Steve Vertin
Steve R. Vertin Sr., 60, 416 S. Beech St., St. Marys, died at 10:55 p.m. Jan. 25, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, following an extended illness.
He was born July 5, 1941, in Virginia, Minn., to Rupert and Helen (Shopp) Vertin.
Surviving are three sons, Sean of Milledgeville, Ga., Jesse of Atlanta, Ga., and Steve Jr. of Stafford, Va.; four daughters, Lori, Susan Petrovich, Sheli Bope and Vicki Tanaguchi, all of Pataskala, and Bobi Ely, Ashley; and 11 grandchildren.
He was employed by Sanese Services, where he served as service account manager at Crown Equipment Co., New Bremen. He was a 1959 graduate of Virginia High School in Minnesota and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 767, both of St. Marys.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. James Byrne officiating. A private family burial service is planned.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. today and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at Long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys.
Beverly Romer
Beverly S. Romer, 58, 503 E. Anthony St., Celina, died at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 26, 2002 at her residence.
She was born Sept. 15, 1943, in Celina, to Harold and Evon (Bilter) Rhyne. On July 15, 1963, she married George Romer and he survives.
Also surviving are a son, Jon of Newark; two daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Harold Farley, Wapakoneta, and Jennifer and Art Bruggeman, Xenia, and a daughter, Renee Mallory, Celina; two sisters and their husbands, Delores and William Roether, Frostproof, Fla., and Betty Jean and Boyd Arnold, Cridersville, and two sisters, Shirley and Barbara Rhyne, both of Celina; and six grandchildren.
She retired from Reynolds & Reynolds, Celina, and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Richard Riedel officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina.
Roland Wieman
Roland "Rolly" Wieman, 83, 719 Lake Ave., St. Marys, died at 4:58 a.m. Jan. 27, 2002 at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Feb. 2, 1918, in New Bremen, to Andrew and Ruby (Kriegel) Wieman. On Oct. 24, 1948, he married Mary Lininger and she died June 13, 1994.
Surviving are a son and his wife, James and Sandie of New Bremen; a brother and his wife, Jerry and Barb of Loveland, and a brother, Louie of St. Marys; and a grandson.
Deceased are two sisters, Verona Rieger and Virginia Steele.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Italy and Africa during World War II and earning two Purple Hearts. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., St. Marys, where he had worked as a press operator for 35 years. He worked at the former Huber Furniture Co. for many years and then ran the bait house at Rustic Haven Campground.
He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 767, St. Marys, were he was a Golden Eagle, and American Legion Post 241, New Bremen. He was of the Catholic faith.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. James Byrne officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mary Avery
Mary H. Avery, 84, of Rockford, died at 12:15 p.m. Jan. 28, 2002 at Briarwood Manor, Coldwater.
She was born Sept. 15, 1917, in Mercer County, to Samuel and Helen (Sabados) Provci. On June 2, 1940, she married Richard T. Avery and he died Feb. 3, 2000.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Bob and Sue of Kendalville, Ind., and Tom and Judy of Rockford; two daughters, Mary Sue McFarland, Indianapolis, Ind., and Jane of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a brother, John Provci, Rockford; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Deceased are three brothers, Mike, Nick and Joe Provci.
She was a homemaker and worked in the grocery store her husband had owned and operated in Rockford. She was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church and its women's organization, both of Rockford.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Brenberger officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford. A prayer service will be held there at 7:30 p.m.
Contributions can be made to Mercer County Hospice or to the church for Masses.
Madeline Bubp
Madeline M. Bubp, 98, 602 Columbia St., St. Marys, died at 12:10 p.m. Jan. 28, 2002 at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys.
She was born Nov. 26, 1903, in Elizabeth, N.J., to John and Nora (Mulkern) Widner. On Sept. 13, 1921, she married Henry Bubp and he died July 3, 1982.
Surviving are a daughter, Madeline Hunter, St. Marys; two daughters-in-law, Eileen and Betty Bubp, also of St. Marys; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sons, Henry and Geary; a brother, John Widner; and a sister, Mary Widner.
She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Altar Society of the church, the Holy Rosary Hospital Guild and the Hobby Club, all of St. Marys. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 323.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. James Byrne officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the Mass Friday at Long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys.
Gerald Irvin
Gerald Dean "Jerry" Irvin, 80, 1700 Mears Ave., Cincinnati, died at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 15, 2002 at his residence.
He was born Nov. 10, 1921, in Walton, Ind., to William and Bessie (Walter) Irvin. On May 1, 1948, he married Norma Lee Pax of Celina and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Ronald and Loiann of Oxford; three daughters and their husbands, Becky and Jerry McCanna, Indianapolis, Ind., Sheri and Mark Vorholt and Pam and Ross Pupillo, all of Cincinnati, and a daughter, Terry, also of Cincinnati; and a sister and her husband, Mary Lois and Ralph Holman, Liberty, Ind.
Deceased is a brother.
He was a retired Beldon Co. machinist and a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member and past president of the Knights of St. John and a member of the American Legion and Young Men's Institute, all of Cincinnati.
Funeral Mass was Jan. 18 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Richmond, Ind., the Rev. Todd Reibe officiated. Burial with military honors was at Earthen Cemetery Mausoleum, Richmond.

Helen Mousa
Former New Bremen resident Helen L. Mousa, 80, of Fort Myers, Fla., died Jan. 24, 2002 at Manor Care Nursing Home, Decatur, Ga.
She was born June 27, 1921, in New Knoxville, to Harry and Frances (Vordermark) Rehn. In 1941, she married Virgil E. Mousa who died Nov. 20, 1998.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Bruce E. and Sara Ann of Worthington, and Barry L. and Donna of Blairsville, Ga.; a daughter and her husband, Barbara E. and Timothy Gebert, Tucker, Ga.; a brother, Lewis Rehn, Wapakoneta; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a brother, Willis Rehn.
She was a co-owner/office worker with her husband of Amstutz Hatcheries, New Bremen, worked in the office of Snelling and Snelling of Lima, and later served as the Northwest Ohio Director of the Golden Buckeye Card Program. She was a member of Faith Alliance Church, New Bremen, and North Shore Alliance Church, Fort Myers, and held many positions within the church.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Alliance Church, New Bremen, the Rev. Raymond Welch officiating. Burial is at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville.
Calling is at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
