. 5, 1976, she married Julius Hierholzer and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons and their wives, Lance and Paula Kelch, North Star, and Chad and Sara Kelch, Maria Stein, and a son, Robert Kelch, North Star; two daughters and their husbands, Audrey and Dan Subler, Maria Stein, and Valerie and Tony Heitkamp, Fort Recovery, and a daughter, Trisha Hierholzer, Burkettsville; and 17 grandchildren.
Other survivors include two brothers and their wives, Tom and Sharon Henry and Don and Zita Henry, all of Versailles; four sisters and their husbands, Norma and Rich Nerderman, New Bremen, Ruth and Dan Wenning, Minster, Cathy and John Shue, North Star, and Sharon and Duane Goubeaux, Greenville, and three sisters, Jan Russell, Troy, Sue Henry, Lima, and Judy Henry, Frenchtown; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Matt and Dee Schwieterman, Coldwater, and Paul and Shirley Kelch, Osgood; six sisters-in-law and their husbands, Joan and Mark Kunk, Versailles, Jody and Dan Lange, St. Henry, June and Dale Leistenschneider, Burkettsville, Anna Mae and Don Bohman and Charlene and Charles Steinemann, all of Minster, and Marilyn and Gil Heitkamp, Tipp City; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter and Rosella (Kaiser) Hierholzer, Burkettsville.
Deceased are her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Helen (Armstrong) Kelch; a brother-in-law, Jeff Hierholzer; and two sisters-in-law, Joyce Schwieterman and Waveline Kelch.
She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper at Hierholzer Garage in Burkettsville. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Ann's Sodality and the American Legion Auxiliary, all of North Star, and a volunteer at Veterans Administration Hospital, Dayton.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-9 p.m. today at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater, and 9-10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Jimmie Patton
Jimmie R. Patton, 64, 2492 Ohio 29, Celina, died at 11:10 p.m. Aug. 30, 2002, at Community Hospital, Coldwater, following an extended illness.
He was born June 21, 1938, in Richmond, Va., to Jesse and Rose B. (Morris) Patton. On March 19, 1980, he married DeMera Jean Steele and she survives.
Also surviving are two stepdaughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Dennis Parsons, Fort Recovery, and Suellen and Mike Denney, Rochester, Ind.; a brother, Harold Patton, Richmond, Va.; a foster brother, Arthur Waters, also of Richmond; seven stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
He retired from Phillip Morris in Richmond and served eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Graveside services with full military honors were to be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina, the Rev. Tamara Wood officiating.

Kaden Rhoads
Kaden William Rhoads, infant son of Susan Coutee and Shawn Rhoads, 632 Cron St., Celina, was stillborn at 9:30 p.m. Sept. 1, 2002, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
Surviving with the parents are a sister, Makaela Coutee; maternal grandparents, Linda Ballinger, Celina, and Rick Hans, Findlay; paternal grandparents, Bill and Sandy Gilbert, Celina; and the maternal great-grandparents, Bill and Grace Ballinger, Celina, and Mary Hans, St. Marys.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Thursday at North Grove Cemetery, the Rev. Stephen Merold officiating.
Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, has charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.
Rex Sheets
Rex Sheets, 64, 310 Southway Drive, St. Marys, died at 5 p.m. Sept. 2, 2002, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, following an extended illness.
He was born March 7, 1938, in Mendon, to Glenn and Evelyn (Rexroth) Sheets. On Nov. 15, 1965, he married Marilyn Davis and she survives.
Also surviving are a stepdaughter and her husband, Patricia and Jim Fast, St. Marys; a sister and her husband, Shirley and Michael Hoelscher, Celina; and a stepgrandson.
A brother, Gary Sheets, is deceased.
A 1957 graduate of Mendon High School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 767, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289 and American Legion Post 323, all of St. Marys, and the Loyal Order of Moose, Celina.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Troy Green officiating. Burial will follow at Neptune Cemetery.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
